Title: Change of Names?
Post by: The Rabbi on September 20, 2012, 04:03:20 PM
While the same Village Idiot{me} shall remain in charge and our location will be the same as last years Spirit of Magic may be in for a name change. The themed campground we are working on is known as The Gypsy Woods and as it looks will be operational by May 2013. So the great debate Shall we remain Spirit of Magic or Gypsy Woods Fest? Trying to figure out which we like so any feedback will be appreciated.

I favor Gypsy Woods (something, not necessarily Fest).

Spirit of Magic just never stuck with me as being the name of a faire.

Why not both in some fashion?

As in, come enjoy the Spirit of Magic at Gypsy Wood!

Just a random thought for you!

That's why we call Lady Kett the Voice of Intelligence....well, maybe not, but that's still a great idea...

Something I am certain Neither of us shall be called anytime soon....chaos and insanity yes and while Intelligence may not escape us Good Merlin but we both do rather well at keeping it under control. I do like the whole combo thing now to keep getting ideas to the final solution.

Problem solved all dreams are cancled and dead as there is no support for smaller fairs nor a need for me to continue sinking good money after bad.

Been watching this thread for a more hopeful update.

I do wish I could have continued on in a forward motion unfortunately I am but one person and was not actually suppose to be doing what I was. Funding was coming from me personaly and this is my VA disability. With todays economy it was no longer feasible for me to continue sinking good money after bad. As a rennie I still feel I have a home on the forum and plan on sticking around. As a small fair owner I tried to garner interest and watched the other small fairs as well. I do not feel that it is an intentional slight but there is very little interest in small fairs here and if you can not get motivation for a fair here imigine dealing with mundanes on a local basis. I have no regretts except not accomplishing my goal and for that there is no other to blame but myself.

It is unfortunate that the faire did not work out the way you hoped.  Obviously there were factors beyond your control, so perhaps you cannot claim and shoulder all the blame yourself.  We who have been following have seen how much you put of yourself in this, way beyond the money aspect.

Personally I regret that I was unable to find a way to visit this year and was hopeful of making the trip in the next year or two.  Like so many others, money, i.e. lack of to be precise, has become a roadblock in way of so much I want to do. :(

Peace and hugs.

I'm sorry to hear this, Rabbi. I feel like, having never even met you, that you had your heart and sou in this endeavor.

*hugs*

Yes indeed I gave this endevour 110% time and energy heart and soul blood sweat and tears and almost my last breath. I did not go quietly nor did I give in to the politics or comercialism to achieve my goals. I am a traveler tried and true and and our days our numbered soon to be through. It is not pleasent to watch a dream die but it was either the dream or I and Ive just wed so would not choose to leave a widow behind so soon. I greatly appreciate the kind thopughts and wishes Thank you all.

I'm sorry to hear that, Rabbi.  We've had too many Renfaires go the way of King Arthur the past few years.  Once we get this economy turned around, they should start to flourish again.

Rabbi,
I am sad to hear this.  However, I do understand what you are saying.  Had RFFO not gotten the small grant from the City of Fayetteville advertising and promotion commission, I am not sure the our fall fair would be taking place.   I, too, have been pooring my own money into our faire.  It often does present a hardship on myself and my family.

I also understand the stress that goes along with putting a good fair together.   Many of the volunteers don't realize how much work goes on behind the scenes.  I was diagnosed with high blood pressure (I was in the stroke range when I was diagnosed) soon after I took over as general manager of RFFO.  Believe me, there are days when I know that my blood pressure is extremely high...and yes the fair is often a contributing factor!  I actually had to step back this summer and take a month away and let someone else act aS interim general manager just to get myself stress free (never happened with school starting and all but it was less for awhile).

I want you, your family, and your fair group to know that you still have a renaissance faire family...the Renaissance and Fantasy Faire of the Ozarks.  We are not that far away from you and you are always welcome to come to Fayetteville and get your rennie fix!  And should you every feel inclined to bring the Spirit of Magic back, just let us know and we will be there to help you get it off the ground again.  We were able to revive a dying faire here in Fayetteville and bring it back to life.  We can help you bring the magic back to your dreams as well!

We, here at RFFO, love you all!  Don't give up on your dreams!  We shall be here ready to help you in any way we can!  You are a part of the RFFO family.

Good Lady Margarita
There was never any doubt in my mind that RFFO was a safe haven of rest and a home away from home but we do indeed Thank You for the confirmation. I can safely say that SoM will not be returning which truly leaves a vile taste in my mouth and a certain amount of bitterness as I am sure you can understand. On a positive note I have been encouraged by several people to reconsider my actions and to try a different approach which honestly does not appeal to me as my integrity and the concept of SoM are not negotiable. The intent of SoM was not a means to gain profit merely to be self sufficent and to provide us Rennies another place to gather relax and be entertained. The Magic was to see people smile and yes I did succeed there and that Spirit will never die. Unfortunately it took my saying it was over to get several peoples attention that this venture was literally killing me in order to have them offer to take on more responsability. At this time I have several reservations about attempting to even think about stepping back up to the plate however should I decide to do so I know that without any doubt that You and RFFO along with Mystery will be there to help and I can not tell either of you how much this is appreciated. Thank you.
