Title: Looking for scrub pants (for men)
Post by: gem on August 16, 2010, 10:45:51 PM
In an effort to save a little time/work, I'm thinking of buying blue scrub pants for Milord and his father for their Much Ado garb this year (next year I'll make them real pants). I wanted to get these, from Penney's (http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=19a8fd3&Ntt=scrub+pants&SelDim=6~&hdnOnGo=true&Ne=4+877+878+5+961+6+29+3+598+11+15+12+506+10+23+585+596+1031+8+18+904+903+840+969+949+833&submit%20search.y=5&SearchString=scrub+pants&submit%20search.x=31&N=4294959029+511&Nao=0&SO=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=searchresults), but every possible combination of color and size I would want is out of stock!!  >:(

I have never seen scrubs locally in any store (and I don't have the motivation to seek out a local hospital supplier!), and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a source where the shipping isn't too high.

Thanks!!

Try Walmart that is where I found mine that I use for pirate pants, I think I paid $18 for mine in black. They had blue, brown, black, white, light blue, pink and a few other colors.

Googling "scrubs" got ton of hits for me. This one (http://www.scrubsgallery.com/scrub-pants.html) looks promising. Never purchased from them before of course, but lots of options.

While I don't know were to get some, though I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding some online, I would have never thought to get black scrubs for garb pants. My boyfriend wants his first garb set this season and I was worried we'd not find something reasonably priced before faire starts but that's a perfect idea! I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this sooner :P Good luck!

In most areas, you can find uniform stores with lots of different scrub pant options. If you try google maps, it might come up with one close to you, so you can check the pants out in person.

I *know* I've seen scrubs at Sam's Club--you might look there. It was a couple of years ago, but I'm sure they still would.

I get all my scrub bottoms from Walmart. $15-$18. The store near us has the scrubs located near the ladies undergarments and jammies.
Oh yeah, and the Goodwill always has scrubs as well, though there are likely fewer options for size and color there.

is a great source for scrub wear.  These are the scrubs you see in the hospitals' OR departments, emergency rooms, and on the staff, because they hold up well, even to daily washing.  Shipping charges vary with the amount spent, and can be free.  They have a huge amount of different styles and colors, and the website is easy to navigate.

The customer service is EXCELLENT, and if you order in the morning, it will ship the same day.

Due to my son's ever-growing status, we've been using black scrub pants for years. I always find them at Wal-Mart, and I think I usually pay about $9 for the ones with a drawstring.

Hack them off below the knee, turn them up once, and add a drawstring around the legs and you're done. Oh, and remove the back pocket, if there is one.

I have seen scrubs at Wal-Mart, Garden Ridge, Costco, and Old Time Pottery.

Thanks, Lady Renee!! I'll check that link out!

Lady Rosalind, I actually need *full length* pants for this project, which is why I'm going with scrubs instead of trying to modify one of the patterns I have. We're borrowing a trick we have from one of Milord's screen-used movie costumes, and putting snaps on the ankles to tighten them up for fitting inside boots without bunching up.

Never seen scrubs at my local Walmart (as I think I mentioned in my OP! LOL). It's just easier for me to order online, anyway, than hunt all over town (and there isn't really another reason for me to go to Walmart).

Ok, new question: What in the heck are reversible scrubs? Does it just mean that they're finished inside and out, so you could wear them inside out or rightside out and it won't matter? Or does it mean that they're fully lined and reversible?

Ugh. This is getting ridiculous. All I want is some shade of dark blue, no cargo pockets, that won't take three weeks to ship!

When they say reversable they are usually finished on the inside so when you are in a hurry to get dressed it doesnt matter which way you put the pants on. At least that was the way when I was going to nursing school.

Thanks, I was usually running late for class so I bought scrubs instead of regular nursing pants, makes getting dresses alot easier.

www.scrubs123.com

has men's navy scrub pants on closeout for $5 (or $5.50 for the larger sizes)

Copied from the website:  Medline Scrubs - ENCORE UNISEX REVERSIBLE SCRUB PANTS          SKU 700PNV

I clicked on discount scrub pants.   The color is navy.  On my screen, the color doesn't show as dark navy as it really is, but I think it's my monitor, because I've seen these scrubs and they are navy.

You can call at 1-877-278-2712 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. central time, to speak with somebody and ask questions.  Up to $25, the shipping is $5.95, still cheaper than what you can usually find in stores.

I have 3 sets of this company's scrub pants, my husband has 2, and I bought a set each for my kids.  Plus 3 pairs of black pants for our older son to wear to faire.  Highly recommended!

When I did a play where we were required to have an actor in a bright blue dentisits smock, I found this place and their items are good quality.  The only thing is, unless you buy 2-3 items, their shipping can really bite.  However you can get free shipping with $50 or more order by entering in the code.  "613"

Hope that helps.

I have a question about the scrubs.  I want to put together a cheap basic peasant outfit for my son. (he's 13 and quite tall, taller than his dad) I don't know exactly what the scrubs look like, would I need to elasticize the bottom cuffs, or just leave them be. What do you all do?  He'd be wearing them as long pants with a peasant shirt, and some sort of garby looking moccasins.

Gem, what did you finally come up with for scrub pants?  Will you post pictures of the final garb?  Thanks!

Slightly on topic...we went through the same thing cause my husband blew his whole ren budget on a vest (wha?). It's super spiffy, but honestly...lol. I said "Ok, so you are going to go pantsless?"

Save the day! Woman...of course, the one who budgets (ah, don't yell at me manly men who do budget, alas, mine doesn't). LOL. I couldn't stand the look on his face. 'Twas sad and distraught.

We went to Walmart and found a pair of pj pants in black. People asked us at least a dozen times where he got his pants! $6.00 at walmart. They are a tad 'snug' in the butt (so for those pirates who want to show their booty...ha.) or if you go a size up they don't show the goods (butt) so much if that isn't your thing.

Anyways, just wanted to add in that they tend to have quite a few options or the men-folk for pants!!!

Please let us know how the scrubs work!

Hey, Lady R, thanks for asking!!

I did end up ordering a couple of pairs of scrub pants, but as it turned out, we're actually going with Dickie's work pants! Here's a picture of Milord mocked up to test them out:

And here's Kenneth (http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/23310958/388817668.jpg).  ;D

Originally I was thinking of these as a stop-gap until I could make pants next year, but right now I seriously think these are going to be better than anything I could put together. Especially for $18/pair! I'm a little worried that they might be a little too warm, but we'll see what happens.

Next step: VESTS!!

Yeah he is looking great but even at first glance I thought he is wearing scrub pants. But then I realized these are not. I am too looking for comfortable and trendy surgical scrubs (https://www.wearfigs.com/collections/all/products/mens-naga-one-pocket-scrub-top-surgical-green) for my sister as she asked me to purchase one for her.

Scrubs123.com has great scrubs.  They are not the cheapest, but they are comfortable and hold up for ages.  I've had 3 pairs for almost 9 years.  The new Avenue line is really nice, and the material is fantastic.
