Title: Serendipity Haven
Post by: alyria stargazer on June 13, 2008, 04:52:18 PM
Serendipity Haven Invites You!!!

Do you enjoy working at festivals or have you always wanted to be involved with a faire from the ground up? Or do you simply enjoy getting dressed up and partaking in good food, friends and shows? Well very soon we are going to be having several festivals and Events all at the same location, and we would love to invite you into our family!

Mission Statement:
Serendipity Haven is bringing Fantasy and Fun back to Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville TX. We aim to create a place for people of all walks of life to have a common ground to come together have a wonderful experience and make new friends. We want to create experiences that will stay with you for the rest of your life and the life of your children in the future days to come. We will be catering not only Renaissance Community but also to the Pagan Community, Green Organizations, Children's Organizations, Family Events, as well as hosting Reunions, Soul Joinings and other types of Social Gatherings. This will be a home for you, a home for me and a home for anyone else who wants to come together with their brothers and sisters and just have a good time doing something they love!

Who we are:
G.M. Bill Slette
Asst. G.M. Alyria Stargazer
Artistic Director Chameleon Dreams
Entertainment Coordinator Kaade
Weddings and Special Events Coordinator Jaime Olson
Web Master Milan Krakora
Graphics Adviser Fran Hunter

--------------------------------------

Schedule Of Events:

First off,
Every 3rd Saturday of the month we are having overnight Drum Jams that we are calling Rhythm and Stars. So bring your tent some mead and a musical instrument and join us under the stars and next to the bonfire =) This is an excellent opportunity to get the public aware of the fact that we are getting things going again at Rocky Hill and for any prospective vendors or entertainers to get to know eachother and discuss the world of Faire. This is a BYO- Everything Event and there is a $5.00 fee per person that covers camping, parking and access to any activities or entertainment we may have planned for the evening. All proceeds go to improvement of the grounds and preparing for future Faires and events.

Second, our first festival is a One day Faerie Bazzar to be held on June 28th. We know it is short notice but providence has smiled and made events go faster than expected and we think we are ready =) . Next year it will be a full blown Faerie Festival but this year we are going to wet our feet with an open air Faerie Bazzar of unique hand crafted items and wandering Faeries and musicians. There will be NO ADMISSION to this event, but there is a $5.00 camping fee per person.
We will have Crafters, Merchants, Artists and Entertainers to make this a Magical experience!

The next will be a Fantasy Festival that will be held the first 3 weekends of September. The first 2 weekends will be open to all and will have fun themes. We are thinking maybe a Cavelier/Musketeer Days or maybe a Dress as your favorite Famous Fantasy Character... but we are going to try something a little different and make the last weekend an 18 and up Pirate Invasion! Yar!! =) Still a work in progress but if you have any questions at all do not hesitate to ask! We will answer as best as we can.

We are also contemplating a One weekend Christmas Festival in early December, but have not made a concrete decision as of yet.

We are Scheduling a Spring Festival the first 3 weekends of March in 2009 and we will improve upon our existing festivals from there.

We are currently seeking Merchants, Demonstrators, Food Vendors and Entertainers to join us on our journey in creating venues for those who enjoy all things Faire. We are always looking for suggestions from you the people who make the
Faire go Round =)

--------------------------------------

We are looking for Vendors and Entertainment of all kinds.

For the Faerie Bazzar/Festival we are, of course, looking for goods along the lines of Faeries and Fantasy. We also prefer handcrafted items but will still accept a small percentage of imports. Since we are having a Fantasy Festival the first 3 weekends of Sept. and the first 3 weekends of March we have plenty of room for everyone to come and play! We don't want to exclude anyone from joining our family and having a good time so we are interested in anyone who is interested in us!

As for food, in my opinion you can never have enough variety at any festival! We are looking for the main staples, turkey legs, baked potatoes, Corn on the knob... but we are also looking for Kettle Corn, Ice cream, baked goods, coffee, candies and chocolates, Greek and Mediterranean cuisines... anything that would appeal to you will appeal to someone else is what we are thinking and with all the venues we will eventually be having we know there will be a place for everyone!

