I know it's hot, but this just sounds good.
My pots and pans have been boxed and moved to the storage unit, so I may go pick up a sammich somewhere. I'm thinking a Jason's California Club - turkey, cheese, bacon and sprouts on a croissant, w/a fruit bowl. Good stuff.
just got back from a weekend of traveling, so.. probably not much. maybe a sandwich and some quick frozen stuff.

We had grilled steak (well, mostly the hubby and the roomie had steak...I had a sliver), -real- sour cream and chive mashed taters, and corn canned from my great-grandpas garden last summer. Mmmm.
(And roasted garlic rye chips for dessert?)
It was Grandma's 80th today. We took her to Red Lobster. (her favorite)

Kid's had swim'n and baseball tonight, had to keep it simple. "No-Name" Salmon. Trust me, if you like salmon you will love this stuff. Little 'turkey popper' timer comes out when it's done. Darn tastey!
We're getting ready to head downstate tomorrow so we kept it simple....PIZZA!!!! and Lil Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls for dessert!
All my leftovers were gone so I had to cook ... chicken-risotto stuffed zucchini with salad on the side and garlic-cheese bread.

Meatloaf in the crockpot, mashed potatoes (yes, I'll confess, they'll be instant), salad, and mixed squash.
'Course, the Ranger will only eat the first two, the rest is all for me.
Bacon cheeseburgers tonight on an onion roll.
A whole artichoke with lemon wine butter sauce and a roll. and white wine.
I'm having chili and macaroni MRE :-\
Fried Green Tomatoes and Flank Steak.
Pasta with freshly made pesto, grilled sausage and steamed broccoli. (just wish my appetite was better!)

OH don't know what thoise are? That's right your not a wild child of the 80's. In the 80's and early 90's in Hollywood on the strip when Hair metal was huge, 4 or more guys live in a room the size or smaller than a dorm room. They had little to no money so when they bought food, they bought what was cheap, Ramon and ketcup.
SO RnR Spaghetti is roman with warm ketchup on it, RnR Tomato soup is hot water with ketcup in it.
No I never tried it as I was not in Hollywood when that went down. I was instead tearing up the music scene along the front range of Colorado plus working a OK paying electronics job.
Tonight I am having Chicken Noodle soup, cheese grills and iced tea. It's poring rain in Colorado with temps in the high 50's and snow expected about 10,000 feet. It's a good soup night.
It's beef loaf for us tonight. Not meat loaf - it has a lot less meat and more veggies and stuff. We'll see how it is.
(The pizza burgers were excellent, for anyone who wondered!)

Tonight's is simple. The Ranger will make us the most delicious light and fluffy omelots full of all the things each of us like best. Plain cheese for him; veggies, spices, and cheese for me. Couple of English muffins with choice of toppings (jelly, pnut butter, butter, honey, or nutella) and big (32oz) cups of coffee.
I love breakfast for supper!
Well it all depends on Thomas and his sister tonight. She is in town and I get to meet her, or more like her interogate me. Needless to say I am a bit nervous and not in a great mood as Thomas is trying to dectate what I wear (They don't know about me and he wants me to look as feminine as I can). SO If I cook it will be plan and simple as her daughter is very very very picky... did I say he daughter was picky? No she won't eat anything but burgers and fries on similar. Me cooking, minute steaks, potatao's and gravy and corn. Or hopefully we go out to eat.
Maybe I should cook for me and they go out to eat.
I don't know how anyone could fail to be impressed by the Surf n Turf you listed above, Lady de Laney. Good luck with your sweetie's sister and niece.

Have sewing to do and need something quick and easy. Breast of chicken salad with pecans , onion and sweet red peppers. Tossed with a vinegrette I think rather than mayo and served over spring greens. Might have to have a bottle of wine with that as well. I thing I have a good pinot grigio waiting to be opened in the fridge. Yep!

