Title: 2011 Plotting
Post by: Becky10 on January 03, 2011, 12:34:14 AM
So 2011 is now upon us and fair is now only 4 months away!

I managed to get some material and am getting ready to make a bodice and some skirts. The old black and gold is just too big to get around and see shows in easily and I havent been doing heat too well. Just bought 3 sets of tickets for the discount price so I'll probably wear it one of those then switch to peasant gear for the other two.
Other positive, it looks like I'll have a hearty little herd coming with me this year. More amazingly they're all guys so it will be interesting seeing if i can get them in garb.

I am hoping for some new shows this year so I am watching the site to see when its updated.

How have you all been planning and plotting?

I too am mixing it up a bit: I have a brown hat w/a feather, off white pucker shirt, brown bodice, green skirt & furry tail hanging off a brown belt for my peasant outfit (so to speak) so far. All I need for it is a tin or pewter cup & a brown leather like pouch for holding my stuff in to hang off the belt too. Maybe some brown, leather looking clog type shoes but I'm debating if those would work. As for my usual, I need a fancier material hat, brown, leather looking mary janes, one of those feather fans, and something to hang the fan & a poppuri censer off my waist. It's coming together little by little; hopefully I'll have all but the fan by faire: I'm hoping to get that there...:)

I might be visiting for more than a single weekend ... and I'm SO excited about that!  Although at this point I'm not sure if anything but my wench garb will fit ... time will tell.  And maybe there is time to put something else together.

Nothing like a last minute scramble to put garb together! That's my expertise.

Yep ... it's not truly opening cannon unless there's at least some of us scrambling to finish building and sewing!

My piratical garb *might* also be all sorted in time.  I'm hoping anyways.  Always too many projects and NEVER enough time! =)

I may be able to make it to the faire once this year, but there will be no new garb for me. Oh well..

I am kind of screwed pay wise right now though, I just put all my money in my account then I ended up breaking my card in half yesterday >.<

I am fully getting into gear for the start of faire.  My new outfit is fully completed and group rehearsals/practice is now focused on preparing for the first day of faire.  I expect to see all of you there.

Blushing...it will all work out.  We will work out your packng issues and decisions like always.

Becky...i hope you will be able to get your band dressed.  If not, it will be entertaining either way.  Oh the good olde days of being a peasant.

Mercedes...again, it all works out in the end somehow.

Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.
Fennyman: So what do we do?
Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
Fennyman: How?
Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.

Just remembered I really want this (http://www.artofadornment.ca/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/24_26/products_id/422) to wear w/the dress I'm wearing in my avatar, but no way am I paying that price, so I'm going to attempt a diy as close to it as possible w/gold coloring instead of silver if I can...

Oooooo that is so very pretty, i love the color.

Well two things that worry me.
1. Still havent done diddle squat for my new garb and if I wear the big black one again this year I might die...again. Last year you could have found me under a table (in my upper wanna be noble full on hoop dress) drinking olive brine stuff cause the heat killed me. I would like to not do that again so peasant a'hoy!

2. I decided I needed to cut off a lot of my hair. Snood is a no go,  I think I might just wear a felt hat I "acquired" and leave it be.

So happy faire is almost here!  ;D

I can't speak for the rest of the cast but opening weekend was pretty good.  The crowds were larger than previous years.  There were some minor kinks but that is expected for the first weekend.  Things improved and will continue to do so each weekend.

Pretty good weekend, no one died, I didn't need to hurt anyone  ;D

Got to run the poetry contest at least once, did a sonnet for glade stop.

Tea was a blast. Christopher Hatton shows up for tea late.

Me: Your Majesty, May I tap my foot petulantly on your behalf?

"Aped" Shakespeare at closing. Danced, Sang, wooed... Made old ladies and little girls blush.

All in all pretty good weekend!

Does anyone know if there's any way to get discount tickets? I was going to go this Saturday and Sunday, but after realizing that it would cost me $50 just to go both days, there's no way I can afford it.

Lady Rebecca, I am sure the faire would not condone this but alot of people get tickets from work and I've been offered half price tickets in the parking lot many a time now. I always pre-order mine so I dont need them but I've had some friends take them...but you didnt hear that from me  ;)

I'll be there tomorrow. I'm in Las Vegas now.

And Becky, does that mean I should get there early and wander around the parking lot?  ;)

Well I drove out there on Saturday, but when I saw that on top of the $25 at the gate admission, there was a $10 parking fee, I turned around and drove the hour back to my aunt's house. I'm sure it might be a lovely faire, but I'm not willing to spend $35 (or even $32.50) for any faire.

Post by: Becky10 on April 18, 2011, 12:59:59 PM
I've been trying to find a place to park and hike in but after multiple heatstroke episodes I am a bit worried about it. The parking can be pretty ridiculous d\especially seeing that its not a superb parking area, they have gotten better at cleaning out the rocks though.
Title: Re: 2011 Plotting
Post by: Baron Dacre on April 18, 2011, 03:39:08 PM
Unfortunately the faire has no control over the parking fee. :-[.... The faire is in an LA county owned park, and the park is charging for entrance to the park not the faire...

When we went we car pooled.  There was 5 of us crammed into our friends car, as well as our garb. It was 'cozy' to say the least.  At least we only had to pay the $8 (at the time) entrance fee, but we knew about it before we went so we were prepared.  I know it stinks but that is the way it is, saddly.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Lady Rebecca!  I wonder how many others have missed faire over the parking fee AND ticket prices.

This is Southern California, so I expect things to cost more in general.  I've specially budgeted gas money for my upcoming visit!  A one-day park hopper pass for the Disney parks is about $100, I think, and parking for cars $15.  And I don't think they will let you in if you're dressed in "costume"!

$101  :D Man even just going to the beach is $15 parking if you want to be somewhere near the beach!

Yep it is indeed $15...but here's an idea: carpool & have everyone chip in for parking (& gas if need be)....for example: 5 people in the car=15 divided by 5 so that would be only 3 bucks each.

I'm a Disney employee - no parking or entrance fees for me!

As far as costumes go, I understood that was the rule, but when I was there on Sunday, I saw a couple where they gentleman was wearing a frock coat, top hat, and carrying a Nightmare Before Christmas lunch box, and the lady on his arm was wearing a corset and bustle. Very Steamy.

This will be my first time attending this faire and I will be wearing the same that I wore to the AZRF this year; my hastily put together pirate garb (points to picture). The base dress is actually an old Halloween 'gypsy pirate' dress. I added: brown underskirt, black boots, black/red cape my sister made, jinglies, jewelry, feathered hat, leather pouch. If it is colder weather, then I have the cape and black tights, which actually did keep me very warm one weekend when it snowed at the AZRF. If it is warmer weather, I just ditch the cape and tights to have only skirts. I'm in the process of making another slightly more 'authentic' outfit with my sister so I can get rid of the Halloween costume portion. It still works and loosk great, but it is falling apart. It is about six years old now. It's time.

Sorry I missed all of you.  It was a pretty busy, full scheduled weekend.  I saw Blushing perhaps once briefly a day the whole time she was there.  If it weren't for having dinner plans with her on Saturday night I wouldn't have even seen her.

Hope you can all try to make it for the final weekend of faire.
