The article at http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1883770,00.html has what appears to be an uncropped version of the picture.
I wish I could find a nice big scan.
The doublet details are driving me crazy.

I saved the picture from the Time article and printed a full page picture from it. Not too much pixeling.
But will this change the image most people have of the famous bard?
Probably not. The article indicates that most available pictures are probably based on copies of this original.
I finally found a larger image. He was quite striking. Handsome and well dressed, or as a blog I read so eloquently put it, he was a babe. :)

Portrait of the bard painted at age 46

The collar on the other portrait makes me wonder if it actually is contemporary with this portrait. (http://www.topnews.in/only-lifetime-shakespeare-portrait-unveiled-london-2137498)
The first portait makes me think of George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.

The same style of collar is in more than one portrait of the Earl of Southampton, the bards' sole patron.

There is interesting speculation that Shakespeare was enamored of the young earl, who was a very pretty young man.

If you look at the second picture on that page, he looks very much like Eric Idle from Monty Python... ;D

This makes you wonder if the Earl commisioned the portrait of Shakespeare which was most recently identified. There is a striking resemblance between the two men in that portrait that you don't see in Shakespeare otherwise.
