Title: Weapons at BARF?
Post by: Prima on March 21, 2013, 05:53:05 PM
In years past all weapons weren't allowed. I hadn't checked in a few years, but it appears this has changed?  Right off their site:

"Weapons Policy:
The Festival bans guns on our premises. Longbows are allowed as long as they are not strung, arrows with tips are not allowed unless you are competing in the longbow competition that day. Swords, knives, dirks and daggers must be completely sheathed and peace-tied. Axes, claymores, maces, antique firearms, pikes and halberds are NOT allowed on the Festival site. No drawing of any weapon at any time. Must be 18 years or older to carry a weapon. If you have additional questions, please contact the Festival Office at 813-983-0111 for more information."

Before we work out how to get my hubby's rapier & main gauche in checked luggage can anyone confirm that he can carry these in?

Speaking of which, anyone have successful experiencing or tips getting a Rapier/sword through air travel?

Yes, the weapons policy has changed. You will (likely) be checked at the gate, but you can bring in a rapier and main gauche.

I have not flown with renaissance weapons, so I cannot help you there. (I guess I should add, in case that raises any questions, no, I have not flown with any kind of weapon.)
