Well everyone, here we go. The Country Renaissance Festival is coming to Milton. September 26, 27 2009 at Country Heritage Park. There will be JOUSTING, a chess match, games of skill, vendors, TURKEY LEGS and much more. Soon to hit web browsers, www.countryrenfest.com stay tuned for what will come. This will be a show that will grow as the years come. Also check www.fairesintime.com
I can't wait. We are so looking forward to being there. Our first Faire was the Pirate Festival this year and now we are spending every spare minute and every time we are out shopping thinking of garb and try to get things together in time.
Does anyone know where the preferred camping location is?
Well, I know there's a campground just to the north of the site on the other side of the highway- Milton Heights Campground. I don't know what the grounds are like (camping and me do NOT get along!) but you can't get much closer.
Thanks for that. I think that we are going to hold off on making camping plans until closer to the date since weather could be a real issue. I am more for the hotel/motel route anyway. The concept of putting on garb for the first time in a tent does not appeal to me so much either.
Will you be there? Do you think it will be well attended?
Yes, I'm going to be there as Lady Maria de Salinas, one of Catherine of Aragon's ladies in waiting.
And since it's a first time event, there's no real way of knowing what attendance will be like. It's an adventure!
Hurray for adventures..... or, I guess it should be .... Huzzah for adventures.
I am so looking forward to this new life. The whole family is very excited to be involved too. We will look for you. Are there other Canadians on the board?
Oh, this is great!
I was just complaining earlier today about the fact that our old faire here was gone! And then I decide to check back here for the first time in ages and what do you know! The first topic on the Canadian/Europian forums is /this/.
I'm so excited~~ :D
Greetings from another Canadian on the board! ;D
M'Lady Chris... as the website is still not online, I was hoping you may know! Have you any idea of the entrance fee to the new faire?
I've looked around on the home website for the people running the faire (fairesintime.com) and the only information I can find on this particular faire is as follows..
"Experience the Renaissance September 26th - 27th 2009
Written by Keith Sine

