Title: Ardmore area Rennies
Post by: Ryk Rakham on November 18, 2010, 11:20:08 AM
Hi Faire Folke! We have recently moved from Texas to Ardmore and are wondering if there are any Ardmore area Rennies? With the off and on Lawton R/F and OKRF and others, I thought there might be some fellow rennies nearby. We belonged to the Wichita Falls Renaissance Faire Society, it was a great way to stay in contact with fellow rennies, form car pools and convoys, share information, etc. Just wondering. Private message me if you are near Ardmore and we'd love to get in contact.

Now, I'm not up on my OK geography, but I do know that the Norman Medieval Faire is ongoing, though it's only one weekend.  I went this past spring for the first time, and will definitely go back.  It's not huge, but they've got a pretty good selection of vendors and decent acts.

I don't know of any Ardmore R/Fer's, Ryk... in fact, there don't seem to be many OK R/Fer's, period.  Even up here near the City it seems as though the SCA is really about it, as far as Rennies go.  At least as far as I can tell, anyway...  It would be nice to have other Rennies to get together with on a regular basis during the off-season, but so far I haven't found any.  :-\  Good luck in your quest, though!

Check out www.meistersrealm.com for all of the Renfaires in & around OK.  I recently received confirmation that the Messina Itialian Renfest will come back to the Bristow area this year.  Tulsa's King's Champion Medfaire will be back for its 4th year in September.  Four Winds Faire is a great, family-oriented faire just south of Tyler, TX in the spring.

You're right, there don't seem to be very many OK R/fer's. The City is not that far from us, perhaps if we found enough interested Faire goers we could set up gatherings in Norman or some other centralized place. I was at OKRF and Four Winds both a few years back and we will make Norman every year now. I like how many vendors they have...a good place to replenish accessories and garb. I've heard that Lawton may fire back up?? I also know there are lots of Texas Rennies along the Red River who might be interested in getting together. Anyway, we will hope to meet everyone from Oklahoma soon and can't wait 'till Faire season. Oh, does anyone know if they still do the New Years Eve ball in OKC? I believe it was "Scarlett's Winter Festival"?

Scarlett's didn't happen last year, and as far as I know it's not planned for this year, either.  I never had a chance to attend, but I've heard it was quite an entertaining event.  We hope to attend Four Winds at some point, but it's a bit farther, although I understand they have nice camping available.  This should be our first season at OKRF, as well.

As for Norman, we (my daughter and I, and assorted friends) will be in attendance every day, from noon at the latest until closing, as long as the weather cooperates this season!  At this point it's unclear whether we will be performing or not (we're undecided), but we'll be in character either way.  I'd love to do a meet-n-greet/tailgate there, and would have huge amounts of fun setting up a continental style pastry and mimosa breakfast!  :D

Semi-regular get-togethers during the off-season sounds like lots of fun!!!  Maybe even something like a garb/accessory exchange could be arranged, if anyone showed an interest.  I like the idea of trading/bartering instead of outright sales, but I guess either would work, as long as it was all done unofficially.  I have a small place, but I'd be willing to host a weekend event, or we could easily travel down to the Ardmore area for the day, as well.  There are also some R/Fer's in the Denton/Dallas area that might be persuaded to come along, if they knew about it... might even get a few Tulsans to make the trip down to the City if we were to meet here.  The possibilities are beginning to seem endless!!!

Gosh... I'm all fired up, now!  LOL  Let's get something started around here... since we're WAY overdue for our own Renaissance here in the state!!!

Hey Rani, Sorry it's been a month since I've really been on here. And just stoppin' by now. Let's do seriously look into gathering some Okie Rennies and have a little off-season stuff and/or get together for invasions to Faire. I'll stop by and write some more soon. Just wanted to let you know I've not left Oklahoma! I'll write you a message soon and we'll see if we can get somthing going...

Those of us around the Red River in TX would like to be a part of any Ardmore area gathering!

Good point Myra. We could meet in any of several cities and still be near N. Texas....will let you know. I joined the OKRF forums on their site and perhaps we can hook up with some more folks. I've been to the Faire at Muskogee and to be honest, I'd rather go there than to TRF...as far as the Faire itself goes. It's a nice faire, just a bit smaller than Scarby but they are very interactive and put on a wonderful Faire. And, you and Mark should plan on going up to Norman, perhaps with us. It's a great place to find good prices on garb and stuff.
