Thought I would start a thread for us Knights to show off our threads. This is SleepyArcher and DB in new garb at Twig.

Quite impressive! I've considered getting a 12th-13th century kettle helm for my garb (as shown below). Thoughts?
Kettles are good if foot soldiering is your thing although I would personally go with a nasal helm. You can function in one like a kettle, like drinking (important) and eating (not so important). I've been told they look way cooler than a kettle. The maidens love them along with the mundanes, and you can purchase one for about $55-60 which is really good especially on a knights salary (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i231/LittleCasino/Smileys/grinning-smiley-004.gif) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i231/LittleCasino/twocents.gif)

Yes, my first thought of course was a nasal helm, but then I realized that I never see kettle helms being worn. I more or less want one just because no one else wears them.
well i think the kettle helm would be nice it would be different if you wanted to go different than everyone else.

Don't like to be like the rest of the herd. I Understand that completely DB. However, be careful as you know in time you could and may eventually end up having the entire "Crusader Grand Helmet Slam" which consist of a "kettle, a nasal, tranny and a grand! It happens to the best of us......Deus Vult!

Yes, that's where I'm headed! I've been eyeing the kettle helms, as well! I certainly don't see too many down here! Although, DB, I think with the Jerusalem Tabard that you have, a nasal helm would look best, IMHO. I was only going to do a kettle helm, myself, once I got a Templar sergeant's tabard. But that's just me. ;D
Huzzah, Brother Joseph!!! Welcome to the ranks!!! Good job, Frere William, in your recruitment endeavors!
thats the helm I want, just cant find one for the right price yet. I love the brass cross on it.
I agree, a great looking helm indeed Sir Steven. One might want to remember to check ebay periodically
as I have seen many a 'great helms' with good craftsmanship offered at low coinage there.

I loved the pictures of the knight at the laundry and hairdresser~I needed the laugh. And the helmet with the cross is awesome.

Well I just got mine this week...Woohoo!!!
Now here is my question and I know I asked warior monk on this. What is the best padding to put in these and where do i get it?
If you're not worried about historical accuracy, most of the heavy fighters in my SCA group get the foam camp mattress pads and cut them up to fit. These are blue versions of the sleeping mat that the Army issues.
You could put wool felt in the top to add some padding to the top. I made two "donuts" out of leather and wool filling. One is glued into the top of the helmet with several layers of wool felt above it. The other is worn on my head like a bandana on the outside of the coif. When I put the helm on it butts right against the glued one and keeps the helm tight to the head so it doesn't rock much, especially when I am wearing the crest, wreath, and mantling. I know there are also some more elaborate suspension systems in helms, but we know the donuts where accurate too. I guess it depends how H/A and how complicated you want it. Hope that helps some. Good luck. Beautiful helm.
Congrats on the new helm Sleepy!

Congrats Sleepy! Look forward to seeing new shots! Be wary though for by its' sheer brilliance and awesomeness, DB may want to also wear it!! ;)
And as Frere William has warned you, be careful.....I've been down the road he speaks of, and wear the t-shirt! :P

Yup the first one is on my list now, just as soon as I pay off a few things and get my season passes for fest for me and the wife. I am not a kettle guy I dont look good in the nasal so I would only get a kettle for show on a shelf. If DB wants he could always wear the nasal. Hes got a bigger head than me and may fill it better, I have a narrow head and no hair.
I have some great knight photos on my site web.mac.com/featherphoto.

Very lovely signature, Sir Clisto, the image also, is greatly fantastic. ^_^
~ Codi
Thank you Codi. If it wasn't for that darn CAR in the background, the picture would have been even better. LOL.. It was taken at Stronghold Olde English Faire, in illinois.
And, also thank you for the compliment on my saying. The board here only takes so many characters so it isn't the entire saying. I wrote that back in the 80's. This is the entire quote -
Oh, the sweet reward of knighthood,
Lie not in the true nobelist of deeds,
But is buried deep within the eyes and heart,
Of his one, true admiring lady.
Sir Clisto
I didn't even notice the car until you mentioned it. But I edited it out:

Well done, dear lady. Looks much better. I never had the time to do it. Just have a tiny piece of the building there. HUZZAH!!!! You are as talanted as you are lovely.