The Dates have been set for our 2009 season. We are proud to announce that we have added a Renaissance festival to our scheduled for 2009 on September 26th - 27th.
More details will be released as we finalize our entertainment, activities, merchants and theme for the day ... keep an eye on www.countryrenfest.com for more information."
And also that they are looking for volunteers to help out with things. I don't think they have a price set just now, but I doubt it will be too much- the old one we had here wasn't.
Considering I'm just part of the entertainment, it is a baaaaaaaaaad idea to ask me for specifics. As an actor, I pride myself on being a very focused on my art and on my craft... either that, or as an actor I'm easily distracted by shiny things or things that make noise.
Kelly (Kainar) and Keith (Dunedon) are board members for Faires in Time and also post here. When they have those details I'm sure they'll post them.
Okey dokey! I'm just impatient for info! Excited by the idea of a new faire ;D
*pokes Kainar & Dunedon* Give us details!!! :P
Myself and family will be there. Working on rounding up the friends too. Gotta support any effort for Ontario Renn Fests.
Sorry about the website everyone. Our webmaster just finished moving and that set his release schedule back a wee bit. The site should be up by the beginning of september. Prices are $12 an adult $8 a child and senior.
Oh this is something that I cannot believe. I am so happy. A chance to throw on the Ren gear and support the new festival. Huzzah!
It appears the website is up and I can hardly wait! Just remember, please no slaying of the dragon.
Dragons???? There will be dragons???
M'lord and I are volunteering at the Faire so be sure to stop off and say hello!
Lady Orphena & Lord Dugyn
Yippee!!! Three weeks to go. The garb I have ordered from eBay and what we have been gathering is really starting to come together. I am sure, being newbies, we will stick out like sore thumbs so please say hello.
I wonder, I will need help getting my corset on since I don't want to wear it for the two hour drive. Will there be someone there who could help me lace and teach my hubby how?
With thanks,
Hausfrau
I am sure there will be Hausfrau......I have learned how to cinch one of my corsets...but the others take some assisting....and that usually takes place in the parking lot for me :)
Where are you coming from and what time do you intend to be arriving? I am heading to Milton from Hamilton....am going to try and be there first thing.
Arianwyn
Airnwyn...We live near Collingwood and intend to stay for the whole weekend in Milton. I don't know what time we will arrive though...hopefully early. I need to get the hotel booked soon too.
We will have a dry run at Waterloo first the weekend before but that will be a quick in and out since we have to go from Collingwood to Waterloo and then all the way back to Alliston for our niece's baby shower. A short trip (negotiated very heavily) will be better than no trip at all.
The guys are pretty much set with their garb... they still need boots though... but I am still waiting for my dress and skirt to arrive. I am still hunting for a farthingale but I need the skirts to be able to fit everything together.
And it slowly comes together ... first year faires are always the hardest to organize ... we keep forgetting things :o
I've posted the draft version of the program at www.fairesintime.com so you can check it out there and download your own copy if you want :) ... It might change a bit (especially vendor locations) in the next couple of weeks, but in general it should be a fairly accurate depiction of the fun we have in store for the 26th and 27th :)
See you all in a couple of weeks (or less EEP!) - Dunedon
M'lord Dugyn & I have been asked to be a part of cast in Milton, so we'll be playing the mayor & his wife - I'll be in gold/yellow gown in hopes of impressing their majesties! As we are officially on cast (for the first time!!), we wont be able to take any pictures, so would appreciate any shots of us in action!
Hausfrau - we will be at Waterloo for the day as well - I will be the TALL lady in red with blue accents, m'lord will be wearing a grey kilt, possibly with a blue doublet.
Do stop off and introduce yourselves!
~Lady Orphena
I'm going to go to Waterloo as well, this year. It's my first time going. And I'm not on cast, so it's going to be kind of novel!
As it is Talk Like a Pirate day, I'm going to be dressed as a very purple pirate. Yay!
Dunedon - the program looks WONDERFUL !
One teeny thing - My (real) last name has changed to that of my hubby's! If you could fix it, that would be marvelous!
Thanks!
I'll see if I can catch it before it hits print Orphena ... if not, we'll definately get it the next time round ... I have a feeling you'll be in there again some time ;-)

Congrats! If you've seen my FaceBook albums, you know me... I'll be the Renaissance Paparazzi ;)
oooooooooooooooo.... the renaissance papparrazzi, I like it Lady Juliana.
;D It may not look "period" walking around in costume with a digital camera, but I love photography & having a record of the day. One of these days I'm going to make some sort of case to put over my camera & disguise it...
There was a reply in another post that I saw about digital cameras not be HA.... I think the reply went something like... it was because they were digital pixies.. :D
My garb is not HA, I tend towards a fantasy/wench.....didn't start out that way...was very HA. But the more I have travelled through the US the more I have seen that Faire is what you make it, some like to be accurate, some like to be fantasy....really, what difference does it make if you are having a good time, meeting people and just enjoying life....
just sayin' ;D
Be well.....
Arianwyn

