Man... all the other forums are more lively than us. We need to get some stuff going.. so I thought I'd start a thread to see who's going when.
I'm hoping to get up there opening weekend, and maybe once more towards the end of August or the beginning of September.
The list!
theChuck - Aug 2, maybe again late Aug/early Sept
laedyfaire - Opening weekend, then Sundays
Caria +1 - Opening weekend
Deborah - Aug 10
Greetings..we will be there every weekend! Usually on Saturdays, some weekends we do a back to back and go both days. Our only policy of not going is if it is over 90...and humid! :) LF
I'll be returning on August 9th. NYRF was my first faire ever (even bought my first bodice and skirt there at Ophelia's), and since I'll be up just returning from Pennsic before heading back to Texas, I've been asked to bring some people this year. I've not been in a few years, so it'll be nice to go back.
We are aiming for the second week on Sunday, since Saturdays I'm at work until late. We were going to try for opening weekend, but we're still recovering from the trip to Ky and I need that extra week for extra money.
We'll be there opening Saturday. Maybe Sunday...but more likely Saturday only.
Yay! Much closer now...
do we all have our RF pins to look out for? I will wear mine on my tapestry bag...:)LF
I had to scrub my plans to attend, unfortunately... but wish you all a great season.
Maybe next year I'll make it back to NYRF

I am usually in the company of several people, but two of us are R/F.com'ers. I usually wear mine on my left shoulder above a fae pin. The other is a Scot, and he wears his on his drape.
Boo. Change of plans. Family graduation party scheduled for that day so, sadly, no faire for me this year.

aw, bummer. have fun!
I can't commit to a date, we usually hit the faire on the way to mommy's place in Oneonta, and I have to schedule that with them. Have to book that when bro isn't going to be there, his family is random chaos :P and we go for peace and R&R.
So, probably mid August, but can't swear to it.
Anybody want to point me to the vendor of the RF pin?
Um.. get in touch with Deadbishop. He's the one who orders the pins, so he can tell you.
I plan on being there as many days as I can this year. Now that being said I don't know if they will be Saturdays or Sundays, my boss can't decide which one is going to be my "normal" scheduled day to work. I wish he would just make me Monday through Friday. I will be their opening weekend, but again which day I wont know till that week.
I spoke through email yesterday with Heavy Metal Dee and there are now plans in the works for the Double Dee's to stomp the grounds of NYRF opening weekend one day. It's not set in stone yet or which day it'll be but I can't wait for her and I to cause some Chaos on site again!
well, the first weekend, hopefully both days. then after that I think we will go on Sundays instead of Saturdays. Seems a bit less crowded, at least until 2 or so.
i hope to get there one of the weekends. so much going on right now at the same time. we have the sterling faire, then NYRf, then the Pennslyvannia ren faire, and in between trying to keep up a a huge 7 acre yard, take care of two horse, dogs, a four year old, and and a new puppy. Plus mom and dad said they may come visit, although we also owe them a visit down their way too. But i sure want to get to NYRF this year.
Well this past year NYRF was my very first faire ever! It was amazing. And my friends and I do hope to go back this year. We will most likely only go once because we don't exactly have the money to pay for the gas to go every weekend. It will most likely be in September and most likely be on a Saturday. But once I get the date more narrowed down, I'll let you know!
:D
I can't wait for faire!
Trying to see if it will be either Labor Day Weekend or Sept. 6-7 here. A lot depends on finances and other logistical adventures, called how to get from the City to an Inn to the Forest and back again (Sterling-in-the-Forest requires a full weekend to go and invade to the hearts content). This will be the third season I have taken the Mrs. up north. The last two times (2005 & 2006) it was much easier as I was employed the first time, and the second the finances weren't nightmarish. This time I am teetering to the good side after teetering on the bad side for 2007 and not being able to afford to go for even one day at all.
Here's to hoping that others are coming from near enough my part of the City to make this all happen while all the while cutting enough corners to not be accused of cheating at cards. lol
My family and I will be up on Opening Day only. See ya' Saturday!
If the planets align correctly, I too will be there opening day. The dice be not weighted one way or the other.
Got my tickets. . .got my hotel room. . . cameras are ready. . . . let's get medieval!
oh man, i'm so torn.. it looks like (http://www.accuweather.com/forecast-details.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=1&zipcode=10987&metric=0&fday=3) it's going to be cloudy/rain/thuderstorm on saturday. i'm aiming to go, but if it's gonna be really miserable... :[
Hope to go this weekend, Not sure yet. Hopefully Sat if not I hope to make a run on Sunday. I need to get a photo on here again, but when I go with my kids we're hard to miss. We dress similarly in Robin Hood style. All have bows, matching quivers, matching garb, but this year Angel Baby may be a princess. If I'm alone I'm told that I am still hard to miss.
I am delighted to report that I have survived the cuts and I will be telling stories in the Storyteller's Nook every festival day. The Storyteller's Nook is well hidden in the Sterling Forest somewhere behind the Blue Boar Inn. I'll be there every afternoon from noon thirty until four o'clock.
So glad to hear that Brother Donald. I hope to see you there tomorrow.
Anyone else going?

