Nope, I don't get it either. My first thought is "Bad Loaner Garb". As for the song itself, makes about as much sense as many of the other hot tunes of that time.

The song was about being free and able to dance in mosh pits at the coming about of punk rock.
Cool, I always loved mosh pits and the song but somehow I don't think the pit would be the same with Safety dance playing....lol.....
I will always remember the fist of mohawk guy coming at me and then waking up on the floor with 50 people stomping on me the first time I entered the pit at the 7th street entry. Baptism by fist, foot and blood. Reminded me of rugby. ;D
