Named after my grandfather, Nikola.  My name means "victorious maiden" in translation.  My birth certificate states my name as "Nickie," but the Catholic church saw it differently and asked my mother for a more feminine name when I was baptised, she chose "Nicolette."  Either is legal.  Family legend has it that after the priest poured the holy water on my forehead, I said, "Let's get the hell out of here!"  (I was much older than usual at a Catholic baptism, due to my mother's illness at the time).

My second run-in with the church was when I was confirmed.  I wanted to use "Francis," as Francis of Assisi was the one I most resonated with, with his kindness to the birds and the beasts.  Once again, I was ordered to make a choice from the feminine.  So I chose Bernadette, since she had all of those awesome visions and was brave enough to tend to lepers.  So my Catholic name is "Nicolette Bernadette." :D

First name Renee means "reborn."  As I was 5 years ago when I received a kidney donation and got a second chance at life.  My kidneys were functioning at 8% at the time of the transplant, 0% is death.

Middle name Anne.  Per a website giving the meaning of names:  short form of names beginning with the Germanic element arn "eagle".

So I guess I am a born again eagle.

Let's see.....

Michael
~From the Hebrew name "Mikha'el" meaning "Who is like God?". This is a rhetorical question, implying no person is like God. Saint Michael was one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers.~

Daniel
~From the Hebrew name "Daniyyel" meaning "God is my judge". Daniel was a Hebrew prophet whose story is told in the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament. He lived during the Jewish captivity in Babylon, where he served in the court of the king, rising to prominence by interpreting the king's dreams. The book also presents Daniel's four visions of the end of the world.~

WOW! That's a LOT of Biblical mumbo-jumbo given that I can't remember the last time I was in a church and if I did set foot in one, it would probably come tumblin' down!!  ::) ;D

Elennare means star fire in Sindarin.

...ok, so, technically that's improper syntax and it actually reads "fire star," but I took a little poetic liberty because I liked Elennare better than Narelen.

First name: Justin,
Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, French, Slovene
Pronounced: JUS-tin (English), zhoo-STEN (French)  [key]

From the Roman name Iustinus, which was derived from JUSTUS. This was the name of several early saints including Justin Martyr, a Christian philosopher of 2nd century who was beheaded in Rome.

Links to...

JUSTUS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Ancient Roman
Roman family name which meant "just" in Latin.

Middle Name: Charles,

From the Germanic name Karl, which was derived from a Germanic word which meant "man". However, an alternative theory states that it is derived from the common Germanic element heri meaning "army, warrior".
The popularity of the name in continental Europe was due to the fame of Charles the Great (742-814), commonly known as Charlemagne, a king of the Franks who came to rule over most of Europe.

Last name: Banner  Scratch that, the family name was Bubanovic before the court changed it.

Won't find Bubanovic on any name listing, but family tradition holds that it means either Big Noise or Loud Drum.

Aparently, I come from a loud family.

putting it all together:  I'm a just man who will fight for what I belive (justus) and will won't shy away from being loud about it. 8)
This is not boing to help my value based superiority complex at all    ;) :P

Here are what the names mean for my daughter (now 22 months old) and son (now 28 days old):

Abigail- a father's pride/joy (Hebrew)
Keelia- beautiful (Gaelic)
A beauty that brings her father pride - she already has me wrapped around her finger!

Evan- Young warrior
Lucas- of the light
Young warrior of the Light - a good Paladin name, no?

As for Armstrong, it was a name given for strength in battle. Historians relate the following:
An ancient king of Scotland had his horse killed under him in battle.  His armor-bearer (until this moment named Fairbairn) immediately dismounted, and single handedly lifted the fully armored king by the thigh, and set him on the saddle of his own horse.  For this timely assistance he amply rewarded him with lands on the borders, and to perpetuate the memory of so important a service, as well as the manner in which it was performed, his royal master gave him the appellation of Armstrong.

Although my first name, Thomas, means "twin," as someone previously stated, but my first and middle name together have a special meaning. I was named "Thomas Hale" after my dads' best friend. They joined the service together prior to WWII, served together in the Philippines, and were both captured by the Japanese. Both survived the Bataan Death March, but Tommy did not survive the POW camp.

My last name, Bertram, means "bright raven" and has a Germanic origin. Almost all of my ancestors were from Prussia and surrounding countries.

I forgot to include my last name Machcinski, which has several different spellings depending on which part of Poland your in, but it means poppyseed. So my whole name translated from the Hebrew-David-meaning beloved, the Greek-Thomas-meaning twin, and the Polish-Machcinski-meaning poppyseed. And my name is beloved twin poppyseed. The last name probably pertaining to the many poppy fields in Poland where opium was a very common drug for recreational and medicinal use, and my ancestry was probably part of the farming or sale of opium/poppies.

Post by: Alexandra Johanna on September 09, 2011, 03:09:01 AM
My mundane name is Alexandra. I was named after my father, Alexander, which means "Defender of Man". Supposedly my mother was expecting twins (I have never gotten a good reason out of her as to why she would be expecting twins) so they only had twin names picked out and she didn't want to use any of them when only me showed up. I was their last child and they had no sons, so they went with Alexandra. My mother hated this name though and called me Sandy instead.  I also have no middle name, I only have an initial, which is J. My dad has a middle name, a Flemish form of John, which he shortened to just J. when they came to the USA.

I've always liked Alexandra, yet hardly anyone I know calls me that. Thanks Mom! LOL
