Too early to say for us... I'll probably have to work at 8. :-\
I will be there, though I'm not sure if it'll be early enough for breakfast.
As usual, I shall be inside setting up the pub. I am quite sure I shall be seeing many of you shortly after cannon though.
Same here. I'll be setting up the booth for the first day of operations....that is, if we even have a booth this year. >:(
The owner is a cheap@$$ who doesn't know how to run a business. He got rid of his business manager because he thought he could do better himself. (i.e., he didn't like the fact that money was going back INTO the business to keep it running) Now we don't even have a tent to vend out of at this point. His solution? Get one of those $99 pop up shades from Walmart to use. Umm, yeah...fest doesn't allow those...idiot.
[/rant]
Back to page 12...
I'll be there but I don't know for sure what I will bring to the breakfest.
Ferret will be there with 2 or 3 of those Caribou coffee canteen thingys for breakfast.
Ferret
You KNOW I'll be there! If weather looks damp I'll bring the canopies again. However, if it's really raining, we'll have to pack them up before heading in. Last year one was damaged from pooling water. :(
For food... Not sure yet. Will have to decide as we get closer.
We will be there.
I will bring the plates, napkins, forks, spoons, etc.
Still waiting to hear from Chess Chick whether we have jobs or not. If anyone hears from her, please tell her to call me.
Thanks.
I'll be there too
I think I'll be missing...I'll be inside getting ready to dance or something like that!
I'll be sleeping after working all night...
speaking of which...
Please for the love of all that is holy don't bring alcohol in the parking lot!!! It was discussed last year and I'll discuss it again, safety services LOVES to look for anyone drinking in the lot. They don't particularly enjoy the food either but you clean up so they look past it, but the alcohol they won't. It is a morning ritual to sweep the lot for drinkers as well as station someone out there to watch for it.
Also, I know at least a few who do read what goes on here so maybe if you are going to, try not to incriminate yourselves.
-Just trying to make sure you have a good time and don't get kicked out before entering the grounds because I love you guys just that much.
Sincerely-
Random Girl in the Backyard.
I usually dont make opening as it is my hometowns train festival but since I hafta miss a weekend (sign lang sat :() I plan to make it to opening wearing a new gypsy outfit. will decide on what to bring as it gets closer!
I was gonna say maybe we should take the "alcohol" thing off of here, jsut for safety sake.

I'll be setting up the Fest Friends Glade, but I'll try to some out if I'm able to.
I hope everyone has lots of fun the first weekend. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I will be preparing to get on the river for a day long float trip. Ah, warm sun and cool water. How better to spend one's day? Hopefully the kids will all be in good moods.
I'll be there, not sure who will be with me or how many, but I am a positive.

Sounds like opening weekend is shaping up very well indeed. Remember folks, no boozamahol in the parking lot. Don't want to cause a ruckus on the first day. ;)

What?!? Do you mean to tell me that some people actually have "left over" cake? ??? I don't understand. :P
I will be there in a slightly different capacity this year... still working with mead, but NOT working for CKC (YAY!). I'll be around the booth most of the time 'working' for Jim, finally getting to be the chatty mead information wench (and line wrangler) I always tried to be. Stop by and drink a mead with me!
Stuck in CKC hell no more... I can finally PLAY at fest!! WOOHOO!

OOOO la la...The Mead girl *sighs* :D
leftover pie?? ...sneak it in...and feed it to me! :-) I'll take complete care of the leftover of that.
Lily, I will help you with that. Fat Kid Pie can be a breakfast food. This is coming from someone who used to eat chocolate cake for breakfast. (My Dad thought along the same lines as Bill Cosby)
Besides, we will walk it off, so it balances out.

