Its too late. It already started and there is no looking back. Besides you would need an Oreck for something as big as 491 days.

That is sooo true- sad thing is- even though gas is cheaper we still can't afford to go to AZ :'(
You are welcome to tie yourself to the roof of our Sorento when we go. We even have a sunroof, we could pass you up some snacks from time to time.

Thank you Zoe, but I'm not falling for that again- last year I tied myself to the roof of the Sorento and you all took off in the other car. Wait- you have a sunroof? Maybe I went to the wrong house. Okay, I'll pack the hamsters and away we go!
Boy, sure wish Toki and I could go to AzRF. Don't think it will happen unless we had others to help with gas and all. :(
I would go to Arizona if I had the money, time off from work, assurance that my car would make it there and back, my new garb put together, and if I could get one of my friends to come with me as going alone would be a drag. Of course riding to faire on a hamster would probably be much cheaper.
It would probably also take you much longer! Haha.

Put a horn on it's forhead and you can have a Uni-Hamster and maybe you and the Unicorn can have much fun. The little kids won't know the difference and thinik you ARE the unicorn then with thathorn on your forhead.

Sorry, there'll be no stabbing- tis a family faire. ;)
Hmm hamster launch over the fire show?
If the said Hamster is launched over the fire show, will not said Hamster be BBQ'd, And will then BBQ'd Hamster be substituted for Turkey Legs?
It would be more historically accurate than the turkey legs, methinks.
BBQ'd hamster legs are way to small eat though.
Then we could use Bryan's lance as a skewer and fill the Waterwheel with sauce. And then we can have Moldy Teriyaki Hamster on a Stick.

Zoe- This way, when people ask if we have turkey legs, we can say, "No, they are normal, but Moldy over there..."
Lady D- huuzoo too!
If your going to grill my legs and sell them, you must remind the customers to be careful because these legs are HOT. Haha...
I feel the desire to make a joke about the hair on your legs and the hair on Demetrius' arms (or lack of hair, what hasn't been burned off yet).....but....nothing is coming to me. My brain has been in neutral the past few days.

Hi all, I'm a mid-western Rennie who's just been offered accommodations if I want to come to the Colorado Ren Faire. Um.... Yes Please!
So, what do I need to know? I'm a 30+ year Ren Veteran, participant at several faires and playtron at several more. I'd be coming for one weekend.
Thanks in advance,
Dayna Thomas
What do you need to Know? Well, let me tell you.
It's all uphill, even downhill is uphill.
It's 100 degrees, unless it rains, then it's 20.
It's dusty, unless it rains, then it's muddy.
It never rains. Unless it floods.
The weather is apt to change without notice.
But other than the weather, it's all fun. :)
I don't know how it compares to other faires, this is the only one I've been to. :'(
I second the "weather is apt to change without notice." But that just makes it an adventure. I don't THINK the faire has ever closed because of weather ...
And I'd add: Don't underestimate high elevation. Larkspur, where the faire is, is at appox. 6,700 feet. And while some people aren't effected by elevation at all, others feel it all too much. So it's doubly important to stay hydrated - more so again if you're imbibing.
It's a fun faire, and some things should not be missed ... Cast in Bronze comes to mind ...

Miss Editor, shouldn't that be affected?
Only because it's you, Blushing. :-*
Even when I'm not teaching, I can't turn the teaching off.
Things that shouldn't be missed...ooh. That's quite the list. You are coming for two full days, right?
Absolutely Cast in Bronze. He plays before each joust. The Parade. You can watch it coming and going if you hang out in the bar. Every show. Especially Charming and Dashing! And everyone else!
One of these days I'll come out there and boot the fool that's currently running our other booth and take over... ;D
Aye, ye be quite right mistress Tanda. But I try not to be TOO much of an editor when not working, otherwise I'd go nuts. =)

usage Effect and affect are often confused because of their similar spelling and pronunciation. The verb 2affect usually has to do with pretense <she affected a cheery disposition despite feeling down>. The more common 3affect denotes having an effect or influence <the weather affected everyone's mood>. The verb effect goes beyond mere influence; it refers to actual achievement of a final result <the new administration hopes to effect a peace settlement>. The uncommon noun affect, which has a meaning relating to psychology, is also sometimes mistakenly used for the very common effect. In ordinary use, the noun you will want is effect <waiting for the new law to take effect> <the weather had an effect on everyone's mood>.

