Title: The Myths and Legends of Rendezvous
Post by: Lairde Guardn on May 27, 2008, 09:18:53 AM
I am sure that this thread has been needed for some time, and maybe we did have it before, but here is the place to start it over.    Now that the 3rd Rendevoux has taken place, we should remember to insert the year and place of the rendevoux story being told....

The rest is up to you all.......

So to start this

The year was 2008 at TNRF......

Watching the Ettes "Wench" Stephan..............Not really much to the story other than Stephan is wheelchair bound and severly medically challanged.   After a tumble from his chair and a bad stomach from trying to join with the group for a beer, the Ettes decided the young man needed a good wenching.......

Thank you so much, it was a great moment and he and his wife said later, that they had not had that much fun in a very long time.

Just a great Rendevoux moment and should also be in the random act of kindness top 10.

I can't confirm this .... but I heard 10 lads killed a keg of Guinness in 3.5 hours .... that must be some kind of record, wish I were there ...

*what*

... I was there? I can't seem to remember this for some reason ....  ??? ;D :o

I would like to second Lairde Guard'n's thanks for Steven's wenching. He is my nephew-in-law, and he has been in declining health for several years, now. He is only 30 years old, and we don't have any idea how much longer he will be with us. I really don't think he has much fun anymore, but with us he could cut loose. He actually fell out of his wheelchair and puked in the trash can, and the crowd responded with enthusiam! Of course, it was pointed out the most of us have done the same, at one time or another, so no one was making fun of him. And in addition, I would very much like to say thank you to all of the lovely ladies who wenched Steven. For you to jump in there and do something like that for someone you don't even know, means so much to me. I know for a fact that it was one of the highlights of his life, and he will never forget it. I also understand that this is just the kind of people that you are, and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you. I feel so fortunate to have you all in my life. Thank you again.
Love always.

I was speaking with the liquor rep at TNRF on Sunday.  He told me that almost 70 kegs of beer were consumed on Saturday the 24th. He also informed me that with attendance #'s on Saturday ON the average kegs consumed are in the mid to high forties.

Let's not forget a record amount raised for RESCU...more than $1600!  Once again I was escorted by Leinad and then...I escorted HIM!  Who'd have thought.

My first game of Musical Men...I wasn't even gonna play...but I Won!

I had another chance to "De-Flower" Biggerstaff!!!  Hanging out at Louis' cart and with the SMASH fellas at their stand.  Watching my daughter be "cute" for the first time EVER!!!  (She's usually the mean character in the cast)

Seeing Bacardi in a PAIR OF SHORTS!!!  That's right, SHORTS!

Capt. Spleen and his NUNSENSE!  Capturing some really interesting faces this year (they'll be online as soon as possible).

Putting Shacles on BLUE.

Getting a rubber duckie from Cutie Patootie (that would be Athena's name for Red Jack)

Throwing axes with Bacardi...we were pretty even.  No winners there but lots of fun.

- arriving at 4am to a bleary-eyed LJ who half-swaggered and half-staggered to let me into my room.

- starting out Saturday in Masque... and having several friends not recognize me!

- "The Four Horsemen Stage Show"

- finding out my cape can do the cool "Batman" thing when a lady needs privacy  :o

- having the same cape used as a backdrop for photos!

- joining Clan McCrack

- pinning Erik the Green as a Rogue

- how the gang pulled together when that kid went missing

you know, there were so many great moments but truthfully... the best part was seeing so many old friends again, getting to spend more time with them, and meeting some for the first time.  the best part of any invasion is... well... the invaders!

Much as I enjoy simply seeing all my renfriends so hale and hearty (and many in beautiful new garb  ;D), there were a couple of stand-outs this year.

Meeting Queen Bonnie really made faire for me this year. It was a WONDERFUL surprise to run into her while waiting for the auction to begin. Truly magical. Thanks for making the trip, Queen Bonnie.