When I went to Germany 13 years ago on business, my ex got some beautiful german plates, my grandmother got a beautiful German tea pot, my ex mother in law got a beautiful German hand made Doll (She collects them) my kids got Lederhozen (sp) my mom and I got Nutella from Germany. Needless to say it was my brother who warmed it up and put it on ice cream

Marinate pork loin chop BBQ'd on the gril, wild rice pilaf for me, mashed taters for Toki and about the only veggie he will eat... Corn.
The Marinadeis Zesty Italian Dressing and marinade, soy sauce, lemon juice, a little water, a smidge of Capt Morgan and a dask of red cooking wine with garlic salt, Mrs Dash and a dash of onion powder. Toki loves'em and they melt in your mouth and the gravy I make withthe left over marinade is a bit tart, but OH so good on rice and mashed potatoes (Use a little powdered pork gravy mix to make gravy)

yep you take a precooked ham slice , spread it with jam. i like to useeither grape or strawberry. Then sprinkle raisins on top. Add some sliced apples and some sliced peaches. Heat in microwave for five minutes. then let it sit for a few minutes to soak up any extra juices. then serve. Very easy and really good !

We bought ours from a local deli. Not bad, but I prefer my own. Texas style toast, thick cut bacon, lettuce, big fat tomatoe slices, butter, mayo and cheese! Yep, an artery clogging piece of Heaven!

Well, I asked the Wookie and the Roomie what they wanted last night. Upon looking at the contents of the freezer and refrigerator, the consensus was "OMGBACONCHEESEBURGERS!"
So, that's what it's going to be. Bacon Cheeseburgers (made with cheddar cheese), topped with a mound of veggies in my case, served with hand-cut, seasoned fries.

The chops I cooked were over an inch thick so I cut them in half and made 6 out of three. Now there is plenty for tonight

I took my lovely wife out to dinner last night for her birthday. I had a 12 oz. prime rib with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables (Broccoli, carrots, squash), one loaf of black bread with creamy butter, and a Jim Beam and Coke and a large glass of ice water. Goddess I do love Outback Steakhouse. (Wife had the same only she just had broccoli, and I ordered her a piece of cheesecake with chocolate topping (hey, I'm not stupid) for dessert since it was her birthday).
the lady is on bedrest currently... Last night I grilled up some burgers, baked beans and corn.... tonight is probably going to be the teeager cooking, so it will probably be toast and jam to substatute charcoal that used to be dinner
I'm thinking veggie chili tonight.... it's soooo easy and very tasty-- good for a cool evening on a day that after work, I also need to go to the gym AND clean the apt!

Well last night I cooked a pork loin roast all day in marinade then pulled it apart after cooking for 6 hours. It became BBQ pork standwichs with Stubbs BBQ sauce.
Tonight was to be home made pepperoni piza but it's cold in Colorado today so I am making beef chili
its nice and chilly in Denver right now... I even had to break out my jacket....
This weekend was: Pasta on friday... Gyros and Baclava (best in the state) on saturday. Pot Pies on sunday

Um yummy bisquits and gravy! I love my bisquits out of the gravy smothered in honey then dump large amounts of ketcup into my gravy and mix it all up... OH so yummy, that sounds Oh to good.
Mmmmmm tonight will be steak, mashed potatos and green beans... Yay for real food!!! Will be nice after a weekend of junk... :P

When I left the house this morning, there was chicken soup on the stove already a cookin
I'm a thinking comfort food..... Maybe some beef stew or Jumbalaya... and yes baby there will be left overs to eat when you get home from work... :-*
It's drizzly and a little chilly and overall my kinda weather outside, so I think we're going to have chili. I'll probably start cooking in a little while. It's sooo much better when it just simmers for half the day. Mmmm....

Tonight was hotdogs and baked beans for me.
mmmmm, My parents came to my college and took me out for food. Grilled chicken marsala with mushrooms and mixed veggies and rice pilaf, some of my Dad's rare sesame tuna fillet and "the chocolate symphony" for desert. Chocolate cake topped with chocolate mousse filled with raspberry sauce and covered in a hard chocolate shell.
SO much better than Ramen.