You learn all sorts of interesting things when you work site crew. The elevation of the entry gate towers is 7,320 feet in elevation if I recall my numbers correctly, and that's the lowest part of the entire site of Larkspurshire.

Just a normal Sunday for me....I worked for 11 hours. *hmph*
we are travelling to this one in July and taking our 9 year old (his first one). This is our first time at this faire and looking forward to it. So far this year we have been to Arizona and Scarborough.
Is it hot in July in Denver?? May have bearing on the garb I where ;)
Hmm I would pack for freaky hot and not so hot..
You never really know with Colorado haha
Well, the weather in Denver might not be exactly like the weather in Larkspur, where the faire is, or even Colorado Springs for that matter (weather is weird near the divide, you see). Usually, it's at least a bit cooler in Larkpsur because of the elevation.
And since it's very dry here, hot temperatures don't necessaryily feel as hot as they would somewhere humid, so drinking water is even more important. Afternoon thunderstorms are fairly common, but they're not cold storms, usually!
I hope that helps.
Colorado Summers are a little like this.
Hot, unless it's not.
Dry, unless it's raining.
Still, unless it's windy.
Best advice; Wear light clothes and lots of sunscreen and carry a cloak. That way, you are ready for anything except snow....which is not outside the realm of possibility, but is unlikely.
Probably not as hot as summers in Arizona, especially in Larkspur, but plan for temperatures in the 80-100 range.
Having been coming to CoRF now for 20 years what Blushing and Adriana say is true.
I have seen it in the very high 90's with no clouds in sight, to a few clouds to great cloud cover. I have seen it rain for a few minutes to pouring rain almost snow like with temps in the high 40's with the rain (Now that is cold). I have seen it rain so hard it feels like a flood. And I have seen it in the low 50's with cloud cover and yes it does feel cold to some people. If you are not use to the temps in Colorado 50 can feel very cold. And while Denver may be sunny, Larkspur may not be or vice verse as is C. Springs.
So the best advice? be prepared for everything from the 50's to near or slightly over 100's. Drinking liquids (and I do not mean beer or wine) is a must, as are sun screen as the Colorado sun is a little more intense at this altitude. Food is also a must to keep the energy but avoid eating to much breads or yeasts,,, BEER.
The other thing to keep in mind is CoRF is up hill all the way. Good shoes are a must as I have seen many people take a spill... sliding down on the gravel and gravel burns hurt like heck.
You can keep a cooler full of water in your car and go and take breaks as need but bringing it back in is not usually allowed.
Get to the parking lot early i.e. 9am is a good time since traffic gets bad around 10 and latter on I-25. Besides opening ceremony is always fun. Getting there early also means closer parking to the gates. Most start showing up around 8:30 to 9. Denver is about 45 minutes (with normal traffic) from the faire. Larkspur is about 10 - 15. Colorado Springs? Blushing will have to answer that but I think about 45 to 60 minutes.
If you plan on being in the area a few days a trip to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are a must as are outings to Colorado Springs into Manitou Springs and The Garden of the Gods. And if headed south a side trip to Bishops Castle is a HUGE recommendation. It is south and west of Pueblo. It's in Rye to be exact and easy to find.
I hope that helps. Keep us all informed on the family visit and I hope we all see you there. Look us up and say Good Day My Lord or Lady. Coloradoan's don't bite... to hard :)
OH and the ONLY thing we can say for sure about Colorado weather is...l it will change in 5 minutes and that is a Fact... And yes Snow has happened in July and I don't mean at 14,000 feet, I mean 4800 feet which is lower than Larkspur
My personal best from home to faire parking lot is 27 minutes, but that was hitting every light right and missing the trains, but NOT speeding. (I'm close to Garden of the Gods, and there are lots of motels nearby). Time depends on where exactly you are coming from. Lots of folks find a hotel/motel in Castle Rock which is an average of 15-20 minutes from faire.

water bottles are allowed in, preferred sealed, please don't be one of the people that fill a aquafina bottle with rum or vodka. we have to make you pour it out, if you get it in you stand out after drinking it.
talking to paramedics last year, one hot day there were more than 300 people who passed out or near to it from heat exhaustion / alcohol, heat, altitude. actors were among them.

