We shall not miss!! thanks, Butch!
Count in Marietta Graziella and her handsome VexedViscount to be in attendance! ;D
As for activity, I rather enjoy the scavenger hunt as a way to get around to the whole faire. There are always nooks and tucked away spots that get missed on a 1 weekend visit.
Also in the vein of no unforeseen complications, I'll be there! So very excited to visit KC's faire!

Yes! The National World War I museum is in downtown Kansas City! It will definitely occupy an entire day!
Butch, I know there is still plenty of time, but have you had a chance to look into hotels? Are you at all thinking the one we usually stay? Had some people asking.
Which hotel do you usually use, Gauwyn?

There are 2 about a mile away. Holiday inn express and I think a super8. These are in Bonner Springs.
I saw those... wish there was a Hampton at that spot. There's one over by the track, but much more expensive. I have enough points to stay for free, however. That may override all other considerations....
Hotels, yes! We are working on that now! We are trying to block off some rooms, and get a good price. As soon as we strike a deal, we will post it under another thread. I already posted a thread about camping, because that question always comes up.
We have been making major progress for so early in the game!
How did the "White Elephant" exchange go last year? I mean, how successful was it? I'm thinking Saturday night may be a good night for it, since not everyone will make it to the Friday night get-together.

there is a Hampton in Shawnee Mission that is maybe 20 minutes from faire, we stayed there a few years back. It was reasonable.

Wow, must have been a great time ;D
I didn't see any white elephants at the resturant we were at that Friday and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have fit if there were any.
Saw some pink flying elephants later that night just before passing out, I mean before I went to sleep. But being a M'Crack I figured that was normal.

Oh! Was he referring to the gift thingy from the CORF RenDezvous?
Yes! The gifty-thingee! I understand it WAS NOT at NC last year; I beg your pardon! I'm thinking Saturday night, we'll have a gift exchange. Was it fun at the CO get together? I missed the Friday night stuff out there!
It was fun for me! I walked away with the Jack Daniel's! Who would have thought, eh?
No, we didn't do it in Carolina...

Yes, I am confused. I thought that is what we were talking about. Now I remember the Saturday thing (I am surprised I actually summoned the brain cells that held that info :) )

Would be fun to see you guys there! (Although I am *crossing fingers* hopefully going to make an appearance at CORF this year!)
At RenDezVous 2011 - CoRF (Colorado), the meet N Greet had a gift exchange I called the Ren Elephant.
It was held at RockYard Brewery, on the outside deck, we had a special guest that turned out to be Kimberly Stockton.
The gifts were provided at no charge (There were gifts, some new, some old (from estate sales) and some were flubs,, some had a ren theme and others did not, but the interaction it created with people who only knew of eachother online was priceless in my organizer assistant estimation.
It was an awesome event that Captain Spleen and Blushing put on. Huge fun. HUGE!
I am still cleaning the powder from my face (remember the horn :D )
I agree, Spleen and Blushing did a great job.
LOL! No, I had forgotten the horn gag! Lots of fun times that night!
I never did put together that model replica pirate ship I ended up with after the Ren Elephant....in fact I think it stayed in my trunk for a good long while until I pawned it off on my little brother who is far better at putting those things together than I am.
As for this year's Rendezvous, it is a good time of year and close enough for me to drive in that direction in one day, but unfortunately I won't be able to commit yet to attending this year, as that time is going to be pretty darn close to the arrival of Baby Zoe...but you never know. Perhaps with a doctor's blessing I will be able to join in the fun.
Zoe, I will not add you to the list; BUT I hope to see you this year!!
I met with the sales director of the KCRF today, and let me tell you, KCRF is VERY supportive of our RenDezVous in Oct! Attendees will see some great benefits this year! SURPRISE!

Well, we were quite positive about the odds that we would be at KC, then doubtful for a bit. But after seeing what kind of tax return we're supposed to get, we're definite.
Especially since Merlin said he's paying for the ale all weekend.