I then put some Stubss Chicken marinate around it with about 1 cup of water. Once the chicken was cooked I drained off the liquid and made gravy with it. OH man was it yummy. If you be refering to me my good Lord, Nah, I am a Northern but a Reb at heart. My mother is where I learned to cook and While I would not say she is southern, she was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Colorado where I am from. My ancestory on her side hails from Germany and America (Fox Indian).
When I first started to cook I would call her up and ask her how I made a said dish and she would tell me. I soon figured out once the basics were down how to do it on my own. And while Toki would say my Fried Chicken is Southern Style it in no way compares to my mothers, but it far exceds my sisters. And as Toki told me last night he has not eaten this well since he lived with his mom in Corpus Cristi.
Tonight is indeed leftovers and tomorrow will most likely be beef tips in beef and mushroom gravy over egg noodles.

Ribs grilled in hot sauce then served with a Mexican chocolate (mole) sauce with yellow rice (with veggies) and home made re-fried beans. Made up some thicker-than-acceptable corn tortillas to mop up the juice and sauce. I made up a big pitcher of traditional margaritas and we watched a MST3K movie (The Crawling Hand). . . and laughed our fool heads off.
We had lemon pepper pork chops, baked potatoes with butta, sour cream and cheddar cheese, and garlic/onion/olive oil roasted veggies.
YUMMY!
It's going to be breakfast for dinner tonight. Eggs (runny-middles for the Wookie, scrambled with cheese and tomatoes for me, and plain scrambled for the roomie), bacon, and banana pancakes.

It all depends on where you are from. Being a westerner we call it supper on weekdays and Saturdays. Dinner to a westerner is a late lunch or early supper usually falling between 1pm and 4pm sometimes a bit latter. Dinner was meant for after church
Besides it was called the "Last Supper" and not the "Last Dinner".
Now I will say my ex Father-in-law who was in eastern Kansas also called it breakfast, lunch and dinner. Where as my grandmother and grandfather and my own mother from western Oklahoma all called it supper 6 days out of the week and Sunday dinner after church.

A HUGE BBQ'd T-Bone for Toki (Great deal he got on a 1" thick one for $5.99 a pound and this one weights in at about 1.5 pounds) I get a petitie sirloin. Baked potato's and corn.
Oh and yes toki will eat all the chuck of steak by himself and not get sick. He loves his steak.
Now the question is M'lady is how do you and Toki do your steaks?
We BBQ them on my grill.
First I put make little slices on both sides of the steak then Kikkoman soy sauce on it top then put on garlic salt then Mrs Dash. I always get compliments on my steaks and burgers because I cook them the same way. Cooked to medium rare. They get tender because of the soy sauce and the garlic and Mrs Dash ad a ton of flavor on top of the grilling
i pan cook my steaks... crusted in salt and pepper and onion and LOADS of garlic in the good Irish butter... just over rare, still a little cool in the middle

The correct combination of herbs and spices is to enhance the natural flavor that is already there. It's like adding sauteed mushrooms and onions (sauteed in real butter) to the menu with a nice grilled steak that has been seasoned with Garlic and black pepper, it enhances the flavor of the steak. I'm all about flavor in my cooking.

No doubt that too much spice can kill the flavor. Also, using the wrong spice can do that as well.
Now, BBQ is something totally differant. I have had people drop to their knees and BEG me to make my barbacue sauce to go with my wifes brisket. (The real sad thing is I am not allowed to eat brisket very often anymore due to health reasons, and I just love that stuff).

It depends on the mood I'm in, and the quality and cut of the steak. Sometimes I want a good flavorful spice and a drizzle of worcestershire. Other times the only seasoning I need is the kiss of the flames and smoke.
Darn it, now I want steak, even though I just ate chili cheese fries.

Something quick and easy...maybe Chicken Parmesan, since I have -sooo- much stuff left over from making lasagna last week...plenty of sauce and cheese, anyway. I have waaay too much studying to do to be cooking forever tonight. Stupid vacation going by so fast. >.<

I make mine with sesame seeds, dehydrated onions, little soy, little spicy asian bbq sauce, and brush them in the pan (no grill :( ) with a mix of soy, honey and a TINY amount of diced Bhut Jolokia pepper. Top with sauteed red onion rings and a small smear of olive-oil based mayo.