Well Hello Lovely!! How are you? I will definately be by to drink a mead with you. I'm not working SS this year, so like you, I finallly get to play!!
Sean
We just got back in from Vegas and Seattle late last night. Seems the family has found out about us coming down and has sort of taken over our time. We won't be able to make it to breakfast opening day but will get there later in the morning (probably around noon). *sigh*
My work place is having their company picnic the same day as opening, and someone suggested it would be a good thing if I went. I told them in no uncertain terms, not only no, but HEEEELLLL NO. They should know me better than that by now.
As I found the hidden buy one get one free coupons in the Star Trib this morning, I do believe I have convinced the husband to come play this weekend, if so we'll be bringing crossants or some such, I just need to see what looks good.
So it'll be me, hubby and little one unless of course littlest one shows up early. So please put us down as good possibilities, and if something comes up i'll let someone know as I won't be able to.
Oh btw someones gonna hafta to show me where the site is that and when is the meeting time, I forgot, I know Goody pointed it out last year, but that was last year. I know i'm a ditz ;D.
Here's a picture of the meeting site for breakfast. Meet up time is when ever they open the gates and you can get there.

Well done fig. I think we are going to bring a 6 ft table that way we can spread everything out on it. We also have a water cooler that we will be bringing and I dont mind bringing it to the glade too if needed. Its one of those orange ones with the spout on the bottom like you used to get at mcdonalds. So Peggy let me know.
I'll be working that morning, but I'll try to sneak out before cannon.
At any rate, stop by and say hi!
*whisper*
just don't tell groomporter
Bribes of mead usually work well esch... 8)
Thanks Fig that should help, and if you guys see me with family wandering aimlessly yell at me will ya.
I love google earth. It just needs updating now to include the new 312 on it.
Ok, I'm new to RenFest (two years), but I want to try and get involved in the fest culture. (Is there such a thing??) At any rate, i was wondering if i could show up to breakfast, i just need to know what--if anything--you guys want me to bring. I'm sure i can atleast attempt--if not successfully manage just about anything. I also need to know when you guys are gonna get together.
if nothing else, i hope to see you all at the fest!!
Welcome aboard GoldenLass...
We love new comers! All our welcome to our breakfasts!
As for what to bring. It's basically a pot luck, bring whatever you like. Just post it and Sleepy will add it too the list.
If by chance you can't make breakfast, you can always find us at 10:00 am at the Mead booth. It's our morning meeting spot every day through out the run of 'fest!..
Look forward to seeing you this year!
Depending on what time it is, there is the potential I could possibly sneak out to say hello. Not sure if I'll make it to eat though.
We love welcoming new people GoldenLass, even if all you can bring is your own good cheer. That's plenty good enough for us.
So far I'm planning on being there Friday night also so I should be able to run out reall quick and hang out a bit. Don't know if I'll have anything foodwise. Hope to see you all there though!
Willum! So good to see you! I hope all is well on your end of the map.
GoldenLass, breakfast is a terrific place to meet some of the MN folk and get involved with the ren fest group. I can't attest to having any particular culture ;) but we're a fun, welcoming bunch who love meeting new people.
Where to find us...
Waiting at the gates for the parking lot to open up
Once into the parking lot, go on the road straight towards the ticket booths (privy's will be on your right), turn left, notice the big oak tree in the middle of the parking lot, there's us! Sometimes we're organized, sometimes we're wandering about with a skirt in hand trying to relace it. Oh wait, that was just me. ::) There is usually an R/F banner somewhere close by, otherwise look for a large group probably tieing each other up.
10:00 at the main mead booth. NOT the table mead booth behind Bad Manor
Anytime during the day at Mac's Pub for The Dregs.
This Fair is to far for me to go, But I sure hope all of you have a wounderl time, put pic up if you have them so those of us can see and fell like we were there with you, Have fun you guys ;D

Hi Golden Lass,
I joined the R/F forum last year in July. I had never met anyone in person before that. I showed up at the breakfast (not in garb) and everyone was great. This is a great group of people and as you can see from the other responses you will be welcomed here.
I would say yes there is a fest culture. ;D