Well, my camera has 8 Mega Pixies, so I get some pretty good pictures
How was Waterloo, everyone? I am very frustrated and angry that we could not go after all. A day that I had been waiting for for a month and a half and we had to miss it. Right to the last minute too.
We were getting dressed and mother-in-law (who lives with us) comes out and says she has chest pains... but not to worry, she will just call the ambulance and we can go on with our plans. UGGGGGGHHHHH!!! So hubby took her to the hospital and we stayed at home by the phone. The plan was to make an early morning drive to Waterloo (from Collingwood), stay until mid afternoon and then drive all the way back to Alliston for our neice's baby shower. Mother-in-law was going to be picked up by our nephew and go there mid-afternoon and then come home with us. Once the hospital said that she had a blood clot in her lung but wasn't in any danger (hurry up and wait for medication to break it up), then we carried on to Alliston only to get a call just as relatives arrived from Montreal that she was released.... sooooooo, pack everything up there and drive back to Collingwood. Turns out she has pleurisy.
We are very disappointed because no matter what the function there always seems to be an uncanny sense of timing for her to get "sick". It has happened once too often but, we know full well, just the once that we ignore her "cry wolf" then it will be something serious and we will be absolutely miserable about it.
So, we have told her that we are finding someone to "babysit" her and the animals next weekend and making a two day trip instead of only one. I am now looking for a hotel so that we can stay over. The minor issue is that our son (15) will have his girlfriend with him and it makes sleeping arrangements interesting.
But, we are very optimistic and looking very much forward to donning the garb and having fun making new friends. Sorry for the rant.... I just had to vent. Until then,
Monica
Oh dear, M'lady Monica! I was looking around yesterday & thought I must have missed you. What a shame... I feel your pain! My future mother-in-law has a tendancy to do the exact same thing ::)
Thank you for that Lady Juliana.... looking for us and sharing our dilemma. Hubby has been beside himself all day yesterday and today thinking that he has let us down. How he can think it is his fault, I don't know. I just hope and pray there are no more hitches to our attending next weekend.
Does anyone know much about the new faire....quite excited to go. Will be the last faire of the year for me. A friend of mine cancelled on me, so either day is open for me.....will all depend on the weather. My son is quite into going.....trying to get ANOTHER dagger out of me. Still unsure of the day I am going. It was cancelled earlier due to $$ issues...but all is good. Unfortunately, from what I have seen on the weather network. RAIN Saturday and light rain on Sunday.
I'm guessing (and it's only a guess) that the rain on Saturday should be later in the evening based on the rest of the weather pattern ... now I COULD be just hopeful, as I'm one of the event organizers ... but heh, someone has to be hopeful :)
The show is the same on both days, so coming one day means you won't miss out on any of the entertainment ... you can download the program at either contryrenfest.com or fariesintime.com so check it out:)

Well, just one at most.
Cornwall: Sorry in advance if my son tackles you.... :-*
Yeaaaaaaaaaaa.... only two more days until Faire!!! Soooooo excited. We tried on all of the garb again last night. I have been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and it is definitely improving... excellent news.. and we are getting a babysitter for mother-in-law and all of our animals... and the hotel is booked... the plans are all in place and we will be there with bells on (literally...I jingle!). Will there be pickles?
I checked out the website today and it is looking exceptionally well. All of the pertinent information is now there and the pictures are great too. Was that at Casa Loma?
Did I mention that I am so excited???? :D :D :D
Yes the pickle guy will be making an appearance

AHEM! But even if you don't miss any entertainment, obviously you SHOULD come on BOTH DAYS. It is a GOOD THING to come BOTH DAYS. BOOOOOOTH DAAAAAAYS.
I hope the Pickle Guy follows through and brings Kool-Aid pickles again! I'm excited to taste any of the new flavours he's going to try!

Teehee....too much fun!

Hehe, don't worry I'll be on the lookout.
I think those pictures were from Casa Loma. It's well worth going there since you have the the castle which adds a very nice touch. I couldn't make it there this year, but had a great time last year.
Yes, those were from Casa Loma and... I'm in two of them! I feel so honored!!! ;D ;D ;D (I'm the one holding the parasol in the group shots)
Juliana: I thought I recognized you in the pictures.
Okay, so I am typing something wrong I think. On my previous post whenever I ended the sentence with a question mark the angry face with the question marks plops itself in. It makes it look like I am giving a pissed off twist to my question ... which I am absolutely not. And, how do you make the previous post insert into your post and go blue please.
I have a couple hours before I have to leave for work so I want to pay the bills so that I know how much money I have left for the weekend and dig through the Christmas decorations because I know I have some more bells there. I will also be on the hunt for a feather for John and a tail at Faire.
Two more sleeps!!!!

