Title: Central Texas Renaissance Faire
Post by: Lady Rosaline on January 28, 2009, 10:21:49 AM
Any one know of this faire? I was thinking of making a trip up there this year for it. Have any of you all been to it or heard tale of it.

They have a website up and I just heard it is going on - 3 weekends in Feb- 7&8th, 14&15th, and 21&22nd and one in June20&21. I plan to go for a few trips. I wish they would post about it on this forum.
It is in Lockheart at the old Excal Site.

here's the website
http://www.centraltexasrenaissancefaire.com/
The GPS coordinates listed are: N 29°, 55.090' by W 97°, 30.190'
I don't see anything on Google Earth that looks like a ren faire though.

It is very small.  Also a very wooded area!

Some of the structures are visible on Yahoo Maps (Broadband), since they've got a newer aerial photo than Google Maps.

Thanks everyone!
Has anyone been? I know it's a newer fair, but does it have a faire feel to it? Or more of a Rennie gathering in a park? I'm just trying to get a feel for it. I saw Moon)Dawg's pics of it from last year (I guess). It looked like everyone was having fun but they didn't show too much of the grounds.

It is a Faire!  Lord A and I went every day when it was Excalibur and it was great. I went once last year. I am hoping more vendors and performers will be there this year.

"How was it?" It is a small faire and seems to be willing to work with anyone who enters the grounds. Of course there is a burn ban going so no campfires were allowed, all firepits had to be enclosed, mine is!! The winds were fierce all day!! Needless to say,the group around the firepit was varied but fun was had by all! I even got to play Zaubon's role (In a very small way!) and fed any and all who graced the camp. I brought sausages, tortillas potatoes onions and enough fixin's for the two days we stayed. I also took water and sodas, most of the water came home with me and the sodas were used as a "Mixing Agent" by the others in camp! So for the next two weekends,if you are anywhere near Dale,Texas and feel the urge to attend a small, family oriented faire, you're in luck!!!
PS Say "Hi" to Lady MOM from Martin Montgomery!!

Well, I really wanted to make a trip CTRF this year but if I'm going to be able to make Scarby I'll have to pass this time. Finances don't permit both right now. :'( The bonus that i had coming was much smaller than expected. I'll have to plan it out better for next year. Thanks to all who replied.

We'll be going this weekend, arriving Saturday and camping that night.  Very excited as Excal when it was onthat site was my first faire, so even being very small, it's sort of like "going home" to me.  I haven't the foggiest notion where we will be camping, but roam around till ya find us if you're camping out there - we'll have plenty of food and beverage I expect!  Or perhaps we will see you in faire :)

Drake and I shall be there, along with Amy and Andi/Indigo.  We plan to get there early so we can set up camp and then head in at opening.  We will keep our eyes pealed so that we may say hello to you :)

Don't know if anyone else is camping, but we will be there with loads of boudain - too much for us to eat I'm sure lol.  Anyone is welcome to stop by, have a bite or a drink with us and say hello!

Back from CTRF! It was such FUN!  Great to see so many friends there! I am glad I went. So many happy memories of that site! They had a good crowd out for a cold overcast day.
The food was good! It was BYOB. Scott Boswell and his group were wonderful and the bellydancers as well! I won a whip from Dark Cloud! The cats are happy because they think it is a toy!
It is a pleasant trip there- and I hear next weekend is a PIRATE INVASION! Don't tell my evil Twin Sister. I bet she will steal the MeowMobile and go out there! Yo Ho! Spread the word to all the pirates you know- but not HER!  This is a happy fun small faire!  Go! Enjoy!

We had such a wonderful time this weekend!  It is small yet but so fun.  Camping was fun, too.  We watched Jugging and had lots of fun at the Dark Cloud auction both days.  We'll be going again this weekend.  You should definitely try to make it out if you haven't yet!

Great pics, MoonDawg! Was good seeing ya again. We had a great time at the faire and can't wait to go back. First place I'll go when we get there is the Amtgard field to see what time the jugging begins. lol.

I'm going to try to make it out again this Saturday night/Sunday, last weekend was almost too much fun (assuming that there's any such thing). Wish I didn't have so much packing to do, I'd be out for the whole weekend!

We had another great weekend at Central Texas Ren Faire. Got there Saturday morning right as the rain was clearing up, set up camp, garbed up, and went into the faire. It was just like being back home again. Of course, we headed straight for Amtgard for the jugging schedule. lol. Then to Renshirts for some good garb stuff. Then to Dark Cloud for raffle tickets. During their auction, Drake got some great armor at a really good price. Spent the day shopping, watching the entertainment, and hanging out with everyone. Saturday night was cold, but Tom had bought me an outside propane heater and the 20 gallon propane tank for it. We put curtains around three sides of the ez-up and it was toasty warm inside. Plus we had the fire from the holy grill outside the ez up. I got a wee bit tipsy because Sonata forced me to drink stuff on an empty stomach. lol. It was brutally cold in the little tent Saturday night. Next time I'll sleep in the ez up with the propane heater. We had a great time around the campfire of course, and we had Teiwaz and Rigor to entertain us (Amy, Lionel, Sammi, Drake, Sonata, Rick, Corvin, and me).

Sunday morning Jerry Garcia gave us a hilarious reinactment of a dance he'd done in front of his tent that morning (long story there. lol). Back into faire. Hung out, shopped, watched the parade and Crow get knighted. Waiting, waiting, then finally it was time for Amtgard's jugging tournament! Fantastic game! Mr Smiley (the skull they fight over) had his jaw broken off during the games. Amy, Sammi and Medea were given the parts, which I think they are going to turn into pendants. After the games, Warlock and the fighters presented me with the skull and said lots of nice things and greatly honored me. I was speechless, and still am. They are great friends. During the games, these guys/gals beat the crap out of each other and were dead tired, but they kept playing cause the audience was yelling for more. There were danes there who had never been to faire before, but plan on coming out for the next one now. Then it was more shopping, visiting, etc. I'd won a coupon from the Golden Dragon for a free Chili Special the week before, so they found me and told me they were almost sold out but were saving one for me. It was delicious! After that, it was sadly time to leave and for me to break camp. The rest of our camp spent Sunday night there cause they couldn't force themselves to leave.

The next CTRF will be in June for one weekend, June 21-22, so everyone show up, have a great time, and support this faire and the great people who are running it. And don't forget, Amtgard is having a jugging tournament March 20 at their Spring Wars.

What a fun, fun couple of weekends we had, and I think this was the best!  I loved being there, especially as Excal when it was at that site was my first faire, so it was very much like going home for me.  So much fun with my fairemily, seeing friends and making new friends!  Drake could not be more excited about his armor and is already anticipating the rest of it which should be here in a couple of months.  I cannot say enough how much I love the Dark Cloud guys and gals - they are a great bunch and really took care of us the past two weeks with much of our garbing!  And the Amptgard guys and gals - what a wonderful, fun, and kind group.  I love them so much - they give there all to entertain us and keep on going because we want to see more :)  Such great new friends there!

I had such fun and I can't wait for the June faire.  I hope more of you can make it out in June and support this wonderful faire :)

My Evil Pirate Twin went out Sunday. Of course I let her drive the MeowMobile- but she always prefers to think she stole it! PIRATES!
The weather was perfect and the folks there are the best!
She enjoyed the chicken on a stick! Yummy! Those food vendors are fantastic!
She even made a fool of herself belly dancing!
Twas much fun! I plan to go again in June!
Huzzah for CTRF!