I love trains! More 'splaning please!
We are essentially a ghost town of what life was like 75 yrs ago in this area but we celebrate it anyway. For those that have seen "my shack along the track" (it was first house built across the tracks 100 yrs ago) imagine a YMCA on the end of my block and a hospital on the end of the next. we usda be boomin!!!
OK back on track... (yeah a train pun! we are the rails mighty mighty rails!) I am not on the list of attendees :(. Maybe I will bring peanut butter cookies, packed individually, to be slipped into a pouch for later partaking?
Rune and I will be there. And it not Faire Breakfast without scones!
*yawn* *blink, blink. looks at calendar*
Yipes! I guess I hit snooze on my fest alarm too many times.
Yep. Me'll be there.
Yep. Me'll bring food. Not sure what. (what do you want from me? I just woke up!)
If I can rangle a Ginger of the Dreaded variety, I'll bring her too.
That is, if we dont hit the snooze too many times.
Cant wait to see ya mates!
*off in a hurry to get 'stumes ready*
So its looking like at least 36 people so far for breakfast? Holy moley that's alot, then again this is my first year at opening weekend breakfast so i'm surprised. Should be a fun time, i'm so looking forward to this, and seeing new and old friends alike.
I'm guessing this is a record! Our crowd in the parking lot will be bigger than the one at front gate at this rate... ;D
Me the Great, darlin'! Tis lovely to see yuh, dear. Been wonderin' what happen' to yuh over the summer.
Hugs and all that sort!
MG
*I name dropped you on another post... let me see if I can find it...*
From the "Brush with Greatness" thread in Mundane section
Come to think of it... at MNRF we brush with greatness almost every festival weekend. Her name?
Me the Great!
Our breakfast meet ups in the morning are becoming the thing of legends I think. At the rate we keep growing each year, we may very well over take opening gate ceremony in size in no time. I can't think of a better way to start the day though.
We are just....AWESOME!!!!!!!
Think of it we could raid the village...pillage...rape....steal the Queen....muhahahahahahaha!!!!
Ok stop Sleepy!!! Sorry watching too many movies.
Can you imagine though a group of 40 people coming to the gate all dressed up in our garb wanting in, we could start a riot out front hehehe, but wait we are NOT drinking until the mead booth.
Well, it won't matter to me whether you guys wait till the mead booth or not.... i just wish that the drinking age of the renaissance festival was what it really was in those days!! teehee!!

Good question... I certainly hope not! Of course, you all know that the best place to get mead is at the original mead booth (if I can train the newbies in proper mead pouring, that is). Let's all hope they're open to learning how to pour with a super steady hand and not afraid to spill a little in the process!
Do not forget to teach them how to make a Kamikaze too.... ;D

I think channel 9 has been the one out on site in recent years, I think they did a spot on their weekday morning show last year. Check if you can recognize any reporters on Thursday night.
If we become as truly awesome as we are, they may just come over on their own volition to see what all the fun is about. Free publicity for renfest.com???
So I have posted in this thread twice and haven't even commented on the actual subject of the thread. If at all possible I will try to make it out the front gate and over to breakfast to say "Hello". I have no clue how much time I will have if any.
Sean
I won't be making breakfast either. So, someone else will have to supply the napkins, plates, etc, unless I can leave them with someone to bring tomorrow night at the party? Anyone? They are purchased and ready to be used.
I can take your stuff with me, Kate, if needed. Sorry you won't make breakfast!!!
See you tonight
Thanks for taking the stuff MG. And I don't want any extras back.
Bummer Kate, we'll be sure to hunt you down when we get in there though.
Mead Cocktail Idea:
1 oz Citrus Rum (or some flavored rum)
1 oz Amaretto
1 oz Dark Spiced Rum
Orange Juice
Pineapple Juice
Raspberry Mead (or other fruity mead)
I have no mead left in my stores, so I'll have to give this a try next weekend... of course, I'll have to find Spiced Rum... hmmm...
Anyone around after hours that wants to help taste a couple concoctions?

Yay, opening is almost here! I think I need to change what I'm bringing though. I'll have worked 13 nights in a row by Friday morning (including some 12 hour shifts), and have to go to grandmas on Friday down near Owatonna (it's the last year she's doing a garden and my only shot at obtaining some of her awesome Strawberry plants!). Needless to say I'm going to be tired and unmotivated for doing something as complicated as purchasing and cutting up fruit.
So I'm back to my old standard...Bee-Hive Coffeecake. Unless of course anybody is super unhappy about the change in which case I'll see what I can do.
See you all at the gates in about 5 days and 2 hours waahooo!!! :D
Wow the summer is going fast. Won't be able to make opening weekend but wish we could. The breakfast sounds like it will have a great turnout. Will try for weekend 2.
I don't know about the rest of you but I am already finding it hard to concentrate on work when fest is this close. I start at 7:00 and its 7:10. Its going to be a long week.
Sleepy update us to bring apple crisp..... ;D

