Title: 9/13 and 9/14
Post by: flidais on September 11, 2008, 06:16:36 AM
It is Wonders of the World weekend at MIRF and I'm wondering.....who will be there?

I've been slacking on my weekend update duties.  Busy! Busy! Busy!  But anywho.....

Meet and Greets at 11 each day.  Not sure of anything else in particular planned for this weekend.  Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.

I and my daughter will be in attendance on saturday.  Yeah!!!

Right now Weather.com and I are having an argument. It says rain, I say nay. Of course I will be there. Since I am useless at the meetings, just find me on your way to them. I'm in a hole in the wall on Saturday 10:30-12:00. I sing there. It's on the right as you are off to the meet. Right between the first beer and wine stand in the 100's. Easy to find. I'm going to be in Cranberry Saturday and the Blue on Sunday.

We'll be there Sunday.  Possibly Saturday, depends if I can get Sandy over her fears of leaving our Little Booger with anyone but my mom for a day.  The couple that was with us on Opening Weekend will be there as well, he with camera in hand.  Sounds like he's looking forward to taking more pictures of people this time as opposed to the Joust (which he photographed the HECK out of last time), so if you'd like a nice picture of yourself in Garb, kick him in the shin and yell "Hey you! Take my frikkin' picture!" He responds well to polite requests like that!  ;) ::) :P

We might try a one day visit this weekend. We are still undecided. My son's girlfriend has really been looking forward to going and finally has a job that doesn't require her to work weekends. She was very disappointed when I told her we weren't planning to return until closing weekend so we'll see what happens.

The next question is, what to wear???

We'll be there rain or shine, we don't care about the weather and don't let it decide when we should go, a couple years back if we thought like that we would have been at faire only closing weekend.

The only thing the weather decides for us is what outfits we wear, but we show up rain or shine (unless there are dangerous lightning packed thunderstorms).

Oooh nice pic.

I agree, I don't let the weather decide if I'll go but rather what I will go in.  We have actually had some very wonderful days at faire in the rain and cold.  Makes for some fine scottish weather.  I love the sunny days with no trace of clouds for miles, but sometimes it's fun to just sit in the rain and laugh with friends.

I just can't make it this year which really bums me out after all the years I have gone. My carpool buddy had to cancel so it left me Michiganless... I miss seeing everyone too. But, lady Ann is picking me up this years owains stage pass for RESCUE and sending it out. Thanks again

Thus I am leaving for the Des Moines faire in the morning.

I wish I didn't have to, but with surgery on the horizon, I have to be very careful not to come down with anything.  And I seem to catch a chill really easy.  If I get sick, the surgery is delayed even longer and I have been waiting way to long as it is.  Hopefully (fingers crossed) we will get to see everyone sometime this weekend.

LMAO  What a day at fair!  It was like the mud show was going on throught out the whole faire.  My niece went with me, and we were slipping and sliding all over the place. She wants to try and go tomorrow, but I just can't do it.  More of the same weather as it was today.  The grounds are a total reck.  I didn't get any picture, because it rained all day. Down pour.

Yepper... I called Lynn (Queen Catherine) Saturday and she said they got 4 inches of rain that flooded the parking area as well as a few other areas. They made the right decision. I will be going there next weekend instead.

The rain certainly turned it into a disgusting, soppy mud pit. But I met so many wonderful people, it was a good time anyway. By the time I made it to the meet and greet, everyone had already gone. But many thanks to Ladyfaire for letting me hang around the back of her booth with some of the wonderful folks I met. Everyone I met there and at the pub were so friendly and welcoming. I hope to have the chance to see you all again :)

This weekend was surly one to remember. Complete mud pit both days with Sunday closing early. It is a rare event but the shows at MIRF (at least the ones that still went on) are completely different. Most shows try have have fun when they know no money is going to be made, sort of make the best of the situation scenario. So I saw many acts that went on that would most likely never be repeated. They even did a great job getting all the people, and there was a lot of people, out of the mud in the parking lots. Except for one tow truck they called in which wanted to charge me $125.00 to get pulled through moderate mud. Luckily a jeep came by and afford to do it for free. After they got me out they refused my tip so Kudos to them for alienating vultures. Other then that and accepting the crappy weather this weekend was amazing.