Entertainment goes along the same lines. In fact I am planning the last weekend of the Sept. faire to be an 18 and up event so we can have a few more bawdy shows then would normally be accepted at a regular faire. I have a 2 year old that I love bringing to Faire with me but sometimes its nice to run around and be a little extra crazy without having to worry about scaring some poor child for life =P. This does NOT mean there will be Drunken Naked Debauchery all around but people can loosen up a bit more without fear of upset mothers ganging up on them at the Privies =)

You can email me or call me at any time if you have any questions. I would love to talk to anyone who would like to be apart of something wonderful, or just wants to hang out and do a little drumming.  Hopefully we will all get the chance to hang out and have some fun soon!

--------------------------------------

Advertising:

We will be putting out fliers as soon as possible (Friday) in Austin (Saturday in Elgin) and will be getting them out to "Faire Friendly" Shops in places Like San Marcos, San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston soon!! We will hopefully be getting a billboard up in the near future along with adds in the papers! If you would like I am also linking as many "Faire-minded" people as I can to our website so if this interests you let me know =)

--------------------------------------

Volunteers Program

We are looking for people with spare time and the willingness to stick it out till we can pay them what they are worth. As it stands we are a "Tips and Tapes" festival but I am in the process of getting Investors, Sponsors and Grants lined up to help with all of that. The outpour of people wanting this to happen has been much higher than expected so we are asking that you bear with us through the first few events till we can give everyone their proper dues and get everything settled into its proper place. I know that several other faires have come and gone in the last few years due to lack of funds and I want everyone to know that that will not be the case here. It just takes time for the applications and what not to go through and for the proper channels to be accessed. We can make it on our own till then and want to give people a festival to attend as soon as possible.
If you are interested in joining our Volunteer Program contact Alyria Stargazer.

YAY! You friended me on MySpace and I am really excited about this. Only thing is that the Bazaar will be taking place the day of the Austin AARG. I could go to the bazaar during the day and go to the AARG that night but it would make for a long day.

I will have to see if I can make it to anything else. Might carpool with someone.

Ooo OOOooo OOOOoooOOOOoo

PLEASE!!!!!
Can I come too!!!!

I am free the 28th during the day but will also be attending the AARG that night. Only thing is that I will be with out Chris, he has work that day. However if we can plan it to where I can go and we can get to the AARG and not waste a bunch of gas with me going to Meow Manner then to Dog and Ducks, because if that happens chris will have to take his truck downtown and it guzzles gas. Not much money to spare for that.

Can we find a way to where I don't have to drive and he can take my car to work for the day and someone can tote me around everywhere. Then at the AARG he can come in my car and we can then go home together from there?

I dont know of anyone who is willing to come get me though.... Unless Bear or Molden go and pick me up on their way out to Smithville. It is still a little out of their way to get me... :(

Any one willing?

(Did I just make ANY since?  ??? :P ;D )

Back from Serendipity Haven! It is well named!  Huzzah and hugs to all that made this happen.  This was my first time as a vendor and I actually sold several crystals and a wand! MMM$$$  There was a breeze and the heat did not find us under the ancient oak trees.  There was a pub and food and a nice assortment of vendors and a 7 piece band from Denton and Kade playing and I sang one song- memories of the Bedlam Bards!  People were camping and much merriment was had. There were such good vibes at the old Excal site- I can only see this getting more exciting and growing. I sure plan to go again in Sept. And Bear brought his cooler and mug in! So did I. I saw old friends and met new friends! This is a fun faire! Looking forward to MORE!
So is my evil twin! They are doing an 18 and older pirate invasion in Sept!  My Sis will be up for that- yo ho! I encourage all in the Austin area to give this faire your support.  I have a smile on my face this night!

But of course ;D!! We've been bustin our butts trying to make the place look as pretty as we can. We had a day of rain and it was awesome but just a tease. Everything is so dry up here. But its all coming together so nicely. Now all I need is for the vendors to set up and then fill it with music and laughter and smiling faces! ;)

Alyria and Bill have both poured themselves into getting ready to open! They both deserve so much for all their hard work.