Hugs with John. Little was said but much remembered about the growth of this site and the changes it's been through.

FINALLY meeting Sir Jess Lady Knight. Sheesh, she lives in the same state and has been at faire the same days as me for the past two years but we never managed to run into each other! It was wonderful to hear how she's doing and her plans for the future.

Escarlata bringing me and Lady Nicolette a cactus she had planted in the Healing Place on the old site.

Combined, these brief exchanges gave me a strong feeling of being part of the R/F family.  :-*

The handfasting was lovely. Seeing Escarlata in scarlet.  ;D  The hush as we awaited her arrival (from a group not known for hushing) said much about people's anticipation and respect. Did anyone else see the hawk that breezed over during the ceremony--or was I hallucinating? I thank Esc and Leinad for allowing us all to attend.

The ette/teer auction. The pythonesque squeaky-voiced, habit-wearing mystery bidder for the queen adding spam to his bids. The intense bidding for the queen. The bids for $69 and $34.50 for/from ettes/teers.  :D

All in all, an experience that was more than faire. Huge thanks to our hosts and to all who made the effort to attend.

That was unforgettable! She looked so beautiful, and I started getting all teary eyed.

Another favorite moment was when Old Tinker and Belle finally met Queen Bonnie. Also, proudly wearing Bonnie's favor, a tribute to Lord A. It's true that the Magick never dies, and it was everywhere last weekend!

Let's see...

Spending time at Lady Nicolette's.
The bartender at Bluesboro...amazing what you can get for a wink and a smile!

Waking up and finding two bottles of champagne at the front door buried in the sand.
Getting through the auction...and seeing a nun and the first words out of my mouth were, 'Oh. My. Gawd.'
Raising over 1600.00 for RESCU
Musical Men and getting whomped by Queen Bonnie! Because you can't push and shove our Queen...
Sharing the spumante and 'returning' the empty the next day.

Tailgating with mimosas and croissants...
The handfasting. Looking over at Lord Jarhead tearing up a bit (YES, YOU DID TOO!) and then looking at Molden who winked and grinned at me and made me start giggling....

Dinner at Chef Wang's where Laird took over like he was storming the beach at Normandy!
I actually felt sorry for the manager!
Having Porter come up behind me and start singing 'Freebird'.
The entire room singing 'A Health to the Company.'

Watching Mad Jack dash across the benches and not even spilling a drop of his rum....The monsoon on Monday and seeing two full moons come out in the daylight.
And wondering who will pay for those kids' therapy.

There is lots more...

But mostly spending time with those who are dear to me.
THAT was priceless.

Meeting a world full of new friends (If you all could even fathom what this weekend meant to me - you gave Lucy life again and reminded me why I love faire!)
Spending time with old ones
Hugs and kisses....
especially kisses....   :-*
Loki anyone?
Being talked into coming back Monday by an army of attentive men (and women)
Wenching!!!!
Watching musical men (I'm in next time...minus the hoop of doom!)
Ditching my escort Monday and getting caught without one...lol
Getting a personally delivered rose :D
Really loud burping
A great photo op
Remembering that one of my co-workers was there...lol
Chef Wang's and my boy toy...lol, he went so willingly!
Everything...just everything.

I'll miss you all so much!  I can't wait until we invade again!

The first thing that I'll remember will be being the first victim of faire before the faire even started! Nothing quite like fainting in a bar with 75 new friends. Especially, when you've only had 2 or 3 drinks. Watch out for those small power shots you can buy at the convenience store. The fairmily came to the rescue with plenty of help long before the ambulance showed, only to be told I'm okay and leave. We had a great time the rest of the night. Course it was hard getting a drink after that. On Saturday we had the great surprise of seeing Queen Bonnie and I helped (shelve) the banner at opening gate for a few pics. Spending the day with friends old and new, the auction and musical men. On Sunday we had to leave early due to our vacation time, but we were able to attend the beautiful handfasting of Escarlata and Leinad. I had a great week in all and truly enjoyed spending time at faire with so many fairmily. I'm still playing major catch up here, but have some pics to try and get posted.

