The snitz forum software is no longer a viable option.
I have the forum database containing all the posts. There is a remote possibility that the posts could be converted to another forum. It will be some time before I can make that determination.
My gratitude and love goes to the admin and moderators who make R/F a wonderful place to meet and you the members who make it all worthwhile. Thank you.
I want to especially thank Lady Serena and Tom for providing this forum.

John,
do your best to save what you can. over the years there was/is a lot of good information and dialog relating to the festivals, lifestyle & the people involved. if need be, we can adjust to a new format.
we trust your judgment - do what you gotta'
Sometimes change can be good. Though a slight difficult adjustment for some (like me). But a place like the one you have provided for us John, is well worth making the adjustment for. I'm just imagining DB going back to even posts with the average poster. Knowing DB though, it won't last.
John,
We are here to help and serve in anyway possible. I'm sorry to see that someone had to make it come down to this, but at the same time really glad because we still all can get together and talk. Please keep on fighting for R/F it's a good place. And again a big THANK YOU ;D to you John, with out you this would not even be possible.
Glad all those post are not lost! I hope we can see them again. It feels strange to be starting over- but we are not really. All are friends here! Glad we can still meet.
Not a big fan of change though.
Can I kick DB's can?

I'm not sure how possible/practical it is, but on another board (quite large and somewhat well-known), the owner put the old board up in read-only mode, with registration closed and no valid registered accounts. This allowed people to access and link to the old information without the admins having to figure out how to do a database migration between two different (and probably hidden and undocumented) database structures. Then again, we were simply changing forum software, not trying to avoid hackers.
I have been dealing with these types of individuals for years and I have never been able to figure out their desire to randomly destroy something that is of no harm or bother to anybody. The best defense I've seen is to deny them the attention they seem to crave and wait for their attention span to wane, when they will move on to another target (oops, never mind (http://forums.renfaires.com/index.php?topic=8.msg48#msg48)).
Thank you John for everything you have done! I did give DB my DH's email address if you want additional brain power on the ordeal.
Many thanks to Lady Serena and Tom for giving us this great lifeboat...Can't believe how many of us fit so comfortably in here! And John, thank you for all of the headaches you've endured and surely must be enduring now. We can adjust if we need to, we're Rennies and we're flexible!
Many Thanks to John and everyone else working to help keep this "life raft" afloat!
Long live R/F!!! HUZZAH!!!! ;D
Wow is right..... *sigh* I guess sometimes when a city is bombed badly enough you may just have to rebuild completly. Thanks for keeping us together until you can build us a new home. I'm sure we'll fill up those empty pages quickly with all our knowlege.
Now where's Mare? I need some advice on a skirt I'm starting work on.
Hackers suck. >:( But it's great that we still have a place to get together. Cheers to John, DB, Lady Serena and Tom!
*looks around* I think I've been here before? ;)
A life-raft full of fairemily is a good as place as any!!!!
Thanks to John and DB, For your continuing hard work!!!
And also thanks to Lady Serena and Tom for a place to hang out!!!
HUZZAH!!!
Thank you John for all you have done and or you are doing for us. Wow, a life-raft (I never would have thought of that).
Woah. I feel like I'm in some alternate reality here. Weird.
It is a bit weird, I'm so used to seeing the old format. I can adjust though, because I can still talk to everyone....my biggest fear is losing the forum altogether and losing touch with so many wonderful people. Thanks to Lady Serena & her husband for providing this site, and to John for not throwing in the towel!
OMG, I'm not in Kansas anymore! :o
I was freaking out when I couldn't find the site. Then I didn't realize I had to sign up again (computer illiterate just about, I am), and it wouldn't let me in with my old name and password, and I was sure something awful had happened.
Now that I'm finally here, thank you so much for your hard work to create a place where we can continue to meet. It looks different than the old site, but as long as the same wonderful people are here, it will be just as fantastic.
rrrrrrr I"m here but not without my clitch stupid fingers can't spell anyone know how to edit profile name?
???
never Mind i fixed it.
Might I suggest Gojabber.com?
I love THEIR interface!!!
I think SMF is pretty good. I tend to go with phpBB because that's what I'm most familiar with. Whatever you end up with will be faboo, John, and if the database (mysql?) entries are there, I bet you can recover some of the old forums... Of course, I'm always the optimist.
Now for the important stuff: someone PM me and tell me why I can't add a profile pic? I don't rate or something? ;D
Scoot over and make some room in this life raft...gotta have the Island Ette aboard! :-*
Why am I not surprized if a lift raft is afloat Festmum wouldn't be aboard.
Ever thought about using vbulletin as forum software? It's pretty darned nice, if I do say so myself.
vBulletin is proprietary. if you want to go the php/mysql route, phpbb is free and quite robust.
John is actually looking into vBulletin as an option for us. May be awhile before we know what direction we're going though.

