Title: Tell me your magical place....at MDRF
Post by: Lady Guinness on June 26, 2008, 06:25:35 PM
All of MDRF is special to me but some areas I hold close to my heart.  I think the most calming place is the area by the wine garden. And the White Hart always puts a smile on my face...maybe because that is where my friends are and certainly because the best bartender resides there. (miss you Jim!) Tell me which is your most magical place in our beautiful shire.

Hmm... great topic....

The super secret spot that we first met Morgan and Dwyn... the tree by Tracey's bar where he serenades us.. the boardwalk in the "down" part where the trees are cool... but of course, the best place is where our friends are, which quite often is the White Hart!

The blowing/drinking horn booth, late in the day when there aren't any horns hanging on the end of the 'porch' near the tree. I can perch there and watch people go by. And I have friends who work there and don't mind my perching. :)

Sitting on the bench attached to the big Bullseye booth. Again, watching people go by.

The cottage by the White Hart.

The deck of The Dragon where I asked Cynthia to be my wife.

I'd have to make this a tie between the Dragon and the White Hart... because I had such a wondrous time at both places last year.  I can't wait to return

The front gate .... because it leads me right to the White Hart!  ;D

... how come I always remember entering faire but never remember leaving? Wierd!

Oh my that is a hard one because its not just one place.  I love the White Hart because of all my friends there and I love the Dragon because of all my friends there.  Another spot that was great was just above the Globe because another group of friends would sit up there at the tables but they moved the tables from there last year so we have to find another spot to hang out.  Hmmmmm now that I think about it, where ever my friends are is where my favorite spot is.  They just seem to all in or by a tavern.   ::)

Gods...that is hard...I mean...yes the place where we first met up with Mehan and Ewan was magic...and Tracy's...and I can't think of MDRF without thinking of O'Shucks and hanging there. The whole place takes on it's own life when dusk approaches...and The White Hart feels like "home" but then again, that's because it's filled with laughter, love and friends...

I love the Dragon b/c I always have a great time there... And then there is O'Shucks where we have 12 o'clock shooters...  But my favorite place is the wall at the White Hart.

Can't wait for faire this year!!!!!

Capt Morgan you are so right. MDRF does take on a completely different life at dusk...even more beautiful and amazingly magical. I think in the evening my favorite area is walking from the White Hart down to the board walk. As well when the cannon goes off that slow meandering walk to gate with the soft glow of lights in all the shops.

The deck at O'shucks, early in the morning before the crowd hits...the view down the hill is the best on the site...anywhere I can sneek up on Lady Guiness for a hug...oh, thats just about everywhere... 8)

Also, looking west, up the alley from the Royal Healers in the late afternoon twilight...its as close as you can get to viewing renaissance England without a time machine. Very nice!

Don't know that I have a magical place as much as magical moments and magical memories. The whole place is magical to me as every corner has become my playground at one point or another. ;)

Just about everywhere where it is easy to observe without being observed.  I love watching the people who come to faire.  And it always helps if the spot is near music, and away from food vendors.

Lady Glorianna, I do know exactly what you mean. I can look around our shire and have so many different memories from grove to grove. Memories of my family and my friends. New friends I took to faire for the first time and new friends that I met at faire for the first time. I have fond memories of my Father many years ago making fun of a street character that kept picking on Scotsman (well before he was called that), memories of my children practically growing up at faire and then working there. It is truly a very special place and will always hold a part of my heart.

I love it at O'Shucks. I like to people watch and what a great spot, everyone seems to pass by or has to stop for a beer.

O'shucks is definately a must-stop for us.  Man, I'm seriously looking forward to some shrimp shooters!

Our favorite spot is the White Hart.  My least favorite spot is the playground, but the kids love it so we spend a wee bit of time there as well.

The shrimp shooters are not on the menu.  You have to ask for them.

Wow, it's really hard to choose just one place!  So many spots that have their own magic and character.

I love looking up the leafy tunnel of Marys Dale Way by the slide, and looking at the long line of shops.  I like the big main food court by the White Hart.

Another spot I'm attracted to is the little fountain a few shops down from Wolfstone Kilt.  It's tucked in between 2 shops (can't remember what they are) across from the roasted nut booth.  It's a pretty little fountain with lots of greenery.

I don't have magical places so much as magical times, and they are at both ends of the faire day. I LOVE running down the Queen's Path and Valley Meade right after the gates open, when it's still cool and wet, everything's in shade, and there's not much noise. And I also LOVE walking slowly towards the gate, especially if there's been a Pub Sing, and moreso when it's late in the season so everything's dark except some of the lights in the shops.

ooh...just thought of this
there's a portrait shop near the Dragon Inn
I bought a wondrous portrait of an old friend there this past season
and the chapel there... that has a remembrance of him
both very special places to me

I forgot one:

Sitting all cocooned in one of the hammocks at the hammock shop. But hammocks in general are pretty neat. (I just got one [not one from the folks at MDRF, alas] and I'm still getting a kick out it)