I'm trying to be as veggie as I can be out of respect for a certain person in my life (who's not here at the moment). But other important people in my life are still carnivores. Like my 15 year old. Since he spent Thanksgiving with his dad and I had today off, I'm making us one of his favorite meals that is time-consuming to cook, although it's not labor-intensive.
I'm making pork chop and potato casserole...You slice a few (3 or 4) baking potatoes very thin. Mix a can of cream of celery soup and three heaping tablespoons of sour cream. Layer 1/2 the potatoes in a 9x13 baking dish, salt and pepper them and then add half the sour cream mixture. Repeat. Bake for 90 minutes in a 350 oven. Caramelize two salted and peppered butterflied pork chops in some olive oil, about 5 minutes per side on high heat, then add to the top of the potatoes, cover with foil and bake another 30 minutes. We'll have some mixed veggies on the side and flan for dessert.
Tonight, leftovers, of course...and what glorious leftovers they will be...

Tonight I was experimenting, ended up with Cheese/Chicken Quesadillas for the Ranger, Green Chili Chicken Enchiladas and Guacamole for me. I'm still introducing him to spices and vegetables, he tried a bit of the Guacamole, "I don't hate it but ... eh"

Cream Cheese, Garlic, and Chive Stuffed Chicken
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook Time: 30 Minutes Ready In: 45 Minutes
Servings: 4
INGREDIENTS:
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese,
softened
2 tablespoons dried chives
1 clove garlic, minced
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon black pepper 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves,
butterflied
8 slices turkey bacon
2 tablespoons butter, melted
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, chives, and garlic. Divide the mixture into 4 balls.
Place 1 cream cheese ball in the center of each butterflied chicken breast half.
Fold the chicken over the cream cheese, wrap with a slice of turkey bacon, and secure with toothpicks. Arrange the chicken in a baking dish. Pour the butter over the chicken.
Sprinkle pepper and paprika over chicken.
Bake 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the bacon is crisp and the chicken is no longer pink and juices run clear.
Baked haddock, basmati rice with pine nuts, steamed spinach, and a salad comprising avocado, tomato & cucumber.

Chicken parm with homemade sauce that has been simmering all day
As a chef... who worked a function last night.... and didn't sleep until after midnight.... and then opened at 7 a.m..... the only answer for supper tonight is beef and venison burgers with fries!!!! ::) I am far too tired to think or cook tonight so hubby barbecued and it was delicious. Now I just wish that I hadn't eaten so fast.

muffins with this past weekend.
Now stop that!!! I had basic crap for supper tonight, and even though I'm not hungry... I'm not exactly satisfied, ya' know? I bought some naan-type stuff the other day, or at least it said naan... but it just doesn't have the right texture or consistency, so I was a bit disappointed, particularly since it was $2.50 for a pkg of 2 rounds!!! And that was at the "mega-mart"... ::)
The last menu thread drifted away after last winter, and I got tired of searching for it, so here we are again...
Tonight, we're having homemade beef stew, with potatoes, carrots, celery, corn, peas and green beans.

It can be found at Braum's Ice Cream store. It's a local chain, though, so you'd have to come here to try it, but they have their own dairy and everything. They own the cows, so they control the process from the very start, which ensures that all their dairy products are top quality. Good stuff!!!
I bet it is Rani. You all are so lucky to have such good places with such good stuff where you live. If I am ever down that way I will have to stop by and try what they have including the cheesecake you mentioned earlier.
My niece worked at Braums and brought me some of their strawberry cheesecake. It's to die for.
All of the ice cream pies are just way too yummy!!! My aunt lives in St. Louis, where they don't have Braum's, and she'll come down here and ship a box of ice cream and dry ice home, and drive home eating a half gallon between her and my uncle... and finish it before they leave the state! LOL