Well, the tax return is more the government's doing, though I hate giving them credit for anything. Especially since at least 50 percent of the time they contact me to say I did my taxes wrong and owe them money, and I have to get back in touch with them and explain to the IRS how our tax status works. And since I haven't actually seen the return yet, this could be the year they don't believe me and insist on counting my income twice.
Anyway, to answer the question, two. My wife and I.
Oh, and I just noticed I am on the list alone twice, so you just have to adjust the name and not the count.
We also will be receiving a delightful return from Uncle Sam. Looks like my husband, TheVexedViscount, and I will be in attendance. ;D

That bottle of Jack Daniel's that I walked away at the exchange with never made it out of Colorado. I don't drink anymore. I don't drink any less, either.
EDIT: As for your assumption that my Lady Nimue will be with me, that is correct. She's my American Express. I don't leave home without her.

Marietta Graziella: got you and the Vexed Viscount down as MG and VV. Thank-you!
Regarding the white elephant gift exchange: Good idea! Some others had mentioned it as well. I will post something about it soon, so people can start finding a gift to bring along and exchange!

Sorry for the delay in responding, Butch. I've been having a spot of bother with my password, which required the intervention of DB to rectify.

Is your Royal Pub Crawl any good? Would they do a private group (assuming we have enough interest)?
I didn't even know they had a pub crawl
It is looking more likely that due to the Columbus holiday weekend, and Galena being a tourist town, my friends will have to work that weekend. So we are looking at an earlier weekend.
Back to the hotel question. Are those prices special just for RenDezvous, and do they include 1 ticket for faire? Do you know if they have this special at other times?
Thank you.

I'm trying to decide if want stay one or two extra days after .

Ah, sorry I misunderstood you earlier! Those prices quoted in the other thread were worked out for our RenDezVous! The normal prices are a bit more, but yes, they do include KCRF tix. Give them a call!
Ms Trish and Gauwyn: the pub crawl was just started last year at KC. I can certainly get with Akbar and the KCRF mgmt to see if they'll do one specifically for us! Last year, it included 3 pubs with a drink at each one. It was different than the MNRF Pub Crawl in that there wasn't much outside entertainment. I think they will be changing it up this year. Is this something we would be interested in, going on a guided "official" pub crawl as a group? Oh, and Gauwyn, the pub crawls we went on were self-inflicted!

IF you plan on site-seeing, you will want to rent a car. KC is pretty spread out, and the faire site is a ways from downtown KC, and a ways from the airport. I'm certain you could get back and forth btwn the airport and the hotel, and back and forth btwn the hotel and the faire/events without a car; but much more than that, and you'll need some sort of transportation.

KCRF is about 15-20 mins from downtown. I make that drive every weekend, and it isn't bad at all. We don't have much public transportation though as Butch mentioned, but a taxi might be feasible.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art down town is free and a must see attraction. National WW1 museum, Union Station, Power and Light district and the Plaza shopping area are also fun things to see around the city. Those attractions I named are all within 8 mins of each other driving, and a taxi is definitely around that area.
Teach me to not pay attention in the off season for Colorado. We missed last year at KCRF due to some family issues. We are defininitely planning to come this year and I think our dates are now decided. So, the two of us for sure. I'll try to twist the son (aka "The Fool") and DIL's tails into coming, too.
Look forward to seeing you again, Merlin!

I can't guarantee that I'll be at all of them, as since that's closing weekend, part of my weekend will be saying farewell to my KCRF fairemly for the season...but I'll be at some things! :-) Likely, so will my boyfriend, so two can be added. :-)

Well, shoot! You're even on the original post as a committee member! Read the top few threads on the RenDezVous threads, and weigh in! And of course, keep eyeing our FB committee page!

This just made me realize you must not have local attendees posted! Would you add yourselves to the list so we can see everyone who is attending and not just the visitors?
There's a Facebook page? Did I miss the link somewhere?

