Title: Midwest Renaissance Festival, Omaha, Ne
Post by: Emerald Shaunassey on February 27, 2009, 10:22:16 AM
I know, I know it's a bit early to be putting this out but, well, I have the time and the energy to do so now.  So why not?  For those of you who weren't able to come out last year, you missed one fine festival.  Talk about fun times with family and friends - that is exactly what was to be had at the Midwest Renaissance Festival.

This year should be even better, building upon the friendships and camaraderie and going ever upwards.  I for one cannot wait to get back to Omaha, Ne!

Mark your calendars now for May 16, 17, 23-25 and come out to Scary Acres and enjoy this festival!  I'll even save you a seat at a Kiss show!

Tell your friends, tell your neighbors ... tell everyone and then, bring them out to faire!

Looking forward to May,
Emerald

Why Doc, that wandering soul should see as many faires as possible - going from faire to faire to faire.  Being free as ... as.. a gypsy.  Tee hee!

In sooth, I do hope that your wanderings find you at MRF; it truly is a fine place to be.

As I am living in Omaha, I will be there for sure.  As I am carpatho-rus, the wanderlust is part of my soul!

Title: I am a little confused ... are there two events in May?
Post by: Doc Tyma on April 23, 2009, 10:28:37 AM
So, I have come across two events being advertised for may.  One is at www.nebfaire.com (may 2 and 3), the other is the MW Ren Fest.  As I am new to the area, I just wanted to be sure that I had the right information.  Thank you!

Doc

Yup, two different events. Makes it nice. Though some prefer one over the other. The only thing that I will say is that the one at Bellevue Berry Farm has nice wooded areas compared to the Faire at Scary Acres.

However if it rains...... :o  The Berry Farm becomes one big mud pit.

Longs for the good old days at Iowa Western.

The Midwest Ren Faire hasn't taken place yet in 2009. It's May 16-17 and again Memorial Day weekend..May 23-25.  ;)

Perhaps there will be photos then. ;D

Hello all!

Is there a gathering place for R/F types on the grounds?

I'm really hoping that Sir Morgan and I will be there on Memorial Day. His job may prevent it though  :(. We'll see what happens when that weekend comes.

Has anyone any photos from the weekend?  Please share them!

Ian Richard Sharpe, Royal Tax Collector

Sir Ian et al.,
If you will navigate to AtTheFaire dot Com and seek out the Nebraska section then to Midwest Ren Fest, you will see some photos from this past weekend.  One more weekend to go ... Memorial Day replete with our Military Monday tributes for all service personnel.

Here's hoping some of you can make it out this weekend.  If you do, stop by any Ladies of the Salty Kiss show and introduce yourself!

I was just looking at the website.  I looks like the 2010 dates will only be 1 weekend (29-31 memorial day) Is this so?

Rowen,
This is correct.  In order to help end the confusion of the Festivals Inc faire at Bellevue and those of us at Midwest (DCL Events) and to help conserve finances, Mr. LeSole, the owner has decided to run the 3 day Memorial Day weekend.  Until the economy picks up and folks have more liquid assets to spend, I think it a wonderful thing to reduce to one weekend and build up from there.  I'm so very glad, as one of the stage shows at Midwest, that Mr. LeSole opted to keep the Memorial Day weekend; it is always such a special weekend for my group.

Here's to seeing ya out at the festival next year (and maybe one or two in between then!)

Fair Winds,
Emerald

Thank You for the update. Of course I will be there next year!  I would have attended more than a single day this season if I hadn't been in Scotland at the time :D
I think it can only be a good thing for Midwest to scale back to the Memorial Day weekend until the economy picks up.  I would like to see big, multi-weekend  fairs in the Omaha area, but it takes time to build a following and create a family tradition of attending a 'home faire'.  Not too long ago there were NO fairs in Nebraska except the NRF, and that was so tiny as to barely qualify.
Give the Omaha Rennies a chance to boost this, spread the word, and give the fair time to acquire a following of loyal fans. Keep the same dates when ever possible, and stay in the same place so people can find you! (very important since word of mouth is still the best way to get new folks in the gates)
Nebraska and Midwest Fairs can both do well here.  Many people who go to one will also go to the next,  as I always have.

Looking forward to seeing everybody next year!  My Laird and I will be attending the Des Moines Faire this fall, during whichever weekends we don't have a Celtic Game to set up a Clan Davidson tent at.
If you are in the Omaha Area, check out the live Pipers at the Midwest Celtic Festival 2nd weekend in July

I really enjoyed the Midwest RF!  Great entertainment (Orckes and Trolls were OUTSTANDING!).  Missing an axe throw, though.  We'll be back next year; it was worth the trip from Kansas City!

Excuse me, Emerald Shaunassey, but did I catch your show at the Midwest RenFest in Omaha?  Did you have some sort of story time, talking about some sort of badger with opposable thumbs, who stored different things in a box?  Very nice!  I was the sailor with the blue thrum cap!  Are you ladies coming back next year?

Greetings Butch!
Indeed, you did catch our new show "The Hedgehog" replete with opposable thumbs and priceless rocks tucked into a box ... and the famous female privateer Captain who finds the booty!   ;)   Thank you most kindly for your praise; I will share it with the crew who are not on these forums.  And I remember you most well sir!  As of this posting, we are indeed returning to Midwest next May for the entire Memorial Day weekend.  Mr. LeSole has thus far been well pleased with our work.