Ahh sleepy pirate... I don't have that picture with me...*pouts* LD will post it later *evil grin*
We won a bag of glass for that public snogging.
Hmmm.... your not bringing the iron with are you?
If you promise to behave I will leave the iron in my car.... But once I start drinking I make no promises.
but..but..but...behave? Wait. Whats that mean?
I better look that up. *looks for B in the dictionary....A...nope. R...nope... Ah B...20 minutes later and a look of disbelief: "Oh, thats what it means. Now thats just no fun at all."*
*Thinking to himself: Should I try to do this behave thing or just take the blow to the head again...hmmmm.... tough choice. Maybe with enough rum the blow to the head won't hurt so bad...Wait! I've got it "its margarita time", "now who's the one who's not going to behaving?"*
I'm not ADD, I'm.....oh look a shiny...*trails off mumbling something about bodices and a getting locked in the trunk by Erynn again*
:o
<--- would you look at how many posts I make? I need good outside and breath fresh air or something....Wait fest is right around the corner!
My definition of "behave" might not be in the dictionary. I'll have to check it out.
Now, just be good otherwise you won't only get the iron (hmm.. should I bring my converter so I can plug it in in my car?) but I'll get Master up here!
*runs off giggling and looking for her halo...*

Teehee Loli-Neko....
The dark side also has Doritos and Guitar Hero! ^___^
It behaves itself or it gets the hose. Again. ;D
And rum, lets not forget the rum!
Speaking of rum...
I have a mostly full bottle of Capn Morgan's Tattoo I need to get rid of. Sam and I won't drink it. Its been open for a while so I don't even know if its still good, but if anyone wants it, they're free to take it. So long as I remember to bring it.
**I don't want anyone to get into trouble with SS about having the alcohol, so I'm not intending this to get drunk by anyone on grounds. I just figure it would be better to get it to someone who wants it then down a drain. If you want to meet off grounds to get it, I'll be up there Friday through Sunday, so we can work something out.**
Now back to your regularly scheduled silliness...
Hey Erynn,
I take it that you are a participant.? If no one else will take it, I have been wanting to try it. Are you staying in the campground?
Sean
I'm a playtron, and I'll be staying with Rage and LD. Will you be going to Fig's on Saturday?
That may be a possibility. I'll see if I can convince my girl and some of the rest of our group to go.
Oh, I'll try us use my little digital recorder to get the sound of the Morris Dancers "blessing the site" after hours on Saturday night. Since it's a full moon and first week end they should be doing it this week. Just after dusk they do a procession around the entire site, in single file, each one holding a rack of deer antlers, usually marching to a haunting little tune on a fiddle.
Hey that would be cool.

It's an after hours thing that starts about dusk. It often happens twice a year usually first Saturday night, and I think the second time is the something like the Saturday closest to the full moon in September, or closest to equinox, but it depends on the Morris Dancers' schedule some years they are only out there as a group every other weekend.
We have a communal dinner with our shop help and they usually pass right in front of our booth.
Congrats on the wonderful news gracefulcarrie, we'll be glad to meet him. If he wasn't a rennie before, he sure will be one soon.
No no no Sleepy... Synn and Toar are bringing the most delicious Fat Kid Pie! Bacardi and I will be bringing Apple Crisp.. Whoo Hooooo!!! ;D

Hey now, be careful with the beau-hunk statements... Theres more of us... I mean them around then you think.... ;D
Ya know, I was quoting Sixteen Candles (or misquoting, or butchering) and until you responded, I didn't actually know what it was (other than an Laurel and Hardy movie).
what, one may ask is a Beau Hunk?
Bohunk (mild ethnic slur)
(North America) a person of east-central European descent. Originally referred to those of Bohemian (now Czech Republic) descent. Was commonly used toward Ukrainian immigrants during the early 20th century
(http://escherblacksmith.googlepages.com/the_more_you_know_small.JPG)