Real Vermont maple syrup and homemade butter that my renlet and I make ourselves from fresh sweet cream from a local dairy... Mmmmm, maybe tonight! :D
Although... tostadas with beef, beans and yellow rice suddenly sounds really good, also, and I already have all the fixin's right here... ;) heheh

Soooo... that morphed into chicken pasta primavera, with rotini instead of the egg noodles, and my 9 y/o renlet has decided she wants to help with all the cooking from now on!!! We made it together, and it was fun! :D Can't wait for tomorrow's menu... ;)
We used a traditional strainer and it turned out fabulous. We had to transpose a standard recipe and multiply it to serve 90...needed to tweak it with a bit more flour than we thought to get the right consistency but it worked out excellent in the end.
It will definitely be on my list of "things I need to learn how to do the traditional way" the next time I get back to Germany to visit my chef friend there.
This was a practice run for a full German meal that we are doing in September for 180...schnitzel, rouladen, spaetzle, red cabbage and apple strudel.....nom nom nom nom nom

Last night we started with fresh garden tomatos and perfectly seasoned grilled Alaska pollok followed by perfectly seasoned and grilled t-bones, baked potatos topped with Top the Tator (we were out of regular sour cream,) chives and chopped jalepenos fresh from the garden, sugar snap peas and baby carrots in a light buttery sauce and all washed down with ice cold beer. =D
Last night was pork tenderloin roasted with roma tomatoes, garlic and yellow bell pepper. On the side was saffron/cumin rice.
Last night was chicken curry, popadums, and flatbread.
Tonight will be beef taco salad with fresh homemade tortilla chips and a delicious lime cilantro dressing.
Just some salad tonight. The thought of cooking in this heat....absolutely not!
pan-seared NY strip, roasted corn, loaded baked potato and creamed corn cornbread.
Linguini in red sauce, green salad with cucumber, yellow squash and the last of the tomatoes.
It's only 95 degrees today. While it's cool, I think I'll fire up the charcoal grill and do some steaks!
Tonkatsu, shredded cabbage, rice, miso soup, and pickles.
Last night was grilled Roma Chicken sausage with a spinach and mushroom pesto sauce over angel hair pasta.
Tostadas with taco seasoned ground beef, black beans, saffron rice, lettuce, tomatoes and grated 4 cheese blend, on stone ground baked white corn tortillas.
My special Greek casserole- Brown rice with herbs and garlic, spinach, chicken, feta cheese, lima beans - seasoned with lemon juice and sherry. Yummy.
Rack of pork spare ribs, seared on the grill then slathered in Sweet Baby Ray's honey BBQ sauce to finish off in the big roaster for that moist, fall off the bone goodness. Homemade Macaroni salad on the side ^_^.
I read this thread and gained 14 pounds....

Hmmm... no one to cook for tonight, so maybe fast food from somewhere... Taco Bueno sounds kinda good.

Sammie for one tonight. Whole multi-grain bread with sliced lower sodium (it actually has more flavor than the higher salt content meats) turkey and chicken breast, aged Wisconsin cheddar, lettuce and tomato with mayo and spicy mustard, mini pretzels and a kosher dill pickle. And for dessert... one of my awesome PB-oatmeal-chocolate chip-nut-dried berry cookie bars. Mmmmm.........
And for tonight... Hamburger stew! Haven't made this one in a while, and it's soooo yummy! With fresh hearty multi-grain bread from Panera Bread, and homemade butter! It smells... heavenly. :P
Pizza flavored Pringles and a beer poured into my Faire mug! I am going to my happy Faire place and no one can stop me!!!!