Until next our paths cross, I bid you

Excellent question!  I keep checking the site and they haven't added any acts since Joust Evolution.
*checked again*  Just says they will be udating the site 2 weeks ago (04/08)
Likely they will have many of the same acts as Nebraska Ren Fest...Have the Ladies of the Salty Kiss signed on yet?

Unfortunately, I will miss the Midwest RenFest this year.  My family and I are going to St Louis that weekend.

I will, however, catch Capt Emerald Shaunassy at the MO RenFest in Joplin.

Hopefully we can make the Omaha, er Midwest RenFest in 2011.

To All,

The Ladies of the Salty Kiss are in a holding pattern as the Entertainment Director (who is also a fellow performer and stage show owner) states he hasn't gotten the budget go-ahead from the festival owner.  Repeated e-mails, phone calls, and voicemails have been sent to the ED.  I am sincerely hoping that after all the years of TLotSK being at the predecessor faire (the old Council Bluffs, Iowa Faire) and the years we've now put in at Midwest are not all for naught.  I'll be honest in that I've a bad feeling that we've been axed for some ungodly reason.  It surely isn't because we asked for a raise!  We've actually LOWERED our price despite the cost of gas and the 8-9 hour drive (one way).  Say a prayer that we will be brought back .... send the ED an e-mail .... heck, send the owner an e-mail asking that we not be dropped!  "SAVE THE KISSES!!!!"  ....

Umm....

Er.....

Yeah.  Back to your regularly schedule madness.

I see they have finally updated the site!  Listings for vendors and entertainment are now up.
I should email the powers that be and see if they need volunteers.  I will be in between classes and only working 1/2 day Saturday at my mundane job so I can help set up or what not.  I've never gotten a free ticket for helping so I don't expect one.
I will be agitating to  'SAVE THE KISSES'!
  Hugs ladies!

Ahh...Emerald, by no means does it mean you've been axed...we all love the Kiss up here. Trust me I am doing all I can to fix budget issues and I don't want to say "no" or make false promisses thats why I am still working on it. Having done E.D. yourself I'm sure you relise some of the challanges involved. Remember I'm the guy who talked them into having TLOTSK the first year of Midwest. It's not an issue of not having the budget (totally) it's an issue of making the budget work for the amount and type of acts needed. For example so many music acts, dancers, comedy and fighting, I can't hire anymore fighting and comedy until I know how much dancers will cost and so on...that's the holding pattern we are stuck in and its a hard pattern when there is a limited budget involved. I do understand you have been patiently waiting...trust me I've been in that boat with my show...and I appreciate that since I am the guy who has been waiting on others to get me info. Hope to see you soon, Memorial day wouldn't be that without the Kiss leading the charge.

  Hi Little Beard!
Let me know if you need any volunteers from the local area to help out.
My laird and I will be attending the Faire anyway (as always) and we are always happy to help with whatever we can do to make sure we keep Renaissance fairs in our area.
Thanks for the hard work keeping this going!

~Rowen MacD    The LoTSK Rule!

P.S. Do you have flyers out? I have been spreading word, and I already have you listed on In the O (KETV7 site) and Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau websites.

Rowan - my dear you are too, too, gracious to me and mine, I am blessed to know you through these boards and look forward to the day when I meet you face-to-face.

Lil' Beard - well do I know the situation you are in.  Just remember that we/me/Kisses are always flexible when it comes to the budget - how well do I understand that the economy is against Festival in general and entertainment budgets for darned sure.  Shoot me a flyer for the festival in email so I can take copies with me this weekend to a performance.  Always glad to spread the word 'bout the festival no matter what comes.

Butch - just an FYI - that would be Scallywags  <wink!>  I see how you are... going to St. Louis instead of up to Omaha .... Making the Kisses wait until what .... July before we see you and yours??  But seriously, enjoy your trip to St. Louis.  This is your first time there, no?  If so, do NOT miss Elvendrums and Corsets and Codpieces (who will be at my festival in July).  Both groups are absolutely wonderful!

Off and running back to the sewing machine!

Yes, St Louis that weekend.  I am sorry that I will be missing the wonderful stories of the exploits from the Kisses!  Thank GOODNESS I got your CD, so I could refresh my memory!

I really wanted to go back to the MW RenFest, but since it is only one weekend this year, we have opted to travel to St Louis RenFest (for the first time) this year.  I will most certainly be at the MO RenFest in Joplin during the month of July!  I hope that you have a couple of minutes to wave "hello"!  I know you will be busy!

Brother Gregory,  I don't recall getting the opportunity to meet you in person on Saturday of festival.  Did you get to come out?  Did I speak with you and have a heat attack on my brain and forget meeting you??? (That sounds like a really bad lead in to a really bad spanish soap opera, "Los Links!")

Rowen - pleasure to see you!  The patrons were out in full force every day and soooo willing to play!  I think this was our best year yet!  I'm looking forward to next year already!  Thank you for your kinds words for my crews antics over the weekend, you are so very kind my dear.