So, just to get you excited...
Site crew all reported in to work today, we've already started planting flowers and doing all the zillions of things site crew does to get the site ready that no one really notices.
I right now never want to see a yellow pansy again. You've no idea how many there are. I know I didn't... until today. And we're notwhere near done. BUT, it's looking awesome!
5 weeks till Faire!

Oh but that is were you are Wrong. I notice and a photo I took withthe water wheel and all the flowers was noticed by Jim Paradise as well as Faire Magazine. To me the flowers add SO much and I think many of us notice them and appreciate them and all the work it takes to make our faire a beautiful place.
But I am excited to see faire again and appreciate all the work everyone does to make it happen.
Yay!!
* runs screaming*
You all have a great time. I am looking at only making port in Larkspurshire port a couple times.

If only!!!
Zoe- I hear a rumor you will be on both sides of front gate...? eh? Do you need to practice?
I've been working all winter on my teleportation skills. You will be blown away. (No literally--there's a lot of wind when it happens. I'm still working on fixing that.)
Just found out that I will be home for opening weekend!!! expect me to be floating around and bringing the spawn baby

No no no- I tried this last year and it worked- you just keep showing up and eventually you hit opening weekend.
Right now the parking is fantastic. ;)
We started work on my shop today so things are starting to roll!
I just realized I'm nowhere near ready. Haha last minute stuff is almost most fun though! Have to find me a good hamster...
Thankfully, "ready" for me means getting out my garb and making sure it's clean, haha. I can do that on Friday the 12th lol.
I am SO ready... vut then again I am NOT ready... ot Ihought I was but ended up not being... confused yet.
My new dress got her on Monday but sadly the underskirt wouldn't fit around my corseted waist, and was 3" to long. The overskirt was 1/2 to 1" not wide enough, and the bodice kept wanting to fall of my shoulders. SO I had to send three out of many pieces back to be fixed and it will be a rush to have it back by start.
Oh well the issues of longdistance sewing. The lady stands behind her products and will make it right.
So while I am ready to go, my garb is not... unless I wear last years dresses... which I will do, i just wanted to wear my new dress opening day
I'm ready, but then I also spent last weekend at a faire. ;D So I even have the proper tan (evidently the sun is not that much weaker in California after all).
I've decided my newest garb ensemble can wait, the coat is likely too warm for faire anyways.
I'm just fine-tuning my faire responsibilities.
Huzzah!
I'm SOOO Ready! :D Can't wait!
yeah...so Not ready. I just not the boning sewn into the new outfit. Need to finish all the sewing...hopefully tomorrow. And then the grommets....oooh, the grommets.
Yea same here!
not with the sewing but lots and lots of other things!
Yup I am the queen of procrastonation!

Apparently I was asleep at the wheel... carnies in hamster ferris wheels... we always have the non-Renaissance types at faire- Star Wars, Harry Potter, carnamsters etc,. ;)
Don't forget the Trekkies. I hear hamster meat is a delicacy among Klingons.

And all this time I thought Klingons consumed Tribbles for they multiply faster and you need less ketchup as with hamsters which by the by, have a longer gestation period on the periodic food chain wheel table, than Tribbles.
If anyone is having trouble with orbiting Klingons, it may be time to wash those dudes outa yarr bloomers!
By the way........ 17 days til faire....... this is the countdown thread, right? Not the hamcarnanusgonklinged thread.

I got the first day of Faire off from work! I will totally be there. I just need to get my dress done....eep.

p.s. and yes- Lady de L- we know nothing of said hamster suit, but Joseph and the amazing technicolor dream doublet be almost ready!
I am only semi-ready. But as I am really not required to be ready...It's all good. lol. Im making a new bodice...but its frustrating me so its being punished by having to sit in front of my sewing machine half finished until it decides to cooperate with me. lol
But, I of course have tons of options...mix and match and such...so, Im mostly ready. ;D
You tell that unruly bodice!
I don't know about the bodice thing, but I smelled some smells today that reminded me of faire and all the great food.