Hot tea and brandy. :-\

We had homemade ham & havarti turnovers for lunch followed by homemade biscuit doughnut holes, deep fried and rolled in cinnamon and brown sugar. It was yummy... ;)

Tomorrow.....HOMEMADE pizza :) Wheat dough topped with chicken, asparagus, mushrooms, garlic, tomatoes, black olives and mozzarella cheese! My favorite dinner EVER! ;D
Mmmm ... clam chowder, home-made biscuits and steamed clams with garlic sauce for Andrea. Cheese enchilada and caramel apples for Gabi, chilli and mamaliga (corn meal) for Ferdi and for me ... a big cup of teraflu and boiled tzuica (plum brandy boiled with sugar and peppercorns). Breakfast... pancakes, hash browns and bacon.
Today I slow cooked boneless, skinless chicken breasts with one can of cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of water with brown sugar (should have used less water the result is a little soupy,) peppers and onions. YUM!!!!! I also made Au gratin potatos and candied carrots.

cracked black pepper/Celtic sea salt crusted London Broil, pan fried red potatoes, and rum/honey/buttered carrots w/ rosemary/olive oil artesan bread and Guiness Extra Stout
The wife made lentil soup with loads of veggies, and fresh foccaccia with parmesan, asiago, and rosemary from the garden. Oh so good.
Caribbean Chicken. It's a chicken and rice dish with tomatoes, olives, capers, and spices. Not bad!
Lots of homemade chicken noodle soup lately. It's been rather miserably chilly lately, but without all the pretty snow everyone else has been getting... just bitter, biting wind that stops for nothing. Not even walls, it seems... Brrrr!!!

It was a cupcake contest, and it was lots of fun, and the descriptions of the cupcakes were hilarious to read!
There's no food in the house and dinner is being "invented"....I have a feeling I'll be bopping down to pizza hut in a bit.

The Cherry Garcia sounds good, but I've never gotten the taste for cheese or ketchup on my eggs.

Chicken salad
This one is really simple but look impressive.
coat 12" pyrex baking dish with olive oil
Cut 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts into 1-1/2" pieces and layer into baking dish. Season chicken liberally with basil, onion, garlic, salt and white pepper. Bake in oven @ 375 for 10 minutes.
In a seperate dish combine 1 can diced tomatoes with 1 can spahghetti sauce. Add to this mixture, 1/4 teaspoon oregano, 1 minced garlic glove, 1 tablespoon grated parmesan and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
Layer approx 2 cups freshly washed baby spinach leaves over chicken.
Spread tomato mixture over this and return to oven. Bake for an additional 25 minutes and serve with risotto.
Chocolate swirl ice cream. So healthy,lol. But cold!!!! :)

A most excellent home cooked anniversary dinner if I do say so myself. Burgundy beef pot roast, roasted potatoes with fresh rosemary, good crusty bread, washed down with a nice Cab/Syrah. After dinner nibbles of grana padano and more wine. Contented sighs of fullness...Warm apple pie and cream later if we have room.
Now, if I could just get someone else to do the dishes...

I learned to like it, but will only eat fresh cooked tender crisp. That mush from a can you can keep. My fav is the pencil thin ones grilled in EVOO with lemon, orange, and garlic. OMG GOOD!

I can't think of any veg that we still eat from a can... Tell the Don that the properly prepared fresh asparagus is good.

I read labels assiduously. You can find wraps that are low in calories and have a good protein content so you feel like you ate more than you did.

Our family has a long standing tradition of picking themes for Thanksgiving. This year was Baja Mexico and we had 5 kinds of fish.
And after the four day weekend, there were no leftovers.
So tonight I am having thick cut pork chops stuffed with tiny shrimp, almond meal and herbs de Provence.
For the side dish we will be having spiced dumpling squash.
Ah finally something different. Lasagna! ;D

I started with a Greek Salad, and then had the Penne Pesto (Basil, Pecorino Romano, Parmesano, Pine Nuts, Garlic, Olive Oil) with Tomatoes, Feta Cheese and several kinds of Olives - topped with Grilled Chicken. It was delicious.
Just a Healthy Choice meal I had in the freezer. SO not cooking tonight.