The Facebook page is for us committee members, to keep the activities we have a SURPRISE for you guests!
Ah! I like surprises! By the way, by the time we got our vacation time approved, the hotel we were going to be able to stay at for free became "no vacancies." Do you know if the Super 8 still has any spaces?
Yes, surprises are nice. But please don't surprise us with who will be at Rendezvous who is local. ;D
Butch is a one-man band :)
Booked into the Super 8 now...

No, I mean I've heard rumors of people who are trying to attend but have not yet made their intentions public. Just saying it's early in the game and we already have a nice head count going. :)
Hang on to your hats, KC!
Goodryn Anisette (from MN), Wildthingjew, Miss Katie Scarlett, and Lady Renee Buchanan (from Bristol) will arrive in their chariot on Friday afternoon for the RenDezvous!
And we all can't wait!!!

P.S. one of the performers is a personal friend of Steve and me. He doesn't know about my visit, it's a surprise, so if any of you are my Facebook friends, please don't post anything there about us going to the Rendezvous. He also is friends with Jamie and Katie, so shhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

We're tryin' to roll in under the radar! ;D
Of course, I have my usual gazillion questions. As of now, I can only remember these.
1. Are there group discount tickets for the 3 day weekend? If so, how do we purchase?
2. Is there a dinner after faire on Saturday or Sunday nights, and if there is, where is it?
3. What is the weather supposed to be like? How hot is "hot"?
4. Flushables or just port a privies (medical reason for asking this)
Thanks for your help. ;D

1. I think you will need to contact Roger Clements, Marketing and Sales Manager, @ Office Phone: (913) 721-2110 or (800) 373-0357 for information about group discounted tickets
2. Haven't heard if there is going to be a group dinner after Faire.
3. Cloak in the morning. Comfortable later in the day. Can get into the upper 70's, low 80's.
4. Two "flushies". One at the front and one at the back. Porta-pots in various locations.
according to the hotel post, KCRF was going to give 1 free ticket for the hotel stay? Can anyone confirm that?
I know in years past there was a discount for a group of tickets (I think 10 or more)
One of the things I worked out with Roger was at least one ticket with every night booked at the hotel. We are also supposed to have special1 2 and 3 day ticket packages. I will confirm with Roger next week. Stay tuned for this, and many other surprises!

1. I will have more info on this, hopefully this week.
2. I have nothing planned for Sat or Sun. The other planners from former RenDezVous' have said that people do not go to these. Instead, they all form groups of their own. We will have local guides of what is nearby.
3. Weather? Who knows? Be ready for hot, or cold!
4. There are TWO plumbed privvies in Canterbury. They are called "Royal Privvies". One is near the front entrance and one is near the rear entrance.

Who is Roger? We are staying at that hotel, but booked outside of the call-in, since AARP was a little cheaper... That may bite me on the arse on the tickets, but plan to attend all 3 days...
Looks like it will be just me (aka Wheatie) and the missus (now Lady Joyce). My son (aka "the fool") and his wife (aka "the lady in white") can't get time off. Or, more correctly, he managed to get one day off but he's going to use it to work the lanes at Santa Fe.

I just looked up the averages on the weather channel. Avg high is 70, avg low is 50. Records are about 15 above and below that. As I recall last year was still warm, like mid 70s.

Was that Columbus Day weekend? It WAS chilly that day! I remember loaning the heavy wool cloaks to the Young Bracknellites, who decided that Cartoon Network was calling their name! That was a good day though; spending it with you and the missus!
It was the weekend before Columbus (it was M'Lady's birthday)

Nothing below 60 degrees please! I will freeze!
Last year during Columbus Weekend, the Duchess and I were in KC as guest cast. WE FROZE OUR BUNS!! However, as a fetching lass at Scarby once informed me, there is no such thing as bad festival weather; merely inappropriate clothing.
WeatherUnderground.com, my favorite weather source, provides the following data for the period 11-15 Oct for Bonner Springs:
Avg High: 67
Avg Low 47
Chance of precip: 36%
PERFECT for noble garb!!
I don't mind the cold at all, and in fact, welcome it. Two years ago at opening weekend of Sherwood Forest, we got a touch of sleet. The same weekend the year prior, it was in mid-80s.
I will take cold any day over nearly 100 degrees with nearly 100 percent humidity. And that temperature range does sound ideal for noble garb.

