This has been quite a different year for me.  I usually visit about 8 - 10 faires in and around Oklahoma each year.  Most have/will be a new experience for 2018.  The Grand Lake Renfaire (OK) was in the same place as last year but new to me.  The Norman Medfaire was freezing!  I've never wanted to leave that place so quickly.  The Renfaire of the Ozarks was in a new locale as well.  I went to the Avalon Faire in Kilgore, TX for the first time this year (loved it).  I only made it to OKRF once due to the heat.

The OK Scotfest is moving from Tulsa to its suburb of Broken Arrow in September this fall.  I also want to attend for the first time the Canterbury Faire in OKC, The Dragonfest in Springfield, MO and the Central Mizzou Renfest in October.

Maybe I can visit familiar stomping grounds of the Heavener (OK) Viking Fest and KCRF this fall.  Of course, I'll be at all 3 days of the Kiefer (OK) Medfaire in my booth.

All of this and I will be changing my website layout this summer.  I've had tons of new experiences for this year.  Huzzah!  I hate boring routines.

I love the Tex renfest. I would like to make it this year but work and all might prove difficult. I know the Tex renfest is big and I guess commercialized but it offers quite a lot. The first time I went to faire I was blown away with the property size and permanent structures . I've been told that many smaller faires have heart and soul and not to discredit them for lack of size.  I like camping out but after a long day or two a hotel room is a welcome sight. I enjoy meeting other rennies and just being in the midst of the renaissance culture . I enjoy looking at others photos of the faires they attend.

Lord Argyl, have you made it to the Sherwood Forest Faire in the early part of the year?  I've been to TRF and Sherwood both.  Sherwood has lots of area but is not as hugely attended as TRF (yet?).  It has camping, a wonderful family feel but is not commercialized.  It is a great way to kick off the faire season in Texas.

No I haven't been to Sherwood but I will try next year. I have heard great things about it so it is on my list of priorities . Sherwood for me would be a long drive but I'm willing .

Sherwood is a wonderful faire! I've been dying to get back there for years.  It's a bit of a drive for us as well, but well worth the trip.

I'm curious to know if the hotels in the area of Sherwood faire book up fast like around Tex renfest.  I would most likely do the hotel thing since it would be my first time there.  It would be great if a meet up would be organized sorta like the meet ups for Tex renfest.

Sherwood is near the tiny town of McDade.  I stayed at a motel in Bastrop, which is about 15 miles away.  It didn't seem like the hotel was full.  I don't know about the bulk of the motels and hotels in Bastrop.  Since Sherwood hasn't grown to the size of TRF, it may keep the nearby towns from getting swamped for now.

We stay in Bastrop when we go to Sherwood. We're eons past the camping age...

I will be attending the PaRenFaire  August 18th and 19th, which is the Celtic Weekend. I've made hotel reservations Friday the 17th through Monday the 20th at a hotel one exit on the Pa Turnpike away from the Faire. The hotels on Route 72 near the Faire have gotten outrageously expensive, so a 20 minute ride on the turnpike and toll is a better choice. Also, I won't have to put up with road construction on Route 72 south of the Faire. Since I no longer bring the Renaissance Bubble Machine to the Shire, I'm free to go to all the shows. I need to print up the weekly writ when it becomes available to plan each day. Of course, a lot of time will be spent schmoozing and visiting with my Faire family. Alas, for the sake of comfort, I will be dressing as a Dane.

Sadly, I haven't been able to make it to faire since 2013. That's like a lifetime for someone who used to make it every season and at one point went every single weekend of TRF. I probably won't make TRF this year due to work, but I'm absolutely making Sherwood a priority come spring. It's just been too long! I have love for both faires. Sherwood has become my favorite. It's smaller and more intimate, they really took rennies into account when they created it and still do, which is awesome. But I will always have love for TRF. It wasn't my first faire, but it was the faire I went to most and longest before Sherwood, and I'll always love it.

I too haven't been to any faires for a number of years . Sadly yet thankfully  I have relied on others pics from the faires they attend to quench my thirst so to speak. Should all the planets align and I get a weekend off I will try my best to attend Tex renfest.

Hoping to trip on up to New York sometime in September to visit The Offspring and his family. Planning to make a side-trip to NYRF in Tuxedo Park, and will be our first visit to that faire.

We made two trips to Scarby this season, but haven't hit any other. We're ready for a fix. I wish we had a faire in central Arkansas.
