We are but a short time away from the gathering at Fairhaven for RenDezvous 2012. When we get together, we shall need to raise a glass to Hibernian to celebrate him, and also to Owain Phyfe, who we lost last month.
With that in mind, we are 27 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes, 23 seconds away from opening cannon of Rendezvous 2012.
We absolutely will hold a celebration of our Dear Hibernian's life, as well as any others recently parted from our company, at Rendezvous. I will notify one and all once something is more definite as to when.
We have many of our Fairemily coming into Charlotte to attend the viewing on Monday and his funeral on Tuesday. Rest assured, many will be celebrating his life and Friendship during this time. Our hearts will also go tenderly to his Dear Wife, Mary Lou as well as their Children and Family who are dealing with this terrible loss. For those wishing to participate in Spirit at this time - your Heartfelt Wishes, Blessings, and Gratitude are most welcome.

By this time in
3 weeks,
we shall be gathering in the parking area of Fairhaven, awaiting the opening cannon.
From the roll call, it seems this will be a smaller group than in years past.
Guess we'll just have to have that much more fun each.
There are at least three things affecting it, Iain.
- TRF AHE weekend is that weekend, so most of the Texas contingent will be otherwise occupied;
- Those with kids are limited because of school;
- I think there's some bad feelings about how the selection is done as opposed to years prior to 2011 (B.M. - Before Merlin)
Turnout was moderate last year, too, compared to what I saw in the pictures for 2010, for example. But there is such a HUGE R/F group in Texas.
We are going to have a good time, regardless. I'm looking forward to meeting those of you I haven't already met, and seeing those of you I
have already met for more merriment!

ALSO - Lady Mikayla has posted on the Official Rendezvous thread regarding pin orders. The 10th (tomorrow) is the LAST DAY that she will be taking orders for the pins. Which means Rendezvous is getting MUCH, MUCH Closer!!! :D

I've been more than pleasantly surprised by some of the friendships I have developed here. Several have grown beyond just a casual friendship. RenDezvous last year only added to that number, and I am confident that we will be making more good friends.

Actually - I was talking about the need (and requirement) of planning here in my life and work life!
Looking for a weekend of being dragged along for a change ;D
Well, my wife and I will be meticulously planning our time, looking at the RenDezvous schedule, the entertainment schedule and the map (so we know how far apart each event and stage is).
In addition, we'll look at all the menus in advance and decide what we want to eat and where it is available and when we will eat it.
On top of that, we'll identify which shops we definitely want to hit, and, based on where they are and where the food, shows and RenDezvous events are, we'll figure out when to hit those shops.
We'll write that all out in a schedule and take it with us to consult over and over all day long.
Then we'll promptly get lost in conversation or distracted by shiny things in a shop or decide the next act that we weren't going to stay for actually looks interesting, and never look at a watch, and the whole thing will fall apart and we'll have a grand time anyway. ;D

By the way, I'll be heading up tailgates on Sat/Sun am...y'all wouldn't want BBQ would you?

Because of the distance, the best I can offer at tailgate is a chest full of beverages. We always travel with Coke, Fresca, and Jack Daniel's, and for faire I add a selection of ales, stouts, IPAs...

As for fresh Florida OJ, we're still hunting around for someplace we can get early season oranges, and keeping a close eye on ours. Turns out the demand for them makes them hard to get, but some of ours are looking like they may possibly be ready for us to pick and bring up. I may have to go out and plead with them.
We're planning to make chocolate-chip muffins and freeze them, then bring those up just in case we get squeezed on the oranges. I realize it's the pits, and certainly not as a-peeling, but you gotta take the segments life give you.

Eight days. It's on our office calendar. (I'm tacking a five-day backpacking trip on after RenDezvous. Hoping there's some fall color but not too much in the way of fall temperatures in the lower mountains.)

Nimue has gotten the same response from her co-workers. She is already on vacation, and won't be returning to the hospital until Oct 31. The doctors and nurses HATE it when she leaves, because she treats them well.
At this time, one week from right now, I plan to be done loading up the car and starting my drive to North Carolina. We'll get there Thursday evening, giving us plenty of time to get over car lag before RenDezvous starts rolling Friday night.
Alas, I must add ... we will not be loading up Florida oranges so we can share fresh Florida orange juice at the tailgate. Our oranges will not be ready. Checking around produce stands and greengrocers, no one can get us oranges before Nov. 1. :'(
I am super excited to meet all of you; gotta get to know Nim and the secrets to living with an old codger ( ::) and Iain, I am actually glad you aren't bringing oranges - it was never my intention to beg OJ from you (though it wouldn't have been refused), I just wanted to learn about oranges from you, as at the ripe old age of 52 I discovered A) that I love them and B) that I don't have a clue how to pick a good one.

