Don't know if this is related to your issue but I have to attempt every link twice because the first time I get a standard "may not be connected to internet" but the second time is always successful.
My computer is slow, ugly, and stupid though this is only occuring on this site.

I have noticed that mine's been doing the same thing, just on this site...Hmmm
Hi all,
Could anyone that's having connectivity problems let me know who their internet providers are? you can PM them to me if you don't want to post it publically. I've been having some random issues since a problem last week and I'm trying to track it down and this would help.
Hi Tom,
I use Verizon FIOS and Firefox.
earthlink/firefox
Noticed some connectivity issues here as well.
Qwest is my provider, and I run Firefox and Safari.
I've been having connectivity issues for the last few days --- same symptoms described above - the first click on a link usually times out, but if I click the link once, then click on Stop, then click the link a second time, the page loads immediately.
I've seen it at work at NASA - Johnson Space Center here in Houston (not sure how they connect to the Internet), using Firefox 3.5.7 on the NASA specific load of WinXP Pro, 32-Bit.
I've also seen it at home on Comcast Cable Internet, using Opera 10.10 on OpenSUSE 11.2, Linux 2.6.31.12-0.1-default x86_64.
Take Care,
David Baldock
Time Warner Cable in Austin.
I've gotten so that I just click the link again before it has a chance to error out. Not really a problem for me but I hope you get it sorted out.
The forum looked weird a few times, like plain text links, yesterday but I was able to navigate and post.
My provider is At&t, and I use Firefox. I've been getting the same thing as the others. Having to click twice, or refresh because it times out. I've also gotten the plain text like Lady Dona Catalina.
It usually doesn't bug me, but since I found this topic I thought I'd chime in.
We've made a networking change. Could every one that's had page load problems let me know if it's the same or better?
Better, but I'm still noticing some delay that seems to be less consistent than previously.

I'm getting the same here, still a great improvement! ;D
Still getting the problem here as of 11:20pm using Comcast for internet service and Firefox 3.5.7
Mine has been having problems as well. I use Brighthouse Networks on Firefox.
I use Cox Cable with Firefox, and it's been doing this for well over a week, maybe 10 days. Looks like Firefox is predominantly the browser being used by those of us who have reported a problem here.
I use Verizon, IE with windows Vista on one computer and AT&T with firefox and windows XP IE on another computer. I have the same issues regardless.
I'm getting numerous timeout errors regardless of network (IBM, AT&T, Comcast), OS (XP, WIn7), and browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
AT&T with IE at work
FIOS with Firefox at home
Running about 50% connectivity. I'll click and it will either just sit there, not acknowledging the click or it will go to a "can't connect with that page" error. If I click a second time, it works just fine.
Same here:
Home: Sprint Aircard, Firefox, Safari, Chrome
College: Comcast, IE, Firefox
I'm using Verizon Fios,it ALWAYS takes atleast 2 trys to get on or move about.
It has been doing that to me on any computer I get on and I use many different ones. Seems like it started not long after the server upgrade.
I haven't noticed any improvement here at home. Don't know whether there was any improvement at work today, since I was too busy to login to the Forums.
Take Care,
David Baldock
EDIT: The Forum hangs/delays and time outs that I still saw yesterday, Tuesday, 16-Feb-10 at home (Houston Comcast Cable) are also still evident today, Wednesday, 17-Feb-10 at work (NASA - JSC).
I've noticed that roaming around the site is OK most of the time with a few random time outs, but trying to post in a thread is not fun at all...
Posts do seem to take awhile to update after hitting the "post" button.
I tried several posts yesterday just to measure the different responses. About 45% posted normally.
About 10% gave me the 'could not connect please diagnose connectivity problem'
About 35% gave me a blank page but when I went back the post was there.
About 10% gave the 'sql server has gone away'
Still slow at times but not as often.
Of course it happens right after I saw it not happening as much.
I want to thank everyone for replying, it's bee VERY helpful. We've made some more changes, if everyone could let me know how it's working now I'd really and truly appreciate it!
Whatever you did, I think you fixed it! :) So far this morning, no problems at all. Maybe a little slow still, but no error message.
So far so good for me, too.
Works like a charm now. Thanks Tom!
Haven't had any problems so far! Thanks for all your hard work!!! :)
Yep, it seems better now. I'm happy ;D. For those that are curious as to what the problem was and why it took so long to resolve, it goes like this.
We started having connectivity problems on 02/12/10 after a server problem. After four days of screwing around making sure it wasn't a DNS or firewall problem we thought we had traced it down to a switch in the data center.
When a computer attempts to make a connection to a server, it sends a syn packets asking to open communication on a specific port, the server responds with an ack packet, and then they start making their requests.
When reproducing this issue, the initial syn packets on requests that time out, are making it to the network switch where the server is plugged in, but it seemed like they were not making it across that network switch to the server's main tcp stack. We worked with the datacenter to see what could be done to correct this, but we thought we were looking at a switch level issue. Because the problem was intermittent and only effecting IP communication where the syn and ack packets are used, the problem was not immediately apparent.
After swapping the switch the problem still wasn't resolved. We then found an issue with the tcp handling in the firmware of the networking card in the server. To minimize downtime, we had our DC update the firmware on a replacement chassis and once it was done preformed a chassis swap.
Again I apologize for the problems!

Same for me...I thought my Firefox was messing up so I switched over to IE and got the same thing...only on this site.
It is much better today. It only timed out on me once when I first got on. Thanks guys.
Working A-OK.
Things have pretty much cleared up for my here at home (Houston Comcast Cable Internet, using Opera 10.10 on OpenSUSE 11.2, Linux 2.6.31.12-0.1-default x86_64), except for an odd failure to login on the first attempt. I use the "auto-login" feature in my Opera browser, so I know the user name and password weren't mis-typed.

Defiantly a marked improvement... ;D
Thanks for all your continued hard work Tom!!!
HUZZAH!
I'm glad you found the problem. Chasing down SYN/ACK/FIN issues is a bugaboo to deal with because it can appear like many other problems higher up the IP stack.