If you use three question marks, it automatically puts in the little frowny-face confused guy.
QuoteAnd, how do you make the previous post insert into your post and go blue please.
There's three ways to do this. First and easiest is to click the "quote" button that's on the post you want to reply to. The other option is to start writing a regular reply. Below the box where you type things in are all the previous posts in the thread. Click on the "insert quote" link in whichever post you want to quote, and it will pop that in at your cursor.
Third is to write [ quote ] [ /quote ] around whatever you want to say (minus the spaces and with the quotation in between. You don't get the automatic "quote from so and so at such and such a time" stuff, though.
Monica,
At Pirate Fest, the pickle guy had some kool-aid pickles that I had named "Plague Pickles"
They were flavoured with grape kool-aid and were a gross black/purple/green colour.
They tasted fantastic! He had said at the end of the weekend that for the faire this
weekend he might try a new flavour or two, so I'm really looking forward to it!
M'lord Dugyn has his very first duel in the chess match. He's been working hard on it, so any pictures that could be shared would be most welcome!
We're looking forward to being there! Hope to see you all!!!
Faire is tomorrow!!!! Yippeeeee!!! I am just soooo tired from a long day on my feet. I will have a cup of tea, get our packing done and then early to bed so we can be up early, make lunches and be on our way to meet new friends. I can't wait to meet you all.
Chris: Thanks for the info. That makes a lot more sense now.
The pickles sound very interesting and the kids are game to try.
Off to bed soon.... I need my rest for our exciting day tomorrow. See you all soon
Huzzah for Faire!!
We're home now and I wanted to say that the whole family thoroughly enjoyed themselves at our first Faire. Well done to the organizers! We had a wonderful time.
Thank you for introducing yourself Lady Juliana. We all were feeling shy and nervous but you made us feel welcome. John changed into his garb about an hour after we arrived when he felt more comfortable. The birds of prey were very interesting, the bowing and curtsying lessons were fun too. After lunch I tried on a bodice at the Merchant's Wife....the gentleman who assisted me was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. John was so taken with the bodice that he told me not to take it off. I am very pleased with it too. Zac, our son, said that I had undone enough buttons on my chemise though ;D I know I will have lots of fun finding new ways to wear it. Unfortunately, I had to find cover when it rained otherwise the "girls" would have been far too prominent since my chemise was fairly sheer...especially when wet!
Chris... I am sorry that we didn't get to talk. Juliana pointed you out though. And I think Airnwyn was there too?
Worms! and Pickles! now take on a whole new meaning in our vocabularies. What fun :P
We took several pictures and I hope to be able to use one for my avatar.
What is the Christmas event that was in the program about? Could someone give us some more details about that. How soon will there be dates available for Faires next year?
With thanks to all for a fabulous day!
Despite the weather I had a great time there. Though I was disappointed with the rain on Saturday which prevented me from suiting up for the day. So if anyone was trying to keep an eye out for me then I'm sorry to disappoint cause I was really looking forward to having the dragon make an appearance. I was thinking of bringing a substitute along so that there would be a dragon sighting but the rain prevented from me to do that as well. I saw so many there that I recognize that I wish I had the urge to go up to them, explain to him or her who I am and show a picture that I have on my cell phone. Here's looking forward to the next Country Renaissance Festival.

Arianwyn and myself were both there with my son. I believe we may have crossed paths leaving but not entirely sure.
It was a nice little faire. Hopefully it will grow.
Glad you and your family enjoyed yourselves. If you can, definitely take in some of the faires in the US. Phenomenal.
Cheers.
Hubby and I have been talking about how much fun we had at Faire and have thought that we would like to participate in some way in order to meet more people. By participate I mean to possibly become a vendor... neither one of us has a drop of performance blood in us.
John is a welder by trade and was interested in the blacksmith that was there. He wants to bring some of his decorative wrought iron items that would be appropriate for this atmosphere. I am a chef and have been known for my traditional German pretzels. Is there a place for a strolling pretzel seller? Would I have to become a "vendor" or be under my hubby's vendor permit if he had a stall? His business has the insurance policy already in place.
Any direction in this area would be appreciated. We would have to work over the winter to get a stock base ready for next year's faires.