Well, I can breathe easier now. Last night I finished my wife's reversible forepart and her second set of sleeves. She now has one new dress and two sets of sleeves with matching foreparts for RenDezvous.
Now, for backpacking the following week, I get to sew up the underquilt for my hammock so I do not literally freeze my butt off. Just eight seams to sew, and then I'm packing ...
I have to get all my packing done tonight as there's Pubbing to do tomorrow after a day at work! And my flight is early on Wednesday!
Trish - at least I have Wednesday and Thursday night to pack... but I have all my favors to finish.
Our suitcase is at 40 lbs... have to carry almost all our belt stuff in the carry on alone with my jewels and coins. Wanna bet they stop us and make us open our case to ensure we are not cat burglers?

Yippee -- last day of work, and it's 11:55 a.m., and I just finished the pile of work that was dumped on me yesterday afternoon. (I don't think anyone expected that -- including me.)
All I need to do now is get through a meeting this afternoon, and I'm out of here and prepping for the trip and RenDezvous and backpacking -- oh my!

My travel coach, Homer, the Odyssey, has no such limit, and one is not required to be strip-searched, unless one would like it.
When I arrive home from work today—about 1:30 p.m.—I shall begin the process of transferring baggage into the bowels of Homer. I shall also begin the process of setting up the bar in the back, so as to be ready for tailgate. Nothing fancy, but drop by for softdrinks, ale, and, of course, Jack Daniel's...I don't leave home without it.

Mostly I would say your Appetites! In general - if you would like mimosas - cheap champagne and orange juice are welcome, or drinks/mixers of choice.
I will have hot coffee (fully leaded and decaf), water, and Yuengling (beer) - ice, coffee administration supplies (creamer, sugar, local honey)
So really - just anything is most welcome, but most of all - Bring Yourselves! :D

Just a few hours left to opening cannon! A meet-and-greet that was most enjoyable, and the food at the Galway Hooker was A-ONE!! Multiple hugs from multiple Ren-Babes made my evening complete. Ms Trish's chaperone was looking the other way, so she got a couple extra...
I'm having a helluva good time, and I haven't even seen the faire yet! The weather for the weekend is supposed to be absolutely perfect. I can't wait for breakfast at tailgate...
And everyone, Merlin might be there tomorrow morning with bells on too! ;-)

I was wonder why it was getting so warm.... I was SOOo busy getting and giving on my own behalf, that I lost all concern for your wanton desires, Norfolk. Wizards are notoriously stingy when it comes to hugs.
It has been a lovely weekend. Enormous debt of gratitude to Molden and Lady Mikayla for hosting the event.
Indeed, enormous gratitude for Molden and Lady Mikayla. And it was great to meet folks from the board, and see others again.
We had wonderful weather as well, not too not nor too cold. More than I can say for my plans to go backpacking this next week -- Hurricane Sandy is bringing high winds, snow and lows in the 20s into the mountains where I was going, and discretion is the better part of valor, so I'm heading home instead, hoping to do some backpacking in warmer climes.
Congrats to Lady Mikayla and to her lovely assistant Molden for hosting a wonderful Rendevous.
It was nice to see old friends and to meet the people behind the posts..

Truly - I was just thinking back on the weekend. So many fun and interesting conversations with all of you. Lady Mikayla and I were agreeing last night - that it was SO FUN to have a smaller, more intimate gathering. We got to know, share and enjoy so much with all of you. Thank You ALL for coming, whether from near or from far. This weekend will always be remembered fondly!
Lady M and Molden, Just wanted to agree with everyone and say I had a most wonderful time. Both of you made all of us feel 'right at home' You guys have a wonderful faire.

Lord Spicer and I are chiming in to say that we felt so welcomed by all within the group, enjoyed the humor of all and the food. I have arrived home feeling that I had been eating all weekend!
Also wanted to express how lucky you all are to have such a festival owner and the great things that should be happpening to your faire in the future. Sure felt strange to see him on the plane to Charlotte, be greeted by him at the festival, then see him again on the plane back to MN! Probably more than I noticed our owner in the last 2 years!
We hope to see all of you at the next event!!!
