Seems like we'll be missing people!  :-\ (Jealous of your trip to Peru, Lady Christina! Stick me in your suitcase? I can fit!)

Doubt I'm working this year, but hopefully my boy and I will be visiting as patrons (it would be his first time at our lovely faire as a patron, so I'm definitely looking forward to showing him around!).

Anyone started a countdown to opening weekend yet?  :)

I will not be there for opening weekend, however I will be traveling down from Michigan for the faire on May 5th to see the GARF for the first time, and also to see The Zucchini Brothers one last time!

Can't wait to see you all there! Hope some of you can make the travel up to Holly in MI later this year!

Hey Fairieimp!      Black is a pain but easy to fix.   If I have cotton clothes or anything black that fades like your skirt might have I just freshen it up with a box of black RIT dye from the grocery/craft/fabric store.   It is not really permanent and will fade again over time, but it is cheap, quick and easy and can be done in your washing machine which makes for NO clean up!   Just run a hot soapy load after the dye job and you will be fine.  Run your cold rinse cycle twice is the only thing I add to the directions on the box.  And don't overstuff  the machine if you decide to do a couple pieces at once.   I am an early 80s baby so we used to over dye jeans this way all the time

So, since I don't think my wife and I know anyone at GARF, is there a meet-and-greet or anything else on opening day that would facilitate us meeting some folks?

Well the M'Cracks will be there for the opening weekend and they do tailgate in the parking lot prior to cannon.  Look for Hibernian's Irish Flag flying.  Then we will be at Brewers Pub at 3:00 for the Cheiftains Toast so you will catch lots of familiar folks there.    You might be hard to spot for folks like me who will be looking for a lifesized..... umm.....  "muppet"?

Sorry, my avatar is my plush toy. My marketing people took a bit of liberty with that one, but it's pretty accurate. My action figure is much more accurate.

If we'd be welcome at the McCrack tailgate -- and I can't imagine those fine and welcoming folks saying no -- I'll be there in a black doublet, white shirt and either a clergy (blue, white and black) kilt or a Munro black-and-red (Red, black and a tiny bit of white) kilt, with black boots. Not sure what my wife will be wearing. Something lovely, I'm sure. (Still working on her blue Tudor gown -- hope to complete it by Rendezvous.)

THANK YOU!
It's just the skirt that needs to be done. It's one of those giant 25 yarders from the Royal Clothier at the front gate (my favorite skirt TBH; I wear it all the time!).

Minor aggravation with work. It seems that schools do not understand the importance of GARF opening day and did not schedule their proms accordingly, and since most of my coworkers are high school seniors, I will not get to stay for the entirety of the festival that day.  >:( Not pleased.

(I'll be coming from Michigan)

Hmmm.. How to describe the M'Cracks.  They are a social group that was originally formed in TX with the purpose of enjoying friends and fellowhship in the RennFaire environment.   It's main purpurse is to make the experience more fun and so that no matter where you visit or travel, you have friends and family waiting for you.      We all have a M'Crack name and a local "cheif".......and...  sometimes....  there could be Guinness involved!

There is a M'Crack forum page in Squires Tavern I believe.    Sir Bruce...I can't imagine where in Georgia you wouldn't fit in?   A Scotsman AND a Templar.  You have hit the two best types of men!  ( assuming your "Bruce" in it's historical context)   I go alone to some these events too but am never truly alone.    OH and there is a very large contingent of M'Cracks in MI!!

Yes Brother, there will be a few Warrior Monks in attendance throughout the season. Opening day carries promises of belonging to the Brethren of the Hospital. (I'll don the black to give increased numbers to them, as they always seem to be more prevelant) (I was and am still tempted to wear the habit from Fishers last year........damn it........what to wear, what to wear????)

Do you have photos of your persona? If so, please visit us in the Following Orders thread!  ;D

And the Lady Amy is never alone......I've seen Kings and Queens flock to her presence at GARF on more than one occasion! (Yup...got photos!)

And yes, the eye patch is coming. Even with it on, I'll still see twice as much as a "dane" who stolls aimlessly about the grounds....

Yes WM, I have pictures up from the previous years Renaissance Festival when my costume was in it's beginnings, but now I have invested somewhere around nine hundred dollars into it and it will be much nicer, while however much warmer, I'm now realizing why I see all of the armoured men standing in the shade most of the time while I am at the festival.

As for my character, I do not have his humble beginnings mapped out yet, but hopefully in due time I shall.

And yes Amy, I am a Scottsman AND and Irishman by birth, as my last name is McFadden.

I have got to tell you the real story about my avatar, I guess.

I'm an editor, and we had two young women right out of college interning with us as writers for a summer. Over the course of that summer they went to the France section of Epcot at Disneyworld, which at the time had a lot of artwork relating to Vincent Van Gogh. And they found a Van Gogh plush toy. One ear is even attached with Velcro, so you can take it off if you want.

They bought it and brought to me, smiling and telling me they thought it looked just like me.

I looked at it and said, "He's frowning and looks angry."

"Yes!" they replied with glee.

I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to take that ...

Saturday I'll be in the Munro black-and-red kilt, and my wife will be in a Scottish dress with a red top and a gray-and-red tartan skirt.

See you soon!

I am extremely late getting to the forum this year for GaRF.  My wife and I will be working at Crimson Chain Leatherworks for the month of May. And then we'll be making a move out to Dallas, TX.   If you're at the faire be sure to stop by and say hello.

Maybe I'll get my tax refund and be able to come to faire again (Bama, I'll be visiting Crimson Chain; I NEED A LEATHER CORSET!). Hopefully I'll be able to take the boy and his dad (and maybe his mom) to faire on May 12. They'll be down for my college graduation on May 11! :D I'm SO excited about it... I have WAY too much to do until then though. Paper revision and three finals all due before May 3. :O
/gets back to work.

The Bayou Scoundrels and I spent the last weekend here at faire and I might say......what a beautiful Faire you all have up here. Met alot of wonderful people, caught some shows and had some great food. I can't speak for the rest of the crew but I can't wait till next year to come back!!

Thank You GARF for a wonderful weekend.