Spot on!!!
NO WEAPONS TO BE WORN at this Faire! I keep forgetting to post this. Peace tying is NOT ok! They do not allow weapons, so don't hassle with bringing them, just leave them at home. Last year, one of the extra picky ticket collectors wouldn't let my son Michael bring his shoemaker toolbelt in because it had sharp pointy scissors.
So, please, if you wear weapons as part of your garb (and for you Pirates out there, a toy flintlock is a weapon), please heed my words, and leave your weapons outside the gates.
My staff would not be considered as such, would it? I have been quizzed about it before at one of the faires...

I wouldn't be concerned, Merlin. It should be fine.
May I take in my rapier wit if I'm tongue-tied? :P
Walking sticks (as long as they don't have a point) are fine Merlin...
Remembered from my last visit:
As has been said-NO weapons, and that includes 'decorative' axes, knives or anything that appears to be a weapon. I think that includes those little eating daggers, but I'm not sure. Really depends on if the gate police see them. Don't bother.
You can buy weapons on site- but they will be kept at the gate until you leave. Wooden toy weapons are OK.
Note: They are only slightly more lenient with alcohol. I have had friends bring
a tankard of beer through the gate on one day, and be told they couldn't on the next. I'm not sure if they spot check flasks, but I wouldn't be surprised-the drinks are expensive inside and they want you to pay for them. To my eye, the booze checks were kind of arbitrary. You probably have a better chance going in when the line is long and they want to get it moving.
Don't even ask to bring anything in if they challenge you. They will not make exceptions once they have determined to keep you from bringing it in.
The only other faire hubby and I will be going to this year will be Riverssance in Sioux City 5-6 of October, and then only for one day if the weather is nice. We have been going out of town practically every weekend since mid august for family events, Clan Games or Faire. Faire is the only thing we do just for fun, so we cut expenses there first. Gate is only $10.00 to get in, and the lodging is cheap. We still have Games to work, and another out of town birthday to attend this month.
We have already turned down free tickets to KCRF for this weekend for a wedding, because it conflicts with one of the the other commitments we have made.
Post lots of pics from the KC gathering!
We have had staves (walking sticks) challenged, and have been told by merchants selling them that they must be walked to the gates. If you need it to walk with, bring it--but otherwise, better safe than sorry. I have a curtain rod with a leaf-shaped finial, painted to look like a spear, that's been turned away. (My shield, however, has been no issue.)
Insurance doesn't want patrons poking OR smacking each other. ;)
Merlin's wizard's staff is pretty spectacular. Would be a shame to not be able to carry it out at faire.
Ticket specials.
I spoke with Roger over the weekend. He has guaranteed ONE complimentary ticket PER ROOM PER NIGHT at the Super 8.
He also says that 1 day passes are $19.95, 2 day passes are $30, and 3 day passes are $30. So why buy a 2 day pass? I'm not sure if he hands out 3 of the tickets, or if there is something else special; I imagine it will be 3 tickets.
No word yet on anything else (well, that isn't a secret!)
More to come as we learn more!
Ask questions, though! I don't want to forget anything!

On another thread, Cowgrrl post that she and Al-Nimer will not be making it this year. We regret that we will not have the pleasure of their company at our event.

We have a meeting in KC at 2 which I expect to last for about an hour, so we could pick you up even if that runs a bit late. If that sounds good to you, PM me your flight info and cell phone phone. (Provided you have one. I almost assumed again that everyone has one, just because I'm required to because I'm always on call.)
Great !! Sending message.
I'm always on call, too, Iain, but if they can't get me on the land-line, they are SOL. I will not carry a cell phone, and will only use one under duress from my bride or son.