I read through everything quickly, but I didn't see:    Two kilted Teers standing in the middle of a downpour on Monday treating everyone in the tent to the family jewels.  Including the 2 teenage couples who were about 15 and they just about fainted.

Nights after faire at Lady Nicolette's house with great company, delicious food, and lots of libations.

The wonderful Teer who presented me with my first rose.  He was so gallant!

I became an Ette that weekend.

Sitting in the first aid tent on Monday with Queen Bonnie, Lady Nicolette, Athena, and me wearing ice packs and cold, wet towels around our necks, while Steve sat there patiently as we gabbed and gabbed for over an hour, and the EMTs just sat there and listened to us in amazement (probably that 4 ladies could talk so much, all at the same time, to each other and everyone else and know what was said!).

If there was one thing that really showed how we are a family, even though many wonderful things happened, it was singing Health to the Company, led by our good Queen Bonnie, at the restaurant.

I did hear that I apparently showed a certain part o'me last year at RenDezvous...
did any of ye see it?
I apparently missed it.

Oh... and rumour has it Wenchie and I were seen TALKING at RenDezvous last year... a tradition that we've carried on since then... Wenchie, does that qualify as legendary?

problem #1 - if there are no pictures, it didn't happen
solution- I bought a new digital camera

problem #2 - Rennies will deny everything
solution- Period-correct Polygraph tests

problem #4 - it could get so unbelievable that even with pictures, accusations of photomanipulation will run rampant
solution- who cares?  it'll still be more fun than I can put into words

problem #5 - problem # 3 is mysteriously missing
solution- see?  it's started already!!!

Hmm... Legends of Rendezvous...

You guys have had some wondrous ones.
I missed the "Once Upon a Time" chick

Falcone blowing his right eye up to the size of his head on Friday night.

Being approached and asked "Are you the head of the Florida M'Cracks?" and then being handed a SHERIFF DEPT. CARD when responding in the affirmative!!!

Rushing out of the shower because, through the water running and two walls, it sounded like Falcone was playing with a skil saw in the hotel room only to discover... it was Seamus snoring!  He's an amazing man, he was snoring on his side WITH a pillow over his face and still could project like that.  Definite Rennie!

Traveling 1000 miles to meet Iain Robb, a regular here at BARF, that I have never met here in all this time.

Having the King call me... "THAT guy"

As Ulfric said... 7 Roguings, 2 Pinnings!

Missing Man Photos... LJ mistaking invisibility potion for Scotch

An interesting trip out for Vietnamese food

Some of the most amazingly beautiful women I have ever laid eyes on...

yeah, it was an awesome weekend!

Aye, to meet Count Adolfo and Seamus in Maryland even though we've been attending the same faire here was a bit funny.

I'd add that others should learn from my mistake. I realized after beginning to reply in the affirmative, that you NEVER let Seamus know you have a daughter ...

Aye, the legends.....

The Count, Falcone, and I arriving on Friday night to a sea of friends, hugs, a true Maryland welcome, and a bit of Texas loki....

The Shooter Service.   And a cautionary tale concerning candid remarks..."Wow, this is great!  We should do this in Florida..."       Minutes later, I was officially a Drunk of the Round Table!!  Huzzah!

"And we now dub thee..Lord High Drunkard, Southern Command.    We'll be expecting Shooter Service when we get to BARF this season..... 8)"  Thanks, Ulfric, Lupa, and Lumpy!

Meeting Ol' Whatsisname...yeah, Ian Robb!!              You have a daughter.......? ;)

Watching Hector and the rest get pinned as McCracks...

Seeing Jim and Pamela again..High'n and Pretty'n;  met them in Florida at the Ft. Meyers' Faire earlier this year.   The best!

And a good guy to know if you get arrested in Charlotte, NC....not that I'm planning on it.

