If you go to the Iowa State Fair-visit the DMRF (Sleepy Hollow Sports Park) booth in the Varied Industries building, and grab coupons for $2.00 off the gate price.
Enter the drawing to win free tickets!

*Edited for correct building name.

David and I plan to be there for the opening weekend 1-3rd.
Hopefully we can get up there on the 9th  (I have to work Saturday)
The 15-16th is the same as the Quad City Celtic Games in Davenport (Clans Cochrane and Davidson tents) so we will miss closing weekend again.
I have the annual garland offering for the fairy tree memorial, and I need to see about an idea for favors..gotta dig through the craft stuff. Hubby still needs sleeves (mine are done).

I've been going just since the move to Sleepy Hollow.
Hubby has been going since the waterworks park days, since this is/was his 'home faire'.  We live in Omaha, but would never miss going to at least one weekend each year.  I just love watching it get a little bigger each year!

We'll look for you! Do you go by 'Sunshine' or 'Hey You in the Yellow?'
We are Patty and David, aka ;Lord and lady Davidson'
I just hope it's cool enough for the noble garb.  I put a lot of work into it!

The weather I see is very small chance of rain, but plenty of heat (upper 80's - great for the noble garb). Since I am the mayor, can I wear shorts?  ::)

Do slops and fishnets qualify as shorts?

Does anyone have a recent picture of the grounds this year? Hopefully all the lovely flowers made it through the drought.

I made it out yesterday and the flowers didn't look as good as last year, but the ornamental grass looked really good. But all in all I would say it's coming along just fine.

It was a fun weekend (well the two days we were there).  We enjoyed being Mayor and Hostess and interacting much more with the patrons and cast.

Glad to finally connect the dots with Rowan and also great meeting Sunshine.

The weather was also great 9I thought it was supposed to be hot  :P )

Good to see you and your Lady again too, though some how we missed Sunshine.
It was too hot for what I was wearing!  We lasted 4 hours, then were outta there.   Next weekend is Celtic and I can dress in much cooler clothing....

Freaking amazing weather at the faire yesterday! Much cooler, sunny, and huge crowds. Standing room only at all the shows.
We met sunshine, (Thanks for the adorable favor), Lord Clisto, Have Court, will Travel, 3 pints gone,  The Mccrakken brother's Mad Scots, and many others...
Haggis chips, frozen cheesecake, crepes and porkchops on a stick. Seriously wonderful day. Looks to be the same weather today!
We showed up about 11:30 and it was 6:00 before we knew it, and the Closing show was in full swing.  One more day of Celts, and the Pirates take over next weekend.

I've been having a wonderful time at the faire so far! It's been lovely meeting everyone (I think it's impossible for you guys to get any nicer, really I do), and I'll have to post some pictures once I manage to get them all sorted out.

Planning to go pirate this weekend (that is, switch out the flowers in my hair for the red bandana and wear stripey socks) and soak in the ambiance. :)

David and I plan to stop in on closing day, on our way back from the Quad cities Celtic games in Davenport. Don't know if we will dress pirate or Celt again...depends on how hard it will be to assemble the garb.

Edit:  Weather is going to be great again this weekend-sunny and 70's both days!

He wore it all day at the Games.  We won best Clan tent ^_^ and a bottle of 12 year old single malt.

We were in jeans yesterday.  We didn't even make it to the gate before the first "Why aren't you in uniform?" was yelled.

We attended the 'breeching' ceremony for a young Lord....I forgetz.  We had mead and cake, that I remember.

If you need a witness to the kidnapping of the King-I can name names now that I'm not looking down the barrel of a flintlock.. Danged pirates.

We had a good run this year!  Can't wait 'till 2013!

I gather from the Book of Faces, that we had a vandal attack at the site last night. Sometimes the local performers wait till the following weekend after closing to clear out all their stuff, and some food vendors  and Children's area equipment was tore up, thrown around, and some items were stolen.
Looked to be kids who wanted to destroy things.
Hopefully they left the fairy tree memorial alone this time. I didn't hear that they left grafitti.
  Sucks.

I'm experimenting with Mejuba, and uploaded a bunch of pictures there. Could someone tell me if this works for them?

That's awful. I don't get why anyone would want to destroy things like that.

Wonderful pictures! The pirates were 'walking the Plank' most of the day.   I suggested they bring baggies next time...there were wood chips everywhere.
The Haggis Chips were interesting- Definitely an odd variation on BBQ..

Well I went out this afternoon just to check on things myself and to talk to someone who really knew what went on. Seems as though someone broke in to four of the food establishments and stole equipment out of them and left in the field in back. They think they have recovered most if not all of it. I guess it could have been worse.

The Forking Queen had some if her things opened, and scattered and some of her smaller props are missing.  She only had a few items left to remove, and some of the food from the vendors was mixed in with her props.  She is local, so she wasn't in a hurry to finish packing up after faire, and the stuff she had left behind wasn't valuable or irreplaceable.  It's the first time this has happened to her in the entire time she has been with DMRF so she won't leave her stuff behind anymore.
I'm glad to hear that the Fairy Tree was left alone.
Sleepy Hollow is very close to the Iowa Fairgrounds and within easy reach of some of the older neighborhoods.

Hey, look what I just found! Remember last year's final closing gate, which had not only a number of excellent musical acts but also the dramatic return of the pirated king? Video has been uploaded to Youtube! Lord Clisto, you better watch out. :P