As long as we're thinking of going somewhere... Let's visit Scotland! I've always wanted to go... no reason for the raft to drift aimlessly... there should be enough pirates abord to stear by the stars and such... :D
Gosh, what a hassle! My best wishes John and all the mods who are helping us get back on our feet -- here's to a speedy recovery! Three cheers for you all and all the fantastic work you do!
Not sure what happened, or how it happened, but I think I made it to the right place. Was looking for my link, couldn't get to it, so did a search and found this site. I Think I am in the right place. Is this a permanant (relatively speaking) move?
Good Morrow CORF folk. See you in our section.

Yes, I'm guessing you found the right place. No idea if this is "permanent" or not. For now, it is what it is. Just keep an eye open for updates.
As much as I hate change (trust me I REALLY hate change) if the old forums can't be salvaged just think of all the fun we'll have starting them all over again!
:-* on the cheek of everyone involved in trying to maintain a place for us to call home.
Yay! So glad I found you all again! Well done the Lift Raft Launch Team!
Fingers are crossed that you can rescue all possible (hm... Sewing with crossed fingers ain't easy! ;) )
Well, it looks like this is where all the popular people hang out. Thought I would join in on the fun!

...we were waiting for you; just where have you been?
Sorry lass ... nice to be missed! I guess I was just waiting to see if the ole house could be saved. I am onboard now!
And it is certainly about time. Hey, Darlin'. We missed you.
Well this is completly different. Thank you John and everyone for all your hard work.
Thanks, Serena and Tom, for providing the lifeboat. Without it we surely would all drown in our withdrawal! John, thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this place. We all love it, and we're glad we can still be here even if it looks a little different!
You have done a wonderful thing here for alot of people by not giving up. We as members support you and will help you rebuild this awesome family that we all have come to understand. Save what you can and know that what you have done here will be forever remembered by us all.
Thank you all for your encouragement and offers to assist.
As DB mentioned I've been trying to migrate the old posts to a new forum.
The conversion from snitz to vBulletin isn't going well.
Our vandal keeps making things tough. During his last visit the conversion terminated and the new forum quit working.
Attempted to start with a new install of the forum. That failed.
Reinstalled PHP.
The MySql reinstall failed.
Fortunately we have the lifeboat and the mods.
If the posts of old are to be committed to the ether, then let the legends begin...scaldic tales, as worthy of songs and fellowship.
Let us not look back, but begin anew...fresh starts are good.

Hi, John!!! 8)
Great attitude, Amras! We should find the positive in everything....the spirit of Ren!
Agreed, my old comrade. The smallest candle overcomes the largest darkness.
So, lets kick the tires, and light the fires...OMG, I'm quoting "Captain Ron"...all is well with the world.
The Squirrel Lord is in da house!!
...and agreed. We still *had* all those wonderful times and memories. Nobody can ever take that away from us.
Just a note, it works for a little while, at least for me, ..... is that enough disclaimers?
If you can remember any part of what you're looking for, do a Google search. You may have to tell it to do the search again without omitting the duplicates. When the results come up, look through the titles for the RF post you are trying to find, then click the link for the "Cached" page. Sometimes it works and you'll be able to see/copy what you were searching for.
If there's more on another page in the thread, you'll be out of luck unless that page showed up in the search results too.
Hope it will help someone. Good luck!
Example: I was looking for something about our handfasting in Tennessee last year. I did a google search for Esc Leinad handfasting and it turned up the pages.
Thanks Esc. I have tried that, but for me at least poking about in the rubble has yeilded no results. I wonder if I'm being too specific. Mayhaps just my name would bring more?

Hi, John!!! 8)
HERE HEAR AND HUZZAH!!
For those trying the search, as I said, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think there may have been some forums/threads that didn't get indexed by Google. I know there have been some things I've searched for that I can't find and others that tell me there's a cached page but returns an error when you click on it (my profile page being one of those).
**Slinks in with a Guiness and clove** 'ello all! :-*
edited to add: Wonders if John's Inn is under construction. I've been behaving far too long!
I take off for a week to move and look what happens. But on the plus side we're still here.
I knew there was a raft around here somewhere . . .
*looks at her posts count* I feel like such a n00b! this is not right :P... We love R/F and we love you John, I do not think we could ever fully leave this group! We are too addicted!
RIOT!!!!!
HUG!!!!!
Ok, I'm better now...
Good job on the rebuilding, if there is anything I can do to help out please let me know. I've got a bit of experience under my belt and a bit of SMF knowledge as well.
Huzzah! ;D
Woo Hoo!
Crested another big wave.
Great set of people keeping this ship afloat.