Today's weather certainly reminded me of faire....and the fact that I spent the day sitting outside in the sun. Very still, hot, just a touch of moisture. Not the kind of moisture that promises rain, but the kind that just makes it seem 10 degrees hotter. Ugh.
Me too! I was listening to my Cast In Bronze CD and sitting in the sun. Makes me get very excited for it! :D
Well, no sitting in the sun for me, but a nonstop course of Blackmoor's Nights is getting me into the ren spirit. (that and my whirly gig cd's of course. :) ))

Ya know... I actually have had a shaved head and it's really not as comfy as you might think, Besides my noggin would get horribly burned and I'm not up to that. besides I want to cut my overly long bangs off in favor of short bangs after faire and by shaving my forehead totally bald I might scare the little kids off and I don't want to do that. That job is up to the Hamster lover. Notice no names mentioned.
I still HAVE my hair ... but I still got rather fried at another faire a few weeks ago. An early reminder to use sunscreen. Lots of it. =)

hamsters, mice, gerbils, rats.......
just remember, they ALL must be shaved before going into the deep fryer and onto the stick.

That's it. I'm not gonna eat meat on a stick again.
You mean... You have never heard of that delecacy... Rats on a Stick?
I always think of that when I see Steak oon a stick. I always think the seller should yell that out instead.
OH So Yummy
Monkey on a stick, yes, even cat on a stick depending on where your visiting. (though they probably won't admit to it). But Rat on a Stick? New one on me.
Though it might help kick up sales.
I do believe the phrase "Rats-on-a-stick" stems from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Hmm...it does sound like something they would do. Looks like I'll be watching the movie again sometime soon.
In the movie "Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou" they had the fine delicacy of gopher on a stick. "no thanks, Delmar. A third of a gopher would only whet my appetite and not bed it down for a night".
So, this year, steak on a stick will thus be known as....impaled critter. Or mystery meat on a stick if you will.
Just don't let Capt. Dungeon Spleen talk about steak on a stake ... really, truly ...
I must admit, hearing the old captain's take on steak on a stick just might be interesting.
*glances about*
Ok, maybe not.
Remember who we're talking about, now.

"Gold Strapped?"
Methinks I'm missing something that will become painfully obvious once you explain it...
No funds...money...had a inhertance stuck in perpetial limbo by the IRS.

As of six o'clock, it's two days and counting to ren! Darn...time is gooooinngggg too slow.
Also, I find it rather humorius that when I mention the ren fair to folks, they think it starts the weekend after this one. Until they realize that today is the 10th, and it starts the 13th. Just a interesting little tibit.
Just checked www.weather.com to see how tomorrow will look. Day should start in the low 50's make it up to the low 60's with a 50 percent chance of rain. Now everyone in colorado knows you have a better chance of winning the lottery than trusting the weather man but hope this helps people.

YES So very true you are.
This morning it was blue skies all abound with nye a cloud in sight, but we are expecting rains again this later afternoon/evening.
Oh and for our friends visiting. If the skies open up and we get alot of rain if you have a little one that gets washed away just remember this. If you are in the lanes that are down slop to the joust you can pick up said little ones there. If you are anywhere else in the faire they will be washed toward the entrance gate and your little ones can be picked up on your way out. Now if the pirates arn't to drunk they may be sending out pressgangs to pick them up before you so be warned.
On a side note to the little ones, keep a good hold of your parents around the pirates pub cause you may loose said parents there.

I, for one, believe you might be referring to a certain captain spleen, since I very seldom use press gangs. Bribes work so much better. :)
I decided that Zoë is going into the storage crate at least for this weekend and instead I'm going to let Elizabeth out of the box for the first time. I just made a new garland and some little bits and bobs for her garb, so it's all ready to go. Hooray!
Only hours to go before cannon! And for me, only a couple hours before I get to be back on site to camp and final rehearsal, and that's good enough! See everyone soon!
Only a few hours left, and frankly, all sorta of thoughts, positive and not so, are sending my mind racing. But ya know, I'm thinking this will be a pretty good season, *and hopefully will include my actually getting a new pair of native earths....my poor boots took quite a beating this past year*
