Title: Michigan Renaissance photo of the day
Post by: canonman on August 19, 2008, 10:34:40 PM
I think most people like to look at pictures. I'd like to start a thread here where instead of sending a link to all of your pictures just pick out one picture at a time and put it here. I see lots of cameras at the fair so post your favorite shots here for all to see. I'll start it out with a shot of the Queen and one of her youngest loyal subjects.. enjoy

The baby is in awe of Madge Estes offering such a sweet audience, and knows fussing is not needed. :)

I'll add a few more opening day photos, thanks for the compliments. I was hoping more more pictures would show up on this thread. I'll keep uploading from time to time.

Does anyone else have any pictures of baby Cayden with Her Majesty.  The baby's parents took a picture, but it didn't come out very well and they are hoping that someone has a really good one (like the one shown) that they can have.

But what a cute little mushroom!  Is that the garb you usually wear so I know what to look for?  You're a difficult person to locate!

Nice pic Graphicknight, thanks for posting.  For Cyron and those wondering, in the pic from left to right:

I am a pig and I drop stuff on myself all the time. Saturday it was turkey grease, so I have four dresses in rotation. Another just like the blue one, and two are ladder laced green (light and dark) Italian numbers. I speak in a norther Italian accent and when I'm actually singing in Italian while I walk down the lanes, can be heard coming from a long ways away. All my hats are made just like that. I want to put feathers on them, but time keeps getting away from me.

More still to come.  I'm rather slow going through them all at the moment as I'm in the midst of shooting senior photos for the upcoming school year.  Hopefully I'll have them all up by the end of the coming weekend.

Cheers!

@Cyron...

Yeah, I do it it as a second profession/job.   Photojournalist for a hometown newspaper.  Feature and sports stuff, mostly. Weddings and portraits on the side. Helps to pay the bills.

Someone was taking a picture of me slogging through the mud and laughing my head off. I wish I had that photo. I could not catch him to find out who he was.

Cyron,

You must have made it to the pub just after Barb and I left.  We had a party to go to and were going to leave early anyway, but the pouring rain made it easier to do so.

You had mentioned you had lost all your stuff in a move, and you weren't wearing the armor on Highland weekend when I met you.  So, thought it was new.  Anyhow, very cool.  Will try and catch up with you this coming Sunday if your there.

That little kitten that woman is bottle feeding was sooooooo cute.  She found it in her flowerbed.  She wasn't sure if it was abandoned by it's mother or not, so she took it in.  I wanted to steal it from her (I was a pirate that day afterall).

The woman is my sister in law, Pam.  She almost didn't go that day but, in true Rennie fashion, decided to take the kitten with her.  He's so young his eyes were just opening Friday and Saturday, but he's got a big appetite!  Several people offered to buy, steal or give the kitty a good home, but Pam's bonded with him.  She even named him Precious.  My thanks to all those new friends who made them feel so welcome.  As a Bristolian I can only say Hollygrove is awesome!

Carl and Donna:  Excellent photo!

These are my husband's and my photo's of the day. We took our 5 week old baby daughter, Lucy Elizabeth Anne to the Michigan Festival yesterday and I went to take Lucy to see Her Majesty once again although she saw Lucy two weeks ago sleeping in her pram and gave her blessing. As Lucy was awake this time, crying a little as she was hungry, Her Majesty held Lucy and gave her blessing again and here are pictures that my husband took. Thank you again Your Majesty, your blessing was truly beautiful. :)

September 28th 2008 Gallery:

First time I saw this family perform.  Wow!  Such energy.  Took lots of shots of their performance (loved their costumes) so I gave them their own gallery:

I agree nliedel, the 1st time it was right on time was the last time, gotta love it!!  Even though not perfect, the cannon man was much better this year than in the past.  It took away our fun yelling BOOM to compensate for the very late/non-existant cannon!

My favorite part of these pictures is that I am conspicuously absent. Bonus points to sneaky photographers (That means not you, Cyron, you walked up to me and made me pose) who managed to get me during the day.

I think I must move around too much.

Looks to me like you may have been hiding in the pub. hmmmm, lol.

Odd part is, that's the most time I spent in the pub all year, after-hours included.

The truth is young woman draw a lot more photographers at the faire. Most of the pho-tags being male. Like me, your chest is not large enough. You could try bagels.

You don't need to have a big chest to attract photographers. Women in general do look better than men, look far better dressed up in costume or garb and if you play the game by the numbers, women generate the most traffic on the websites. Jessica the jeweler for example. She has had the number one spot on my photo website for over 4 years. It's not that she has a large chest or is the most beautiful woman at the faire but she "looks" great in her garb, has a natural look for the part she portrays and is very photogenic. I think men have a harder time looking believable in the parts they dress up for. But there are a few that are exceptionable without doubt. The Dutchman is a good example. He draws a crowd everywhere he goes. Men, women and kids of all ages love him.

i dont discriminate.. if you have garb/costume on and i see you there is a high likelyhood i am taking your pic :) (which older and/or larger men and women seem surprised when i ask).. on the flip side though i am convinced there are more women in garb at faires then men... i try to get everyones pic that i see.. but i see alot of girls by themselves or with significate others where she is the only one in garb.

I too believe there are far more women than men at faires in garb. Years of attendance at many, many faires has shown that.

I've noticed the ratio of women to  men being dressed up too. I've actually not taken pictures of fantastic looking people because they were with another not in garb. It kind of spoils the shot.

PS. We missed you guys at the faire today.  :(

Did I post this one yet?  :) Fake or not, if you get hit with a pole while you are riding a horse that is running and another person is doing the same thing except going in the opposite direction, then ya, I'd say it's gonna hurt!

I was at the top of the hill by the Gazebo looking into the jousting pit. I was right next to a blue hat (until he asked me to not shoot). The 'Bigma' at 500mm provide ample reach.   ;D

We were pretty close then. I was to your right at the top of hill with Jessica the Jeweler and my son. She was walking her friends Rottweiler... Then I went down the hill and talked with one of the crew members and shot some stuff with him by the rail.

Here's a shot I was just playing with from the 2008 MIRF season. I kind of like the noise in this one. The shot was taken in total darkness...

Very Cool!  is this an IR shot?
Title: Re: Michigan Renaissance photo of the day
Post by: Jon Foster on April 17, 2009, 10:05:47 PM
Thanks. Nope, it's not an IR shot. The picture was taken in almost total darkness and severely under exposed. I was playing around with it today and managed to pull it back enough to actually see something. But the heavy grain/noise became very obvious so I did a bit more tweaking and finished it off with a Sepia conversion.

Very nice work.   If you don't mind my asking, how was 'Hob's House' done? (The kinkade like shot), and yes I've named that shot as it is fine work!  :)

The Hob shot was done in Photoshop. It's a series of duplicated layers, Gaussian Blur, high pass and channel mixing. I usually just play with the shots until I like the way they look.

Thanks Tony. There's lots of stuff online to help you learn Photoshop. I can also give you a hand if you need some help. Just ask away...

I've been looking at my pictures on new monitors and can see so many problems with so many of them it's embarrassing. Time to fix everything!

That one of the pirate is very cool. It's sort of creepy and dark like a 19th century pic. always looks.
