Title: What does "leet" mean for post count??
Post by: Merlin the Elder on May 12, 2011, 12:18:45 PM
Just curious... mine came up with that today, and I've seen it on others' post counts before as well. Did I win the leetery?

My guess is that you had 1337 posts, which translates to leet in gamer speak, which is short for elite.  Elite is a superior being.  So for a few sweet moments you were more superior than all other forum members.  But now you are the same as the rest of us.

Pure speculation, of course.

I'm thinking someone is a nerd and turned 1337 posts to read leet. XD

Well, I'll take that as being a cool thing.  I'm not a gamer, so I did not know the term. But I was passing through the 1337 post category.  What makes that number significant in the gaming world?  Was there something at 420 that I missed?

Urban Dictionary for leet (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=leet) - see #3 for why it's 1337. #1 supposedly explains the history.

It's popular in online gaming, too.

It's a little easter egg in the system.  Once you go past 1337 posts, it goes back to normal numbers.  ;)