One thing I have learned is that you have to be careful when you use the term Bohunk. I mainly talk about my Danish and Norwegian heritage. I am 1/2 Dane and 1/4 Norwegian. My other 1/4 is Czech. My grandmother is 100% Czech. The Czech side of my family never minded the term Bohunk (So I never have either). However, I have many friends (who I met in college....long story) from the Montgomery and New Prague area who are of Czech descent also and some of them will get really po'd if you call them a Bohunk.
I use to go Kolackhy Days in Montgomery quit a bit in the 90's. That was one word you didn't hear very often there!...LoL
I am going to shoot for Crossants and or Bagles for breakfast. It depends on what I can find for a deal. As soon as I know i'll post it.
Yes, I will certainly bring as much cheer as i can muster at that time of the morning, but i hope y'all won't turn down some old fashioned popovers! they won't be hot--as i'll have made them the day before-- but I'll see what i can do! and I'll also attempt to get some jam or jelly..... i dunno if it'll be grape, strawberry, or what....

I know this is a long shot, but could someone sneak me in some FAT KID PIE? I can't attend the breakfast.
I will be over at Will's shop selling shoes.
Pretty please with sugar on top?
PS-DO NOT bring it to my Uncle's shop. He will eat it-seriously.
Okay... The Channel 4 weather goof just said,, "No rain in sight for the whole weekend"
SQUEEL!
:o wow back on topic! Cool.
I will try to get a coffee cake or 2 on Fri after work to bring along
I got the grill cleaned up. will pack the van Friday. I have to work Friday night (CRAP!!!) so I will be meeting Jenn there. Im gonna be tired but it's going to be so much fun.
I am thinking of maybe bringing hot dogs or meat for burgers for lunch, I will need a break and a snooze in the middle of the day. If you want to bring food to cook so be it, we are bringing a cooler.
That's a really good idea Sleepy, who knows what others may do the same thing?
SQUEEEE!!!
Opening day is almost here! So what time do the parking lot gates open again? I've been looking forward to this breakfast since end of faire last year!
Gates open at 8 am right?
and some of us will be there by 6 or 7 ...lol...
Quote from: Sleepy on August 14, 2008, 04:49:13 AM
Gates open at 8 am right?
Cannon's at nine am silly. We don't even have to have our cars off site until 8:30.
I think they meant the gates to the parking lot. :D
I do believe in past years that the SS night crew was responsible for unlocking the entrance gates to the parking lot. Mostly that process can take place anywhere between 6:30AM and 7:30AM. From what I've been told, things have changed a little with the shift start and end times for night crew and day crew. So I couldn't say when they would be opened.
Sean
Last year they where pretty consistant with opening them at 8. Even if small group started chanting "open the gate" before that, not sure who they where... ::)
As far as I can recall, parking gates have always opened at 8AM every year I've been going. The line forms before that of course, with a few of us in that line. It doesn't always work out that we can go in by the second gate though. But I've never had a problem parking in the grove when we tell them who we are.
Last year was the first year I could come that early and stay all day... So yeah 8:00 am last year.
Now what kind of scoundrel would show up early. ::)
I don't think Josh and I are going to make it to breakfast.
I'm not sure if we're going to make opening at all. No worries, just don't want anyone looking for us and wondering if something happened to us. Have fun out there all!
Hey look! We made it to page 12!
I was surfing my cookbooks trying to come up with something fun and interesting for breakfast. Brain dead at the moment. Guess it'll be a surprise-for all of us. ::)

