Title: Patterns for clergy?
Post by: Caligo on January 26, 2009, 04:06:34 PM
Does anyone know where I can obtain patterns for 15th or 16th century clergy garb? Or where such garb can be purchased?

clergy garb hasn't changed much since that time, but he's a link to a page about academic garb, which also covers clergy: http://home.uchicago.edu/~atterlep/costuming/academic%20clothing.htm (http://home.uchicago.edu/~atterlep/costuming/academic%20clothing.htm)
here's a page all about the creation of a cardinal's grab: http://www.historicalalterations.com/Cardinal/Cardinalconstruct.htm (http://www.historicalalterations.com/Cardinal/Cardinalconstruct.htm)

There are a couple of out of print big 3 patterns for clergical garb, one is Simplicity 7950 which has a pattern for a chasuble, and I can't lay my hands on the info for the other one, but maybe someone else knows which one I'm thinking of.

The Baretta would be  somewhat tough  to make.  I wonder if there is a pattern out there to make one. When I worked at the Costume Shop, there was a Black one that the Priests wore back in the 60's.

You can just buy them still.  But a decent one tends to be expensive and they do come in different sizes...

Mind you, if what you are looking for is more like this:(http://imspeakingtruth.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/martin-luther.jpg)

then a little more research and experimenting is needed...
