I always had a strange affinity for the sword given to Jack by the fairies in Legend (that the fool lost).
Also (and very few, if any, under my age -34- will probably have any idea what I'm talking about here) the Mindsword from Hawk the Slayer.
I really dig the rapier worn by Maffio (Oliver Platt) in Dangerous Beauty.
I love the early, stout, transitional rapier given to D'Artagnean by his father in The Three Musketeers(1974), that was unfortunately broken in the early part of the film.
(You'll forgive me that I didn't quite feel up to loading VLC Player, putting in my DVDs, taking screen caps, hosting them at Photobucket to post them here. I figure most of you own most of these movies... and if you don't... what are you doing here?!? ;D )
Eric, without pictures I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never even heard of most of those films. I'm here because of an interest in historical arms armor and clothing, not because I like corny movies (I don't). So excuse me for not knowing what made-up swords you're referencing. :-\ ;D

That's only a partial geek list however. I know that there's plenty other attractive swords that I dig in historic artwork as well as fantasy game art and pulp sword & sorcery book covers, etc.

I am coming in on this a little late and have not been following, but I for one did not need the picture as I knew exactly what you were talking about. I always felt that the way the movie ended left it open for a sequel however it was never to be. With the construction of the hilt being the major drawback I should think that with the proper battery pack and a small glass bauble of some sort, the mind sword could be made. Some thing to think about.
As to another "cheesy" movie for a replica possibility, are the two swords in the original 1954 version of Prince Valiant. In fact I have made a close replica of the sword used by James Mason in the movie. I use for knightings at the two faires that I am on cast with. If ever I can get around to hauling out some of the pictures I have of it I will send you one. I have written to Robert Wagner website over a year ago asking for info on the composition of those blades, but that was over a year ago and I have gotten no answer so I guess I never will.

Not to worry, you can find it on E-bay regularly, however I think only VHS, maybe DVD. That is why it is good to hang on to the old technology for a while. I have(and all functional BTW) disc, beta, vhs, and dvd. You never know what you will run into at fleas markets. The blades were massive. the biggest broadswords I have ever seen, I would say a good 3" - 4" in width. The way they wielded them about like cutlasses I woulds say thay were made out of something other than metal. That is why I wanted to find out from Robert Wagner the finite details, as he is the only one left that would know something about it.

Lord Eric, I recently purchased this very movie for my princess' collection. It came in DVD, and I purchased it from Amazon. You could also download it from google videos using some video capture magic that's available for free......if you look in the right places.....

yeah, if you watch the combat it is pretty classic 50's sword fighting. Doesn't matter if it is a broadsword or rapier.

If you watch the movie it is even more amazing. I really need to find out what those blades were made of because toward the end of the fight they were swinging them around like cutlasses.

You are absolutely right, it is based on the Micheal Whelan's artwork and is said to be endorsed by Michael Moorcock as the most accurate depiction of the sword. Another tidbit of trivia is that Moorcock is said to own a copy of it as well.

This is a very classic Side Sword. There is a replica almost exactly like this made by CAS Hanwei. The only difference is the extended "swept" crossguard (and no one really makes "gold" swords at least that are worth anything from a practical standpoint). I own this sword as part of my collection, and it is a very nice indeed.

I've been looking for a really good quality early empire roman gladius....I'm always worried that whichever one I buy will have a rat tail tang and break easily...
That and a really good cutlass circa 16-1700s. I love the look of jack sparrows hanger but don't want to carry a jack sparrow sword as a pirate....maybe something along those lines though..

If you want a high end Roman blade, check out http://www.albion-swords.com. The Fullham and Mainz blades are earlier roman blades more associated with the Republic but the Mainz was in use in the early first century AD. The Pompei style gladius (The "Pedite") are from the 1st Century AD onward or "Early Empire".
For a less expensive alternative you could shop through www.soulofthewarrior.com. None of his blades will have a rat tang as they are intended for demonstration and use for reenacting.
I don't have a picture but there was a UK tv show years ago called "The Wanderer" with Bryan Brown. His character carried an Oakeshott type 19 sword with a ring on the guard on one side. In the fuller right after the guard there was a citrine set.

It is not a sword, but I always liked Princess Buttercup's dagger and velvet lined box in The Princess Bride.
I would like to find a nice simple rapier like Inigo Montoya's, just not gold and gem stone, I like the El Cid type of sword, with a couple of simple changes.
I like Rapiers, just not 3-ringed and all that, I would like a simple handguard, and a flat grip and and flat coin-shaped pommel, basically a rapier that would lay almost flat against my hip.
While I don't see nearly as many, there are 'half basket' rapiers, thas have the same swept type guard, but it only goes to the one side, so as to not bounce on the hip, while still protecting the back of the hand. I'll see if I can find any pics.

I have been looking for a Rapier with a simple guard, and a coin shaped pommel, all the swept-hilt stuff I have been seeing is way to ornate and fancy for my tastes.
........my lady friend and I were watching some older B movies (Fantasy, Barbarian,female swashbucklers) ........and being in her
warrior , sword fighter mode, she liked a small Viking, celtic sword. So instead of some bright shiny objects or flowers I made two swords for her /us These are lighter and a bit smaller than broadswords..........being a metal worker helped, but they still took a few months to complete, along with the scabbards I made. anyway, showing them here.

What I'd love to have isn't so much a cool historical blade, but I have a friend who's an artist, he got a cheap Norman-style sword, so he re-did the hilt and etched in Futhark down the blade "pointy end goes in the other guy".
How about the swords from the "Sword and the Sorcerer" Especially that 3 bladed sword that the hero had where the 2 outer blades were on some sort of seat ejector mechanism and you could shoot them out like a spear gun.

Fortunate to already have the replica I desired. This is an exact museum class replica of the 12th Century Sword of Saint Maurice of Turin, which Albion Armourers makes. Being the rather anal person that I am, I made a historically accurate scabbard with intregal belting to carry it to faire, etc.

Impractical. But as a fan of fantasy cinema, it's hard not to love that thing anyway! :) Plus, it had the dagger inside the grip.