It may still be small but every faire has to start some where right? Everyone can say they were at Serendipity back in the day when it was a small faire and we can swap stories of "I remember when there was only 1 food vendor and water was just $1."

:)

It was great to hear all the laughing, the music and to see the kids run around playing with eachother.

Huzzah to Serendipity Haven! The magick is still there! This faire ROCKS!
For a small faire this one is off to a wonderful start! I sold well. There was nonstop entertainment- Bedlam Bards , Belly Dancers, Scott Boswell and his band- (OK they need a name I can spell- Irish walking stick)Kaade, and on Sat a fantastic magician!Even I sang a few songs!
There was archery and beautiful horses, good food and BYOB.
I am tired from Vending- but it was such fun. I think most of the vendors did OK! There was a good mix of vendors.
Great job!Fun Faire!  The magick leftover from the Old Excal lingers- but Serendipity Haven is making it's own New magick!

The opening weekend of Serendipity Haven was this past weekend and it was fantastic. The site is beautiful, and the people running the faire are true rennies who do all they can to make sure we all have a good time. I had the best turkey leg I've ever had. I was going to try the stuffed potato cause I heard good things about it, but I didn't get a chance, so I'll get one this coming weekend. Plus, roasted corn. Yummy.

Amy and I were vendors for the first time and we did good, in fact we did better than we had thought we would. We sold lots of stuff and bought some excellent t-shirts. Saw lots of performers entertaining. We do need to get lots more people out there, of course, so everyone come on out and have a great time. Years from now, you'll want to be able to say you attended Serendipity Haven it's first season.

I'll be shooting for the 20th myself, hopefully as a vendor. My dear Queen Bonnie, I hope we don't intrude too much on each other's commerce! I've got staffs and wands too, after all! I'll hope to see you all there.

Lady Jessica....I've got a massive vehicle for carrying camping gear and people. PM me if you plan on camping. I'm near DT Houston. We could set up a caravan or carpool, either way. I'm planning on both days.

I am just hoping Ike doesn't hit hard out there this weekend.
Last I checked, it hits the coast in the middle of the Texas coast then aims at San Antonio/Austin area
With just a bit of luck, it wont make it that far until after closing Sunday
[edit] Just re-checked the storm. This thing doesn't like being predicted. Now it turns North and should skirt right past with the faire on the "good" side. It'll be cruising past during the day Saturday so some showers and possible bigger storms could happen, but not as bad as last nights predictions were. Let's hope it stays that way. [/edit]

I'll be out there the weekend after with mah clan(s). Some days... I wonder why I am in so many of them lol

*I know why... they gives me rum sometimes... I like that part of the clans*

According to the storm on our horizon, I may skip this weekend. It looks like it may pass just west or right over Smithville. Hopefully it'll go South, but most models aren't looking good. I'm used to storms and they don't bother me in the house, but in a tent? That's not my personal idea of fun.

Will pay close attention, though.

I'm doing everything I can to steer it South, I know that!

After due consideration for the safety of all involved and an impending threat of 100% rain and 100mph winds we will unfortunately be closing the gates of Serendipity Haven to the public this coming weekend (13th-14th)....
We will be back on schedule the following weekend for the Pirate Invasion and the response has been great !!!

I want to take the time to apologize for not being on more since opening and thank all who came out to support us in this new endeavor. We can't do it without you the patron and we had a great weekend. thanks for all the great pics and the wonderful memories! If you would like to contact me with questions, requests or comments do not hesitate.. just give me a day or two to respond as this has put a serious dent in our schedule and we are working out the kinks...
This is truly an unfortunate event but if like me you are a fan of that movie you know that they can always lead to a wonderful adventure and a happy ending =) Till next we meet...

See you on the inside..

Ok! Who is coming for final weekend? I will be there!- or my Evil pirate twin will - if she and her Scurvy Cat ship have not been blown away!
I will sell her pirate beads- but she has to sell my wands and crystals!

