I am so sorry to say this, but Rachel and I can't join ya'll this year!  It makes me utterly sad!!  We had planned on going the final weekend because we thought our friends wedding was the 3rd weekend in Dec, but we didn't find out that it's ya'lls closing weekend UNTIL the only weekend we could have missed TRF...  I love love love LARF and I wish ya'll the very best of seasons!!!

Because we live near NOLA we have had no reason to camp for LARF.  We hope to camp this weekend so I was wondering has anyone done Camp Serenity?  How was it?

No one else has replied so I'll just say what I know. I live in Hammond so I don't camp.

Camp Serenity is a mix of volunteer cast and patrons.  It is overseen by one of our cast directors. There is a communal fire pit and sometimes the camp director organizes evening activities.

I've heard that things can be a little lively for anyone wishing to go to sleep early.  But maybe that's what you're looking for.

Think of one of the clan campsites at TRF. The rules are loose, but they do exist. The weekends I've been there have had one communal campfire with most of the camp sitting around it talking, singing and sharing spirits. There are often drummers, dancers and fire spinners, all without the stupid wildness that takes place at TRF's drum circle. I have to agree though, if you camp too close to the fire, light sleepers will have trouble getting to sleep early.

I camped last year at closing what little noise there was wasn't that much, but I can sleep through most anything. I hope to make closing again this year. I'm in the middle of buying a house and hope to be moved in by then if not I might have to skip LARF this year, I hope not. It's an 7 to 8 hour drive down there, but it's worth it.

Thanks y'all!  Cool, like TRF drum circle, but tamer.  Shame on us that we've not tried camping at LARF before now.  We're bringing along a couple of newbies to the Ren fair experience and are hoping they will love it and agree to drive the 8 hours to TRF next year.  (Don't worry LARF you will always be my first. :-*)

Last year camping at LARF was like a live performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show!!  Plus some drums and violining... it was great!  We had the best time with all those guys and I'm quite sad we won't get a repeat this year!

I'd personally recommend just moving further down the road from the communal pit.   the patron camp is pretty encompassed, but there's definetly some usable areas further down the road that its on
