Title: Lodging for RenDezvous 2010- Scarborough Faire, Waxahachie, TX
Post by: Blue66669 on September 16, 2009, 08:46:30 AM
Hey all! We're about 7 or so months out, so I wanted to go ahead and post lodging info for the area. Hotels will be in the first post, with info about local campgrounds and RV parks following. We were able to secure a block of rooms at the Super 8 hotel, which is about 2 miles from the faire. It is where most of us stay when we attend. It's clean, fairly priced, and used to Rennies!

Rates for the Super 8 for the weekend is 75.00 per night for a double, and 65.00 per night for a single. They don't have issues with ppl sharing rooms either. It's definitely more economical if you can find roomies! If this is the hotel that you'd like to choose, please PM me so that I can give you the contact information. Also, there's a Best Western next door that is pretty awesome as well. So, if Super 8 isn't your thing, BW may be better for you (and the breakfast is GREAT- they actually have a "build your own waffle" station).

Ok! So here's the list!!!

(Um, hey, do me a solid if you don't mind. When you book your hotel, please let us know where you're staying, so that we can have a hotel master list! Thanks!)

Hmmmm, I'll call them and find out...

*update*

I just called the hotel, and they're talking to management about meeting the price of 55 for single bed, and 65 for double beds. I'll make any changes as soon as I have more info, but I'm sure that this should go through.

If this might help anyone:

I made our reservations for Super 8 through the hotel's website.  You have to put in a credit card, but the card is not charged, and you have until 6 p.m. on the day of arrival to cancel before they charge the card.

I made the reservations so it wouldn't be sold out if we waited.  However, April is a long way away, and things could change about us being able to attend, so I liked the peace of mind by booking it with the Super 8 website instead of Expedia, Priceline, or Travelocity, which would either be nonrefundable or have cancellation penalties.

We plan to be there, and at least our hotel is taken care of.  Now how we're getting there is the next thing to work on!   ;D

Every year...I hear people talk about not being able to get a room...or having to sleep on the floor of another persons room... with the Rendezvous being at Scarby this year.... I would STRONGLY suggest you get your rooms now.

Other than the hotels Blue and everyone has talked about.... there's not a lot of places to stay that are near the Faire.
The Rodgers hotel in town is a very old and nice place to stay but it's HAUNTED ! ! !

So...get your rooms now.... no crashing at my house!

And hug Blue for all the work she is doing and will continue to do.

Aye hats off to Blue and the others that are putting this RenDezvous together. Lots of hard work goes into this sort of thing.  I am fortuneate enough to live close enough that a room at the inn will not be needed.  Again, thanks Blue.

Rhyk and Jezz the Belle (Rick and Sherry) are booked at the Super 8!!!  Can't wait to meet everyone! We will hit the motel at about 8 p.m. (driving down from Bowie after work on Friday) and stay through Sunday. Oh, the lady did say that bookings were picking up and she thought they were more than half booked for that weekend already. If you want the Super 8, might jump in there. We did book a double so if the couple that is supposed to come with us don't attend we could have an empty queen bed...

Not nececelery (from one who, until recently, was in the hotel reservation industry):

Single: 1 person, 1 bed
Double: 2 people, 1 bed
Double-double: 2 people, 2 beds

So make sure what you have reserved or you may just be sharing a bed with someone  ::)

Well, that's good. And you'll have enough of us around to certainly feel safe.

Last time I stayed at a Super 8 was also for a Renfest that I shall not name, for the conditions at the motel are no reflection on the Faire. But on that occasion, I was extremely glad I had blades with me, and very happy to get out of there without having to use them. I probably should never have checked in. All the nearby strip clubs should have been a hint that this was not the best neighborhood. But it was one of those prepaid deals and sometimes I can be too cheap for my own good.

OK, enough hijacking the thread ...

I've stayed in a couple of those, Blue... there was this hostel, in Germany, where the fleas counted cadence, as they marched toward the beds and they had war games with the bed bugs all night long.  Couldn't get a lick of sleep.   :D

It looks like the Pink Pirate and I are planning to be camping at the Super 8. We will call in the reservation this afternoon.

In HS a group of us when on a weekend trip with a friend of our's parents.  The parents were being cheap, and went to some really ratty place.  That way in their mind all of the High schooler's could afford to pay for their own room.   When we pulled up to our door we saw a guy come out, belch uninate over the railing , then hollar out some rather vulgar things atthe woman in his room.   The Highschoolers decided that we would just all pool our  money and share a room  at the neighboring howard Johnson's.  Needless to say I'd rather pay a little more for a clean, and safe, then just plain cheap.  /shutters at memory

Can't wait to see everyone.  ;D

I just released the last of our rooms for the weekend. If you are in need of a room, you can either call them to see what's left, or go hunting out in the cold world for a place to stay LOL!

I reserved through the hotel directly, so I'm probably not counted in the RenDezvous room count.  But we'll be there in 6 days!