We stayed away from the faire this weekend because of the rain. It was a mess around here so I can only imagine how bad it was there.

I trudged through on Sunday.  Wow!  In the nearly 30 years since I've been going, I don't remember rain ever being that bad.  Had to pack it in and leave around 4 PM because of some flooding that was occurring back at the house.

Kudos for all you players, workers, vendors and the like that still made it an enjoyable day. A few vendors were really grumpy and complaining (a couple so bad you didn't even want to step in their shop), but most were still cheery and a joy to talk to and purchase from despite the weather.  I do hope the remaining days of the faire are beautiful and enough is made to recover from this bad weekend.

No photos, unfortunately.  It was just too bad for me to risk the camera.

Will be returning for the closing weekend. The way it looks now, I'm planning on Sunday the 28th.

soon after you left.. i was wondering if those 4 tow trucks i saw were charging or if the faire called them in and paid them to pull people out..  i did get to see a group of about 8 guys or so running around like a football team helping push people that was cool.. but hell almost had my truck get stuck the instant i inched forward.. but i luckily did not.. however there is not a extremely big rut caose my rear wheels dug a trench that was just about to the axle.. lol

but i did take my camera :)

this photo below is just before they closed, near the front gate area it was 3 times worse.. the performer that is usualy at the stage you see to the upperleft was sitting on a chair and doing the talking part of his show to no one.. just the pickle sellers.. lol. started doing bits from the other acts show that uses that stage too.. was quite funny.  so i brought him a beer since he is always asking for one during his show..

in this next picture.. there is usually no water in this little stream..

We were there Saturday, but not Sunday.  I barely got out of the parking lot on Saturday, so I can only imagine what it looked like on Sunday.  The fact that the film crew that never showed up took the entire NE parking lot on Saturday made things worse.  My Grand Prix is not a car to go mud bogging in, that's for sure.  We had fun at the pub, but there was no way we were going to try and brave both days.  We will be there this coming Sunday (I have to work Saturday).

Duke Fairfax told me they closed at 4:30. I, and several other cast members, were sent home right after opening. I'm still fighting double pneumonia and got some much needed rest in the afternoon. Should be some interesting little hills and dales this week, as we are open Friday-Sunday.

I laughed and laughed slogging through on Saturday. I loved talking to the brave people who came out and the cheers from the shows was loud and raucous. Everyone that went certainly were rewarded for their courage and once you give up and just decide it's  going to be a great day, no matter what, it is!

Now I get to start washing most of Hollygrove out of my gowns.

Just consider it a free European mud treatment!

Sunday was pretty fun for me, actually.

I have to give Bocca major props for putting on a show in the rain and the goo.. It was probably their best show ever.. They probably wouldn't have gotten away with some of the stuff they did if it were a normal day...

All things considered.. For all us folks that didn't have to work that day due to the rain, it was pretty fun to tromp through the mud.

I wish I had taken more pictures.  The boyfriend and I had such a good time jumping in the mud and playing in the rain.

My boyfriend would find a small piece of ground that was surrounded by a puddle and would claim it as his island!!  LOL!!  We ran around all day on Saturday doing that.

Left extra tips to performers for performing in that kind of weather!!

The creativity this weekend was wonderful. It was amazing how everyone stepped up to the plate. The patrons, the acts, the cast. It was just something I'm thrilled I was a part of, till I was sent home early on Sunday. I was really sad about that, but no sense in making a sick person sicker :)

I agree with the "Sunday After" effects of a day in the rain on Saturday.  It's times like that that remind me I'm now over 40 and can't do the silly stuff I used to without consequences.  I have been seriously thinking of getting a "rainy day outfit" so I can go romp and be an idiot in the mud without ruining my nice stuff, but I don't know if my body can withstand the punishment anymore.

Me too, Lord Virgil. Aside from the fact that my gown was all but ruined when I got home, my legs were really sore on Sunday. As much fun as I had, I don't think I'll be going out on a day like that again anytime soon.

This was the first time I have let weather beat me at faire.  We left at 1 on Saturday, going back to our hotel to "refresh" before heading out for "Plan B."  Walking though the hotel lobby covered in mud, soaking wet, wilted flowers plastered into my hair, mud soaked cape dragging behind me, the hotel clerk nearly called security.
