Title: Pronounce your name
Post by: ladylissame on October 04, 2010, 12:57:41 PM
Do you have a name that may have different pronunciations? I didn't realize mine did tell several people started saying it!

For instance, Lady Lissame
I pronounce it Liss-uh-mee, but many others are saying Liss-uhm.

Anyone else?

Hmm, nope, I always saw it as Liss-ah-me.  =D

Oh.  Sorry, I was always thinking Mare-teh- I was close though!  =)  But Marty?  I don't see that...

Ahhh... now this is a thread that could help me a great deal!  I found out about a year or so ago that a lot of people pronounce my Faire name phonetically, saying the first part as though it rhymed with man, like "RAN-ee", but instead it's an "ah" sound... (accent on the first syllable):

RAH-nee Zeh-MEER-uh.

I always think yours either Rah-nee or Rae-nee...

;D  I thought that might be how you pronounced yours, although I wasn't positive, but I did have Lissame and Mairte correct.

Ok, that had me.  I'm a Californian, and I was pronouncing it CAT-uh-Lee-nuh, like hte island.   I was spot on the others though.

Mine is simple.  Rowen   'Row-in'

I do not spell it Rowan for the simple reason that it seems like everyone spells it like that or the more exotic 'Rowyn'.

That's ok- most people don't think about the Spanish pronunciation.

So, being Spanish, your title should actually be Doña?

Yes, but at the time I signed up the forum didn't want to accept the tilde.

Wren-A   (long A like in the alphabet with the accent on the second syllable)

Get lots of times  REE-knee

Our last name is Dowe.  I always say like the Dow Jones Industrial or Dow Chemicals without the money.

Many people pronounce it like the word "owe" with a D in front of it.  Like dough that you bake with.

E: "What is your name?"

B: "Kate."

E: "Isn't that a bit of a... girl's name?"

B: "Oh, um... it's short for 'Bob'."

My name is also pretty simple - David

Nothing too complex about it, except my Dad used to call me "Brother Dave", due to his listening to Brother Dave Gardner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brother_Dave_Gardner) back in the 1960's.   ;)  ;D

LOL. By coincidence, my daughter's name is Kate. But no, I didn't name my son Baldrick.  ;)

I've been using mine in SF cons for since 1994.  When I started doing anime cons in '06, people thought it was Japanese and tried pronouncing it. (it's an acronym)

ME
A

yoU
wHO?

Most people pronounce it somewhere around Meow or Meh-yu.

Because of my time working for Federal and State governments, it's listed as a legal alias.

B-AHH-b...

Could be B-OH-b, I suppose... but I'm pretty sure you have to have at least 2 o's for it to make the oooo sound.  :P
