Title: R/F.com Theme?
Post by: DeadBishop on May 08, 2008, 01:00:18 AM
Here are 4 choices.....what do you think?  Even if we choose something and we don't end up liking it, we can always change it.  Nothing is set in stone here.  Just thought I'd give everyone a chance to give their input.

Simple Machines also lets the user select from various default themes, too, doesn't it (in your profile, under "look and layout preferences)?  So even if something you hate gets chosen, there are still options.

I really dis-like "black" forums...no mater what text color you select on a black background it appears harsh and difficult to read.  I vote for anything but black!

This guy is a little creepy don't you think?---->  :-*

One Thousand posts, and back to one... :'(

Black?  Ugh!  I agree with Noble Dreg.  It is hard to read and a bit depressing too

Decisions decisions ... personally I like them all - preferably something easy on the eyes!

We should have something defiant, saying "You can't kill us!"

What we have is fine. The black is hard to read.
And the image by NaughtyMage says it all. From the ashes we will rise again.

I'm not too crazy about the dark background either. Dark text on a light background is easier on the eyes, IMO. Love the phoenix logo!

I'm with the majority...what we have is fine with me. You know, those of us that are a certain age have a little difficulty with the dark backgrounds...makes it hard to see  ;)

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm going to keep the most popular light and dark background, that way everyone has a choice of which one they want in the end.    :)

Yes, I like the phoenix logo too (thanks NM!), but unfortunately there is a "Phoenix Project" that has to do with helping out Rennies and artists in need, and I wouldn't want to step on toes or have people confuse us with another renaissance festival group.

Anything but a dark background - these old eyes aren't what they used to be.

D'oh! Oh well, I'll have to design another logo then, maybe something with pink unicorns and magical tapirs or something...

Hmmmm...

What's suitably ressurectey...

Why not the old R/F logo, but rising from the Flames.  Flames licking at the shield but not burning.  I think it shows the resiliancey(sp) of us rennies.

What do you think??  A bit of the old to go with the new?

DB,

I love it.  I wonder if it is possible to make the limited edition pins slightly larger than the normal ones?  Or would that be too difficult?  Perhaps a half inch taller and then whatever increase in width required to keep the relative proportions the same.

I think the key is keeping it clearly recognizable a RF.com pin.

Regards,

CB

Sorry we got kinda sidetracked on logos when this thread was specifically about the actual look of the forum itself, hence the voting poll.  Any further discussion about R/F pins will be in the dedicated thread.

I vote against the black/dark colors as well.  Too hard to read, and kinda depressing.  :D

Thanks for letting us give input!

That's why I missed this forum so much.  Talented and creative people with a sense of humor.

It's also interesting that all these people chime in about not liking the dark background but number 3 is getting the most votes.  I'm sure DB will set it up so you can choose which ever you like.  I prefer the dark background because the white screen is what is harsh and hard on the eyes.  Depressing should be determined by the content, not the look.

I do miss seeing the faces of friends on top.  Even though they are seen over and over, I still smile when someone I know shows up.  I hope someday we can have that feature back.

Oh, and how about a spel chek?

God, yes.  Larger and bold like Max and Kate's post.  I haven't seen anybody mention that but some did say their eyes were not what they used to be so they didn't like the black background.  White on black helps a bit but the font is so small that it's a strain to read.

I know you can change the font size but you have to do it on every post.  A larger font should be the default.

Perhaps every time you click on a link a rum level in a bottle icon gets lower and if it gets empty you are drunk for one hour and all the text is blurred for an hour.

Google is your friend.  Google it with the quotes and you'll see the Irish joke that the conversation reminded me of.

I'd like to think someone got it.  It's an old joke but it tears me up every time I hear it.

I love the fire bird too, but it looks way too close to the Ruger logo and Ampgard uses the phoenix as there Kingdom Device.

I do agree dark on light works better - but it's great you're giving us the choice!

So far as the logo.. might I be so bold as to suggest that as much work and money as our gracious host has put into the site itself, to say nothing of the pins and all, it would be best to stick with his "R/F Shield" logo? Now, that same shield with critters and armour bits all around it like in the various coats of arms pictures out there - that might be neat, and a nice place for a Phoenix, should it be desired. But in some form or another, I think his shield needs to stay.

All that said... any chance we can get a preview on what else is happening to the website proper? :)

Just to clear things up, the "theme" was a vote for overall forum appearance, not a new "logo".  What you have for choices now is what the general consensus showed.