We're still planning to come out (our evil twins, anyway) as long as there's gas available in the Elgin area (we're staying at Meow Manor).  The twins need some time away from the coast while their ship gets repaired after being blown ashore by Ike (in sooth, that's complete fiction - we are fine, just without power for the moment).  Not sure if we're doing both days, but definitely Saturday.  Very much looking forward to a much-needed change of pace!!

I want to go...and it's so close to where I live...but it's adults only and I don't think my son would like it very much if we went to a faire without him...guess I will just save my money for TRF...

Spent the afternoon out yesterday having a blast celebrating my boy's 19th birthday
Also brought 4 propane bottle to be sent down to those rennies in need from Ike
And... left my phone in the parking lot. Rennie's to the rescue! I called Andi, they sent out a search crew, found it and called me back and are dropping it off to me tonight. Rennies Rock!

*Much rum and loki was sampled there at the end... could explain the phone falling from my pouch*

 Now we need PICTURES!
It was such FUN.
I had a great time and saw many old friends. Actually made $$$ and sold well. Nice to know people like what I have been creating! My evil twin did well with her pirate beads too.  I also got to perform! Pirate Karaoke anyone? LOL! I love singing.
That site has such good vibes. Sad tis over- but now can gear up for March! I know I will return to S.H.
Hugs to all who helped make this a great start for what promises to be a wonderful faire!

I enjoyed spending Sunday at Serendipity Haven.

While there, I got to visit with Queen Bonnie's evil twin pirate sister... ;) ...and heard some good musicians and singers, as well.

Also bought a Chainmail Necklace (Black/Blue anodized aluminum) made by PapaGnome/Scolaighe/Mike.  It's pretty cool, and lightweight, too.

Looking forward to next March.

Take Care,

Greetings Ren Friends,
Our apologies for the long delay in getting word out about the festival but we wanted to wait until we knew the outcome of the legal negotiations that are underway.
As you were all aware, we were having difficulties during the Festival with the land owner and those leasing the land from him. After the Festival ended, things seemed to be getting better. We got a contract and started planning for next season, but then things got much worse and it is with heavy hearts we must let you all know that we will no longer be at Rocky Hill Ranch. Serendipity Haven must be postponed until we have found a new home. Elvin is looking for land and, when he is able, intends to start again in a better place on land that will be ours. We are currently looking more towards Sana Antonio.
We thank you all for the support, understanding, and encouragement you showed us in our struggles to make a Fairer that could be enjoyed by all involved. We feel that we have done something quite worthwhile, and look forward to seeing you all once more as we gather to celebrate the wonderful world we cherish.
Please keep in touch with any helpful information or ideas you might have to offer. We are still learning, and your input is valuable to us. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or criticism on the subject we welcome it all as we will be doing this in the future. If you are hesitant in joining us again we understand but we will be opening the gates of a new festival in the future and want all our family to be involved in it one way or another.
Please contact us anytime for anything. I like to think that we all became good friends, made good memories and gained new Family this past season and I don't want the current circumstances to halt any blossoming friendships. I hope to see you all at TRF last weekend and that you had a good time at Serendipity Havens Opening year.   I know that I speak for Bill and Chameleon as well when I say that we couldn't have done it without you and will be in contact so you will know what is going on in the future. I will apologize once again and let you go with a tear and a smile because we did something great and brought a little magic to the world however brief. Thank you once more, but not the last... we will let all of you know more about our future plans as things progress.
For the time being you will find us at the new festival, Sherwood Forest, getting ready for opening year in 2010. We believe they are going to have a lovely Fairer and can't wait to be a part of it.
For information go to their website
sherwoodforestfaire.com
Hope to see you all there.
Peace, love and prosperity to you all... Ne'er above you, Ne'er below you, always
beside you...  Namaste'....

Thanks and hugs to you all for all the hard work and putting together a  Fantastic small faire. Hopefully it will come together again! Anything I can do? Let me know! It was a very positive experience for me! Thank all of you!

Just found this and I'm so sorry to hear it Alyria, I know that you and the team you were working with had worked so hard and did really put on a nice little faire with a lot of promises. I know that no matter where you and your team goes, you will accomplish things. I'll look forward to seeing you soon, whether it be at a get-to-gether or it be at Sherwood in a year.
