Which do you prefer?
I gotta go with the Stones.
No one moves like Mick. ;)
The Stones for outright gritty, sexy music. The Beatles for texture and imagery, especially later in their run.
Beatles FTW ;D
Stones. They define rock star status; hell, they practically created it.....I don't recall Paul McCartney being mentioned as a possible guest on POTC.
Beatles. Nobody else for me.
When we lived in England, I made Steve take me to Abbey Road, St. John's Wood, the Apple Studio, anywhere in London that had a tie-in to the Beatles.
And my British husband is a chef, as many of you know, and he also cooked for the Beatles. They loved his food.
Both!
I love the Stones but its the Beatles for me. ::)
The Beatles! Without question.
The Beatles for me, especially once Brian Jones died. I never got to see The Beatles, though, and I've seen the Rolling Stones four times, from the early 70's into the early 90's. We're friends with the guy who arranged all of the horns for them (and Joe Cocker), and also knew The Beatles, Jim Price. He had great stories to tell about all of the British lads. Come to think of it, Joe Cocker opened for the Stones one of the times I saw them, and Rufus (with Chaka Khan) one time and Stevie Wonder twice. Good concert-going days, those were. And I can't say I know any Beatles songs on the harp, but I did learn how to play "Lady Jane."
Stones all the way. Saw them at the MGM Grand in Vegas three years ago. Mick had flown to England the previous day to be with his ailing father, flew back the day of the concert, only to have his father pass away the same day. Mick came out, gave the performance of a lifetime, and never said a word. Professional, all the way. And of course I still think Keith is still a sexy beast.
There were very few dry eyes amongst the feminine set when he sang this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suvkxjhfXuc
EDITED: Also got to see Paul McCartney on the Ellen Show - what a charmer! I still have the CD & book of his they gave as goodbye gifts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRsPscOGY6Q

Who else can wear a pink satin suit and make it look sexy?
Indeed.
Stones
Beatles, most definitely. I personally never understood why the Stones got so big. Their music never really seemed to inspire much resonse from me.
who are the stones?
beatles. i love them yeah yeah yeah!!!!
I know I've logged more hour listening to the Stones. Stones it is!
Pink Floyd...sorry, that wasn't a choice?
Ok, Jethro Tull.
What?
I love them..YEA YEA YEA!!!! Beatles!! :-*
But then........there are The Monkees........hahaha!
Dave Clark Five, but if I have to pick here - Stones :)
For the benefit of Mr. Kite, I'll resound the insects flight!, When I'm Sixty Four! ON TRAMPOLINE!
Stones, Exile on Main St probable greatest album ever.
I would be hard pressed to find a Beatles album I don't love, from the first to the last track.
Strangely there are only a few Stones songs I can listen to...I really enjoy "the few" but there is not a Stones album I can listen to from start to finish.
BEATLES!
I dig a pygmy...
I saw the Beatles live on Ed Sullivan, Feb. 9th 1964.
The Beatles came first and were close friends with the Stones- they checked with each other to make sure they did not release albums at the same time.
I have everything the Beatles ever produced and one single by the Stones (Start me up) and one itunes (The Last Time), but I haven't seen the youtube video, so I might still change my mind. Nah.
For the benefit of Capt Spleen,
who's jumping on a trampoline...
(Oh, and one of my Beatles books is extra awesome- I think you know which one Welsh Wench.) ;)
Beatles... 8)

Well, if you're talking guitars it doesn't hurt to have a pick. :P
For Taffy--I was looking at some Stones video and really looking at Charlie Watts. I think people don't notice him that much because he isn't flash.
But Lord, what a drummer!
I found this story-- one incident during the mid-1980s, an intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts's hotel room in the middle of the night asking where "my drummer" was. Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my ***** singer!"
Although my all-time favorite drummer is the late Jeff Porcaro.
I tend to watch drummers because my husband is a drummer. Yeah, unfortunately a set of drums is in the corner of the living room. >:(

So what's your opinion of Neil Peart?

Here ya go, Rapier!
Exceptional drummer.
I love Porcaro's style. He played with Boz Scaggs and Steely Dan. Co-founder of Toto.

Welshie, I love that story about Charlie Watts. The man is pure class. There's another story about him buying some classic car just to sit in and feel the wood dashboard - he doesn't drive(!). It's always a pleasure to watch Mick or Keith or Ronnie go over to the drum booth and give him his props.
Thanks for sharing the story.
If you like a good backstory, here's one that illustrates just how competive the two bands were for "our" favor from the get go. There's a great article that goes along. Can't vouch for how authentic this is, but it's a good tale.

"On July 26, 1968, Mick Jagger flew from Los Angeles to London for a birthday party thrown in his honor at a hip new Moroccan-style bar called the Vesuvio Club—"one of the best clubs London has ever seen," remembered proprietor Tony Sanchez. Under black lights and beautiful tapestries, some of London's trendiest models, artists, and pop singers lounged on huge cushions and took pulls from Turkish hookahs, while a decorative, helium-filled dirigible floated aimlessly about the room. As a special treat, Mick brought along an advance pressing of the Stones' forthcoming album, Beggars Banquet, to play over the club's speakers. Just as the crowd was "leaping around" and celebrating the record—which would soon win accolades as the best Stones album to date—Paul McCartney strolled in, and passed Sanchez a copy of the forthcoming Beatles single "Hey Jude/Revolution," which had never before been heard by anyone outside of Abbey Road Studios. Sanchez recalled how the "slow, thundering buildup of 'Hey Jude' shook the club"; the crowd demanded that the seven-minute song be played again and again. Finally, the club's disc jockey played the flip side, and everyone heard "John Lennon's nasal voice pumping out 'Revolution.'" "When it was over," Sanchez said, "Mick looked peeved. The Beatles had upstaged him." "
For me...they are just too different for me to say I prefer one over the other. I tend to prefer hard driven music more often than not, but The Beatles have some knockout lyrics, that just blow me away when I slow down and actually *listen*.

Welshie, guess what my DS gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago? I had the great pleasure of seeing Mr. Man on stage at DisneyLand at the premiere of POTC: AWE in all his glory.
The BBC broadcast the film version of "Magical Mystery Tour" in black and white on Boxing Day (Dec 26), 1967...Interesting Christmas season factoid...I remember seeing the "Hello Goodbye" promo on Ed Sullivan at home when they broadcast that here a few days later.