sadly, in 2011 most parents let their kids eat whatever they want when they want. most kids eat crap non stop. "back in my day", we ate what we were told. now my parents were cool, the recognized that like most kids, we wouldnt eat tomatoes, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, a few things. BUT, it was a fact you were eating a vegetable with dinner nightly. and corn was NOT a vegetable. you had to eat a green one, like it or not!
mmmmmmmmmmmm, now i love all vegetables. still BARELY tolerate brussel sprouts though!
Here's my rennie inspired Solstice supper (http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll127/MB2008_01/1222111825.jpg)! :) The meat was salted pork put in a slow cooker w/water, thyme, cloves, sage, salt, pepper, bay leaves, shallots and lemon juice for about 5 hrs then refrigerated while I slept. Then I heated it up & put honey mustard on it. The potatoes I boiled then put in the oven for 20 min w/butter. The wassail was a recipe from Renaissance Magazine: apple cider, pomegranate juice, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey & brown sugar heated over the stove. The dessert is a pumpkin log cake w/buttercream & powdered sugar covered w/chocolate frosting & more powdered sugar. It was delish & now I'm stuffed! :D

that sucks on the friend with the oysters. i dont spook easily on food. i actually got salmonella in the summer of 2010 and we were almost positive it was from eggs, yet i still eat mine over easy. they warned me too afterwords, about eating "undercooked" eggs, but i like my eggs over easy, so i said to hell with you guys!!! i even still eat at the same restaurant still!
Ok... why did I stumble in here the day we are planning to go out tonight for OYSTERS!
If you're getting them from a reliable fishery, you're probably fine. I used to manage an oyster bar (!) & Cajun-style restaurant, although I didn't personally partake. We never had an illness reported in all of the oysters we peddled. And we sold a lot. I PERSONALLY shucked 144 dozen (that's 1728 shucks) one day when a big college football game was in town. Our supplier never brought us questionable product. We bought one time from an alternate source (when ours couldn't supply us because of a shortage) and they smelled like they were fished from a sewer. Those went back... Another oyster bar in town had a death from tainted oysters, but I have no idea the source of their supply. With Gulf oysters, I guess not getting them in a month without an 'R' in it is about right.
There are inherent dangers with almost anything. Really. I like my beef bloody. You take your chances where you feel safe. It seems that there are more problems these days than there used to be. That's due to a few things, in my opinion. 1) Over prescription and use of antibiotics. There's little left to fight off bacteria with anymore. 2) Overuse of chemicals, in, on, and around our foodstuff. I never heard of some of these crazy allergies until the last 20 years. 3) Overpopulation. There are too many people on this planet. We should eliminate some, starting with the ones that drive around talking on their cell phones instead of paying attention to what they are doing. :P

If you peruse my posts, you'd notice that I don't post every evening's meal. As an example, for Saturday dinner, I had two grilled chicken fajitas with double the pico de gallo. On a prior evening, I had grilled chicken breast, steamed green beans, and half of a cob of corn (unbuttered). Posting cereal became a point of humor for me.

I like grits pasty, not syrupy.
Hmmm... not a big fan of grits, but I do occasionally enjoy a bowl of Cream of Wheat for breakfast. I like them just a bit thin, though, with brown sugar, cinnamon and butter, and made with milk instead of water.
That actually sounds like a nice midnight snack... ;D

I took a short break from James & Ann Marie's Birthday Party at Main Event (Webster, TX), and went with a couple of lovely ladies next door to Twin Peaks for some dinner. Main Event is great for entertainment, however the food at Twin Peaks is better.

I'm making a big pot of Beef and Barley Soup with cornbread muffins.
Had hassenpfeffer and bread dumplings. Yum!
shredded beef burrito bowl from chipolte, me thinks i have been phoning it in as of late!
rostbif avec framboise
2 lbs London broil
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium white onion sliced or minced
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1-2 teaspoons Herbes de Provence (savory, fennel, basil, thyme, and lavender flowers)
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/2 cup toasted pine nuts
2 cups fresh spinach leaves
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
1/4 to 1/2 cup prepared raspberries
Lightly coat meat in flour salt and pepper and brown on both sides in hot olive oil. Drain off most of fluid, add red wine, onions, mushrooms, toasted pine nuts and seasonings. In a pressure cooker, this can all be done in one pot.
For normal cooking simmer 1 1/2 hours. For a pressure cooker, cook 30 minutes.
Then add spinach and raspberries.