Ah, I see, It's been a couple decades since I drove in the front except for the one time last year when the back road was washed out by the rain, the back entrance off of Hwy 41 is open much earlier.
And they don't check vehicle passes after sun-up as far as I know
good to know ;)
The Backgate (aka hwy 41 entrance) guard gets pulled at 7AM.
Most of the time, IF there is someone there, they do not stop you. On the rare occasion they have stopped me, I always give them our booth number IF that happens or I wave my pass.
It is closed to entering into fest after certain time (One-ish I believe) in the afternoon as well. They ask you to turn around and enter the 169 way.
***Peggy Elizabeth,
The tablecloths are clean. I will have the girl deliver them sometime before opening cannon. There are four of them.****

did u just get home DB? We will be out with kidlets.
we'll be there today!
I was out there for a while today, but since I am not a fan of warm weather, I left early.
When water started tasting better then beer I knew it was time to leave. Good thing too, it's pushing 91 here right now as I type this!
I left early today too. My boss let me off 2 hours early and I decided just to go home, because I was really hot and uncomfortable, plus my shoulder and feet were really sore from holding the chocolate tray and wearing flip flops. Ugh.
just got home! Was wonderful to see everyone that I saw this weekend! To those I missed, next weekend! It was a fantastic time...and I must compliment on the wonderful food. MG...that was some awesome turkish stuff! And the FKP...OMG! :-)
The girl, myself and my cousin Britty were out today for a little while after the bridal-shower-from-hell.
Oh, my and look, here, I dropped thirty bucks in Mac's Pub, and picked up a shiny trinket of the Dregs variety.
Lily, you looked lovely in your new gown. great job dancing too-the few minutes I got to catch.
Great to see everyone again. Sales were pretty good for us, we had our best first weekend since
2001. I also heard from a couple different sources that attendance was over 12,600 for Saturday.
I hate to say it, but Beth and I are wondering if the news in the local media about Joe Kudla (AKA Snot) passing away might have helped increase awareness among the public that the first weekend was here upon us. We heard from friends as far away as Arizona who had stumbled
on his obituary. -Perhaps we have to list it under the heading of "any publicity is good publicity"

Sales were phenomenal for us for first day too. Sunday was a pretty normal first Sunday, maybe slightly busier. I do think the publicity from Joe's death had a lot to do with it. It's sad, but I imagine many people were out to pay their respects, which is okay. Although I'm sure many were there out of mobid curiosity as well....
Hey all, it was nice to see who I did, I hope MG found her brother, sorry I worked Friday night and ended up being awake for 42 hours by the time I went to bed Saturday night at 10:30. I saw some of you but I was pretty out of it for most of the weekend. I should be more with it next weekend, even though I think I work all three nights.
Hope you all had fun. I know me and Avalon did!

Carr's comment during Cast Call on sunday was that opening saturday last year there were roughly 4000 people that came through the gates. Last saturday, roughly 12,500.
Sorry to those that I didn't get to meet as of yet, and glad to meet those that I did get a chance to meet. It was a great weekend overall. Lots of catching up with old friends, making new ones....and a lot of sweat & dirt.

Jaysus! over 3x as many. Of course, it was also rainy first weekend last year, so maybe it's usually a little higher than 4000, but still. Crazy!
But last year didn't we have monsoon rains first weekend?
Our sales on first weekend 2007 were the worst we've had since our very first year at MNRF
This is very true. We had a couple of very rainy weekends last year.

Along with the rain, fest closed up early on the first Saturday :o!!!! At 3:00 in the afternoon if I remember right...
There was definitely a monsoon last year on Opening Day. It was nice to have a nice sunny opening weekend!
A little story, Sort of a you had to be their to get the full effect story.
So LD & I are in the Glade with Renjen. She has the children with and we are all talking suddenly their little girl asked LD why she has a needle in her mouth (Needle being her tongue piercing). Pretty soon there boy is saying that LD could use a plier to pull it out... ;D I am about rotf about this.
So Renjen starts to tell the children what the "needle" is and that adults sometimes get these.
It was so cute but I just couldn't help think (and say out loud) that this was a talk she really should have to have yet with the children.... Sorry Renjen & Sleepy... ;)
They also asked me about my "needle" in my tongue, even though I don't have any piercings. Then they asked if I was a monster due to the horns I was wearing.
(Later on that day I got called a faun, even though I was in normal garb. Strange)
Erynn,
LOVED your jester "hat".
I was emptying a bottle of water into my mug, and a little kid asked me if he could have one.
I told him I was sorry but it is only for the workers and we were out anyways.
Wouldn't you have like to have to proceeds from the bottled water sold on Saturday?
I think I drank two gallons on Saturday. Glad I brought my own. I would have gone broke buying it per bottle there.