Photos, photos, photos......

Holding court at The Boar's Head with Kesrick, DS, and Molden.    Laughing, telling jokes, singing, and generally having a damn good time....and then came the requests for photos with the kids, pretty girls, and free beer in the bargain!

A quick spin for Vietnamese food.... ;D

Meeting Lady Glorianna,  a true pleasure....and a true Lady.

Singing with Strum and Son of Strum to "Black Velvet Band".....with the lyrics to the Bedlam Bards'  "Black Leather Band"!  They loved it so much they're going to learn that naughty version.

The Missing Man formation....

Bollywood..."Once upon a time....hey, lisssen, once upon a time....

And let me state for the record that while there is an embarrassment of damning evidence concerning a certain lost Horseman, there is none linking me to farm animals.   Apparently, this has become Legend as well....

The party is not over till some one gets naked.   "No, Scotsman, NOOO!"

Getting a new mug from Ulfric, courtesy of Lord Dragonspyre.

So I'm in the bathroom at the American Legion, proudly washing out my new mug.  BTW Ulfric, great work..I'm wearing a kilt, hair back in a ponytail, bent slightly over the sink.   An old soldier walks in, stops suddenly, and makes an odd noise, with a sharp intake of breath.  I turned around and greeted him.

"Oh, it's one of you guys.   For a minute I thought I was in the wrong bathroom........"

Caught up with Strum Jr. this weekend and heard all about the incident.  No sooner than I had gotten out the barest details, he interrupted me and said "Oh, you mean Texas".  Evidently you made quite an impression.  I was just glad to find out that no pantomime was involved.  Still, John told me that you silenced Strum Sr. as well - now *that's* an accomplishment.

it went too quickly
that's right... Seamus and I felt like the time between getting off the plane and realizing it was already Sunday was approximately an hour...

Yeah, why DOES time speed up when you're at a new faire among wonderful friends, and having a totally awesome time?  Seemed like that last pub sing came around in the blink of an eye.  Very pleasant weekend!

(Thank goodness TRF opens next week!!!  Now, if only I could get some more Dominion Oak Barrel Stout for the car bar - that stuff was GOOD!)

Well, I can attest that you got plenty of REM sleep
we were very safe in that hotel room
potential intruders had to weigh the risk of angering the bear inside...

Hmmm, well lets see. There were drunk gypsies, pool pornography, boobpong, putting Bonny Pearl in a headlock.... There was also dancing with Wine and Alchemy during parade, and singing Bella Notte after cannon with Cat's parents and Sir Martin. Gooood times.

So many things. Most not even appropriate to post here LOL.

I don't know what happened while I was gone fixing Blues's skirt, nor do I WANT to know.

BTW the gnome wanted to know if the photos of his traveles should be made public or not, or just leave it to each person's immagination.  Personally I think imagination is better.  More creative that way.  ;D

Perhaps because we already knew so many before this trip, it was most assuredly our most fun RenDezvous.

The KCRF front gate show of RumpleStiltskin with "frozen in time" characters performed by the KCRF cast.

....and..... On Sunday, Gunnar Rennier - Celtic Mercenary, was enjoying a moment with a gentleman who was wearing a Pirates baseball cap. Gunnar said to him, "Sir, you've got "P" on your hat",  The gentleman smiled and laughed, and as Gunnar stepped backwards to continue on his way, he bumped into a large boulder and fell backwards in an ice tea plunge fall onto his back, with a sounding  "THUD". As concerned citizens held hands out to help him back up, he retorted with, "No,  no, I meant to do that. I just needed a rest, But you Sir, still have "P" on your hat!"
*Luckily, Gunnar went along his way unscathed, for he fell into a surrounded tree patched with soft wood chips, and  boulder circled, and managed to just miss the almost 100 year old tree with his head, maintained his hat upon his head, tankard in right hand, and a just purchased jar of Jalapeno pickled garlic in the other hand.*