Serve with crusty french bread

and the rosemary & olive oil version made the best pizza crust I think I've ever had! (and it had nothing at all to do with the fact that I finally have a full-size oven again and can use my favorite stoneware baking pans...) The pizza was fairly small, and not totally filling, but between that and my salad, I was plenty satisfied.
One night I also used the foldit flatbread as my hamburger bun, and it was absolutely refreshing!

I made Mushu Pork for the first time ever.
I have never had it before so I have nothing to compare it to- but it was totally awesome.
It took 2 hrs, but I think in the future I can shave at least 30 min off that time.

A huge salad with organic baby spinach and field greens, cucumber and vine ripe tomatoes, sliced ham, salad crunchies (mix of nuts, seeds and herbs), a sprinkling of cheddar, monterey jack and parmesan cheeses, and bleu cheese dressing. Mmmmm... it was yummy!

Hope the A/C is an easy fix, Merlin, and doesn't take much of a toll on your wallet! I know how miserable it can be to have no way to get cool in that kind of heat/humidity, and it's not only miserable, but it can be down right dangerous, as well!
It was minor, a quick fix, and not expensive! I'm thrilled! Think I'll take the old lady out for tacos...

Carolina Blue jumbo lump Crabcakes!
I am lucky that my landlocked town has a young entrepreneur who drives down to eastern carolina and picks up fresh seafood every Wednesday and sells it to us on Thursdays for exactly the same price I would pay if I was buying it on OBX.
I would share my crabcake recipe if it was anything special, but it is not. It is just jumbo lump with just enough spices, binding and breadcumbs to make it adhere. What is special is a trick I stole from a local seafood vendor who has since passed away. He shaped his crabcakes using a ladle.
Lightly pack the jumbo lump crabcake mix into a ladle and then upend it on a plate so you have dome-shaped cake. Chill covered in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or until you are ready for din-din. Place it flat side down into a lightly oiled skillet and cover Cook for 4 minutes. Uncover and place entire skillet under the broiler for 3 minutes more. Voila. A perfect crabcake.
Ugh. Ramens. Something tells me I need to go grocery shopping. ::)

Last night was salad with grilled chicken (no dressing), some chicken soup (no noodles), and a Guinness. This was at the Bull & Bear where the HHGA was having a Craic. It was good to see everyone and there was piping and fiddling, too!
Well, since the doctor told me to shape up I have been extra diligent in what I eat. So, tonight for dinner it's a pasta bake made with turkey meat, red/yellow bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and pasta made from vegetables with low skim cheese.
Once it gets abit colder, I am with Merlin - Chilis, with lots of soups and hot sandwiches.
Meatloaf!!! Finally... and with mashed potatoes and green beans! "Soft" foods can be pretty good, actually... ;D

Ok, so I only had most of an extremely small slice, and it will be one of the last few times I get to eat bread before the band is filled... so I will enjoy it while I can, one half cup at a time. Good thing I was with 3 other people, because by the time I finished my tiny slice they had decimated the whole rest of the pie! Didn't matter, though, because I was almost too full to move... LOL
Oh... did I mention that it had ground beef, polish sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon and cheddar on a hand tossed wood fired oven baked crust??

Homemade pizza using flour tortillas,

Pineapple
Black olives
Mushrooms
Pan sausage
2 cans (seasoned) tomato sauce, mixed with one can tomato paste.
Many @ 6, different cheeses.
And beer!

We had a smaller gathering than anticipated, but I always make a lot, because I love the leftovers! I'm one of those boring people that can eat the same thing for several days, and think nothing of it.
Leftovers... but not turkey. We didn't get any turkey leftovers this year... so I bought us a ham, instead. Tomorrow is pot roast, but after that I'm putting the rest of this ham in a big pot of beans.
We Mexed it up last evening...return to leftovers today, at least for one meal.
POt roast... the LAST pot roast before my gastric band gets filled... so it was a sad farewell. :'(