Ahh! I think I walked by this - I saw someone sitting there talking with a bunch of people sitting around him - that must have been it LOL!
I will catch it on Saturday! Only a few more hours until the weekly dose of Faire!
Hi, I am new my family and I have gone to the NY faire 2 times we plan on going on Aug 17th.

I know, it was a perfect day! I'm going back Sunday lol
I went on Sat, the 8th, what a beautiful day. It was warm but not too hot. Anice cool breeze every now and then, it was great. An excellent day for Faire.
Brother Donald, I walked by and saw you. You were telling stories. We listened for awhile then were going to come back. Next thing I knew it was time to go. Time sure flies when you're having Faire. Hopefully I'll get to talk to you next time.
Well my friend bailed on me Saturday, so I didn't go. I feel too weird going totally alone! I need at least one person to hang around lol. But I roped someone into going Sunday so off we went. Another great day. I got to see more shows this time - having been a bit better planned - but I still missed most of the Robin Hood vs Sheriff story. I want to go one day and just follow all the scenes of them from start to finish.
Also..did anyone see the Ninja..lol
hmm.. we were there sunday also, but missed the ninja. when we first started going we would follow the story line throughout the day. it is fun. now we mostly follow the music around. our faves are the mystic minstrels. have you seen them yet?
did you stay for the pub sing? we were there. it was a great day, weather wise. the crowd seemed pretty good too..large, but not overwhelming.
two things:
1. laedyfaire, any tips on prepping for the pub sing? i know the usual drinking songs, but perhaps not everything they sing...
2. i was thinking of heading up in either late august or early september. maybe we can plan to all meet up then?

Yeah the Ninja was at the Sheriffs Chess Game and had his picture taken with Robin hood later - which was pretty funny to see. He was very seriously about his Ninja-ness though.
I was at the pub sing, I was standing on the side, right where Robin Hood was giving drinks to the guy in chains being brought in lol.
I wish I could understand the lyrics but I catch all the words to that last song they do. All I understand is "if you haven't been out on a Saturday night you haven't been out at all"
I try to stay to the very end, I like the pub sing at the end!
I will be returning on Saturday - I think I should by the season pass though , paying each weekend is adding up fast lol

Meeting sounds good - What do you garb as Chuck? I wonder if I've seen you all before but just never realized it was you lol. I probably have I spend the whole day at that place.
Has anyone thought about trying out for the Journeyman thing?
heh. i just have a green doublet and black pants and boots. nothing out of the ordinary, really. :/
i heard that song when i was there the other week; turns out it's a much dirtier song (http://www.geocities.com/squadron400/balls.htm) than the one they sing.
my daughter and i have had that song stuck in our heads since sunday..that and the one philip hole sang..not the words though..thank goodness! :)
thechuck..the only thing i would suggest to do to prepare for the pub sing is to have a drink! :) their songs are pretty random, some are the old stand bys and some are new.
lord robert..buy the queens pass.. we would not do the journeyman thing b/c it is too much of an obligation. maybe if we were younger and lived closer. sounds like fun though.
sat. we are heading down with our oldest son, his wife and the grandchildren and her parents, so it will be their call as to what we do. we will most likely be at the pub sing though.
Well for my first venture into the realm of garbing I'm sticking with a simple robe.
I look at some of the outfits people wear and wonder just how much they spend on this stuff. I mean I saw some really incredible outfits worn. Just based on the prices I see online and at the shops for stuff.. $50 for pants.. $120 for boots.. $30-100 for a pouch, $50 for a belt, $40-$80 for a shirt, $150 for a cloak.. Not to mention the tankards, pins, bracers, and other little trinkets - and forget about it when you get into armor and swords!
I can only guess what the women must be paying for their outfits lol
Well I will be there Saturday, hopefully can get a friend to come with me. So if I see you nowhere else I will certainly be at the pub sing!
I just spotted a wet chemise contest on the schedule too LOL!! Spring Break in the renaissance? I have to go see that ! LOL!
robert: i don't meant to be a buzzkill, but unless you've got a lot of cash just kicking around, id advise you not to jump into the deep end on this. those prices are somewhat correct, but you can do better, especially if you're just starting out. for example, i don't really think you need a cloak in addition to all the other stuff; it's gonna be really heavy and during the summer it might be excessive.
my advice would be to really sit down and figure out what sort of look you're going for.
Oh I know, it's way too expensive for clothes I'd only be wearing a few weekends out of the year LOL. I will build it up slowly. Though in the beginning I'm going to look pretty pathetic with my half-unauthentic garb collection lol
Great song link - now I finally understand what they are saying LOL
