Title: Who's going on labor day?
Post by: Lady_Claira on August 26, 2009, 12:54:40 PM
Just wondering who is gonna be at NYRF on labor day. I might be bringing a friend, not completely sure yet. It depends on if she is working or not. But if people are going to be there, maybe there is a time when we can all meet up and say hi.

What do you say?

I am going that weekend, along with my wife and at least one friend (it will be his first time attending a Ren. Faire, and I'll be providing him with something to wear too :)). We are planning to go on Saturday, weather permitting, but I'm holding Labor Day as either a back up day, or more likely, a return day, if we feel that we really didn't see enough on Saturday. This will be our first time attending the New York Ren. Faire, so we're really excited.

Well I can only go on labor day. Saturday and Sunday I have rehearsal for another faire. But NYRF is a great faire with a ton of good shows and the cast members are awesome. You'll have a blast Sir Kindle.

Oh Kindle, the Sheriff's chess match is incredible and funny! A great show to see.

If you like acrobats and humor, check out Dextre Tripp. I always make time to go see him and I am always amazed. The final pub sing is always fun too as well as Trial and Punishment. That's hysterical.

Though I'm certain, whatever you chose, you'll have a blast.

Well, depending on what is going on I might be at the joust pub at certain points of the day. Last time I went I had a friend run two games there and he might again. He wanted me to help on one but I was really a bad job at it and now all my friends and their friends are determined to corrupt me and train me to be a proper wench! LOL

Thanks for all the ideas! I was definitely planning on seeing the chess match, but, after that, I wasn't sure. I'm concerned that, as usual, I won't have enough time to see all the things I want to. While I'm mostly planning on shopping, since it's my friends first time at a faire, I've got to make sure that he see some of the shows, so he'll get an idea of what faires are all about.

As for following the plot. I've rarely had any luck following the plots at any of the faires. I usually get too involved with shopping, talking with friends, or watching other shows, that I end up missing most of the plot. I went to King Richard's Faire 5 times last year and I think I only caught one of the main plot shows. Same for the Connecticut Ren Faire.

I will try hard to break my past habits, if only for this one day, but it's going to be hard, given all the great new shops I'll be able to look through.

However, please keep an eye out for me Lady Claira, as you'll more than likely see me there on Labor Day, even if I can only stay till 5pm (long drive home to Cape Cod that night and my kids start school the next day, so...). I'll either be wearing my pirate outfit, again, or, more than likely, my blue and gold Noble garb. If I go in my noble outfit, my wife will be wearing a matching gown. You can see pictures of me in both outfits, on my flickr sight (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lordgregor/).

Now, how will I know who you are, if I do go on Monday? Aside from your avatar picture, I'm not sure what you look like, or what you'll be wearing.

As you can probably tell, I'm very excited about next weekend. I hope to see you there!

kindle it is impossible to see everything in one day!!! i know ill be going back at some point before closing to see more of the side shows!!

I think there is a decent enough break in the plot to shop and stuff..me and my sister were able to catch all of the main story plot events and still have a few hours to shop go to the pub and eat lunch.

Amazing how the time flies isn't it? I remember the first day I went, I was thinking.."How am I going to be amused for a full day here..?"  LOL     Needless to say, we're nearing the end and I still haven't caught all the shows because as you said - distractions. The more people you know, the worse the distractions too.   Some people don't even bother with the shows anymore - they just end up hanging out talking all day long ( Which at $20 to get in and $6 a beer I find really hard to justify - I'd rather see shows...)

Labor Day weekend is going to be my big catch-up period, one day to follow the Queens story, and another for Robin Hood.  We'll see how that works out, heh.

Brother Robert, you scare me when you mention that there are two plots going on. I have a hard enough time following one, but two will probably be impossible for me.

Oh, and I just finalized our weekend plans with my friend and, baring any unforeseen complications, I will be attending the faire again on Labor Day. However, I'll probably end up in my pirate garb again. I've been trying to pack everything I need into the car and I'm running out of room, and, sadly, our noble outfits just take up waaaay to much space.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for you and Brother Robert on Monday.

Excellent, assuming all goes well, I'll be there all 3 days - Sat, Sun and Mon.

I suspect Labor day will be crowded, so it could be a challenge to run into one another. However, if anyone wants to get a hold of me you can visit the Friends of Faire Garden in the back of the faire on the Queens Highway - just ask for Brother Robert. If I'm not there they'll get word to me.

I'm hoping to actually catch a few shows this weekend, I'm so behind on the various plots.. Though I did catch Taming of the Shrew, which I enjoyed :)

I'm pretty sure that labor day will be crowded as well. I also know that on labor day a bunch of people dress funky like. LOL. But I'm ready for it.

As for going to the friends of faire garden in the back to say Hi to you Brother Robert? Don't you have to be a member of the friends of faire to do that? (Not saying you aren't, just saying that if you do have to be a member, someone like me who isn't going to do that wouldn't work so well, lol)

Yes there were some whacky outfits last year now that I think about it, hm...

Guests are most welcome at the FoF garden!  You are always welcome to come say hello or meet someone!   ( There is a back area, that is secluded and members only, but the front is a public reception area )  There is always someone there manning the garden  and welcoming visitors :)
