Title: St Molden's Weekend 2012
Post by: Welsh Wench on June 01, 2011, 07:49:08 AM
Is it too early to plan the date?

St Patrick's Day is Saturday, March 17th.
Is this the weekend we want?

I'm trying to snag the week off from work and putting my request in early.

Input, anyone?

I ain't waitin fer plans - this year it may just be separate from any group invasion plans (heard some say they may want t' go a different weekend cuz St. Pat's at BARF will likely be crowded...)

Int' th' Abyss sez I!  8) I ain't leavin' me fate t' wait fer someone else t' say.

Tradition stands w' me an' thar be no place I'd rather be -- thus,

I been appearin in this part o' th' world on th' weekend closest t' St. Patty's as possible...an' with it fallin' on Saturday -

I WILL BE THERE ON MARCH 17th!!!

an' o' course Friday an' Sunday too!  :D

T' all - I'd love t' see y' there - but do as ye will...I sail me own way, I encourage ye t' do th' same.  ;D

Here's a fun event for anyone who happens to be coming in early...

Our school's drama department (not like FAIRE drama, just dramatic acting :-P) was selected as one of the best in the state and will be performing The Pirates of Penzance at the historical Tampa Theatre on the Thursday prior to St. Molden's weekend. The drama teacher is a dear friend of mine and would LOVE to have REAL PIRATES in attendance!

Please let me know if you're interested in attending (in garb).  It would be fabulous to see you all there for this incredible performance!

Post by: iain robb on January 06, 2012, 06:06:17 AM
My wife and I are seriously considering it. It would likely mean spending the night in the area, so we wouldn't end up driving back and forth between Orlando and Tampa three or more times over the weekend, but we're trying to see if we can work it out. It sounds like fun. I am the very model of the modern major general, you know.

By the by... Likely as not, I'll be in Tampa on Thursday night (near Faire and Busch Gardens)... I'm lookin' for an easy vibe, maybe a friend or two or more, to just "kick it", bs, knock back some cocktails and good, simple area grub.

Suggestions? Ideas?

Tia's is always good....you ate there last year, if I recall....Trang Viet, is a little hole-in-the-wall vietnamese place heading back towards the highway on the right hand side. Kinda sparse, but the food is phenominal if'n you like vietnamese cooking. There are more restaurants and chill points more towards faire.

Post by: Molden on March 06, 2012, 10:46:33 AM
Thanks. I've been to both and the Vietnamese place was great. Just checking to see if in the Tampa area, if there are other spots to chill and kick it with friends - to expand my options. I do dig hole-in-the-walls/dives - as long as the vibe and food are noteworthy.

I asked the same question on facebook - so far Skipper's Smokehouse, The Refinery and The Independent have been suggested.

Right now, Skipper's Smokehouse is looking like a front runner for next Thursday...but everything is open. If ya'll have something better let us know.

Also - looking into a spot for Friday night. Feel free to suggest here or on facebook. I'll check both.

Not looking for anything fancy, just a good easy going place to knock back some cocktails and visit leisurely with friends. Good food and good vibes are sought.  8)

Clarification Y'all - I am talking about NEXT Thursday 3/15. I don't want to hose any activities that the M'Cracks have set for this week in your area.  :P

Friday would be good for either the Refinery or the Independant. Money is tight, but I could convince the wife to come with too.

Also, i would be remiss if I didn't mention my new favorite bar on Nebraska off of Sligh: It's called the Mermaid Tavern. Great place, nice and simple outdoor area, dog friendly, and has Milk Stout. Yum! And it's like a block away from my house.  ;D

On other stuff - I believe we're sticking with Skipper's Smokehouse on Thursday evening/night. I have no idea at all what's up on Friday night...think I'll leave that to the "fates" and just go where I'm told that evening. You know me and that "planning" stuff...better left to others sez I.  ;)

Golly, I am SOOOOOO looking forward to "decompressing" with y'all this weekend.

Work has kept me running for the last three weeks. Then yesterday one of my co-workers took an emergency leave and I ended up with half his work. And last night, I got an e-mail that basically said, "Hey, that project we said was URGENT last week? The one we made you jump on while other work piled up? It's cancelled."

I'm so glad I have my fairemily -- and friends from out of town like Molden and Angry Jack -- to help me get back to normal. Well, as close to normal as I get, anyway.

Molden, there is no such thing as a dull time with you around! I love a good laugh, me, and you kept me in stitches once again.  ;D

Kate & Seamus, Lady D, NoBill, Esc & Leinad, Iain, and everyone else, you always make me feel so welcome and at home. I love this faire, and I had a fantastic time playing The Doctor. I can't wait for next year!

And Wenchie was the perfect hostess and travelling companion, as always. Next year can't get here soon enough!

How I do miss the beaches and sunsets...  ;)

Iain I was Beyond Thrilled that you were able to produce that wondermous fresh OJ of yours! From previous entries it looked like it was in doubt.

I had a BLAST this year as always. It was a much smaller event as th' M'Cracks invaded th' week afore. SO GOOD to see all my Florida Friends and always Thrilled to see those who travelled to attend. Mad Jack - 'tis always a treasure t' see y' mate!  ;D

Well, sir, I am humbled by your gratitude, and hasten to add that my wonderful wife did all the work. Well, actually, the trees did a lot of it, but she took it from there.

It was good to see you and the many wonderful people who came out. OK, and all you not-so-wonderful people too.  :D

I was just going through my photos from the Georgia Renaissance Festival this past weekend, and realized I had a few photos from the tailgate on St. Molden's Day ...
