I am having a new doublet and trousers made in the cavalier style what would be a appropriat period accurate fabric to use?
Hi, and welcome to the forums!
For the English Civil War, in which the Cavaliers fought, you will want wool. ("Wool" is actually pretty much *always* a good answer for "What's an accurate fabric for....?" ;))
This is a good site for costuming for the English Civil War: http://the1642tailor.com/2013/01/23/what-to-wear-in-the-english-civil-war/ (http://the1642tailor.com/2013/01/23/what-to-wear-in-the-english-civil-war/)
As Gem said, wool. If you are doing noble, silk is also appropriate but make sure it's a silk taffeta or another silk that doesn't have slubs in it.
Wool comes in a lot of different weights - most people tend to think of wool in terms of coats and blankets which are heavyweight wool. I have a summer Regency dress out of a lightweight wool that I wear a lot to early 19th Century events. I also have a lightweight wool 1560's Italian dress that I love and wear to summer events as well.
I'll third that! I love wool! You cannot beat the look and drape. I wear a wool doublet, and it is quite comfortable.
So I also have Damask Fabrics for Cavalier Fashion
