Title: 2010 Sewing & Garbing Projects
Post by: gem on January 01, 2010, 10:57:01 AM
Happy New Year, all!

I thought it might be fun to keep a running to-do list, so we can keep each other motivated (sort of like we did back in NaCoSewMo (http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=8850.0))!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to sew more, and I always think having a project list will help (of course, I reserve the right to completely change my mind about what I'd like to make throughout the year, but at least I can track that fickleness! LOL).

So... what projects do you really want to get made this year?  I'm setting myself a hugely ambitious goal (for me) of trying to make something every one-two months, so here goes (minus the couple of mundane projects I'd also like to try):

1. Gimli tunic for Milord
2. Corded corset
3. new middle-class skirt
4. doublet bodice
5. Margo Anderson Tudor kirtle
6. Promenade kirtle
7. a hand-made linen shirt (for me or Milord, I am undecided)
8. Some piece of Milord's Tudor Claus ensemble

(The first 4 items on that list should not take more than a month apiece, and if I get those done, I'll be ecstatic.  I know that the more I sew, the more I sew... so I'm hoping to get off to a great start this year!)

Who's with me?

I bought material for 3 skirts, so I want to learn how to sew (more than the 1 pair of bloomers I made last year - with lots of help).

A 26 yd bolt of sapphire silk heavy taffeta added to the collection, and a new Viking Designer 1 sewing/embroidery machine for Christmas... it's going to be a good year..

Let's see here other than client projects...I plan to make...

1) The RED QUEEN from 'Alice In Wonderland'

2) Regency period clothing  for the Earl and myself for a July trip to upstate New York to celebrate his hometown's BiCentenial. There will be a Costume Ball for one of the events.

3)Make new garb for my daughter, boyfriend, and granddaughter.

Not much else going on.

Lady Kathleen & I are on the same page.

For fun:  Alice in Wonderland themed cancan skirt, corselette & tail coat.  Black bloomers.
Finish Mamma Gkika ensemble, and make fingerless gloves.  Attempt blue wiglet?  Maybe.

For serious:  Gold Spanish ropa.

Maybe, just maybe, an Italian Renaissance rose and sage gown.  I need to start looking for fabric for this.

Of course I have to finish my work stuff first before I get to play with the fun stuff!

But when I am done

1. Over dress out of my pretty blue striped cotten ( yay second hand store find!)
2. Make a Alice kind of dress out of the queen flat sheet i dyed a fantastic deep blue
3. A few shirts for the monster when its closer to June (hes growin like a weed)
4. A chemise for one of my Garland girls
5. and contimplate a fun skirt like the Red Queen that Lady K is going to make!
6. Maybe 1 or 2 of my tierd "princess skirts"

and hope that I dont find any distractions between here and May! *fingers crossed*

Hmm, project list for the year?
For me: Shirt, doublet, pants, hat. But first, decide on style and fabric.
For the wife: Bodice (she likes her old one, but I can do better now), fix/finish last year's skirts, linen chemise, hat
For the kids: Most likely 2 or 3 complete new sets of garb each, depending on how they grow. Thinking kilt for Tristan, just so I don't have to make too many things.
Misc/multi purpose: Decide what to do with purple velvet, organize & inventory stash, get new notions/tools box (and organize), build new kitchen cabinets (I stow my sewing table/cart under a cabinet in the kitchen, and tend to use it as pantry overflow as much as for sewing)

1. Steampunk corset and skirt, deadline March 20

2. Renaissance skirt, bodice or two, and hood, deadline April 17

3. Cloak, deadline August

4. Regency gown, deadline summer

Those are ones I want/need to make for sure. Then there are all the other possibilities for all that fabric I have lying around that I bought and never did anything with ^^

A couple more skirts and shifts. I've got broadcloth and muslin that's been stowed away for quite some time waiting to be made into something!

A sideless surcote and cotehardie.

Athena, I'd love to see pictures of the surcote and cotehardie when you're done and also find out what pattern you're using.  For someone who doesn't know how to sew (me), I'm sure setting my sites high.  I've always wanted that, and that's why I'm looking forward to seeing it.   ;D

One of my resolutions this year is to sew more often (and I got a sewing machine for Christmas, so that will make things easier). I haven't yet sat down and thought about exactly what it is I want to sew, but I shall do that and post it. Great idea, to keep people motivated. I know I'll need the help!

1. Seaweed dress

2: Perfected sealskin

3. Perfected steampunk outfit (mainly just alterations) for the selkie persona.

For me, it seems to be one long continuation from last year and the year before that. I have some blouses to be fixed, some skirts cut out, but not sewn, some wings not finished, cuffs not grommeted. Note, these are all things for myself. I finish everyone else's garb first.

I have to make a farthingale for my oldest grandaughter, this year. (she will be 9) The youngest said she doesn't want one, so that's ok. I know the oldest will need new Middle Eastern, as she has been wearing the same one the last 3 years and has outgrown it. Same with her pirate garb. The 3 new ones I made in 09 will still fit her this year.

And for Sir R, I have a surcoat, tunic and chainmail in the works for him. I plan on learning how to make chainmail this year and I really like the dragon scales on theringlord.com! I need to find a knight's helmet for him, one with a visor that lifts up, so he can see. Which reminds me, does anyone know how to make the crest and mantling and how to attach it? I bought a griffin after halloween, but I don't know how to attach it. What else do I need ( a coronet?)

This is why I have no renaissance garb actually planned this year:

Customer projects booked:

Two Regency gowns: cut out and awaiting Tuits to sew up...
Another Regency Bonnet
Brown velvet throw with thermal lining
Completion of Victorian bonnet
Completion of Victorian gown with two bodices
Completion of Victorian Gents uniform jacket
Make red waistcoat to go with above
Wedding: One brides gown
             Three Bridesmaids gowns
One Mother of the Bride outfit
Wedding: One Big Fat Gown (as in corset top and huge skirt with layers and crystals and everything!)

I've also had an inquiry about a child's dance outfit.

Personal Projects:
Finish off Elizabethan Court Gown for Ightam Mote!
1 set of brown velour smart casuals in knit velour for working (cut before Christmas)
1 coat for Big Sis to complete (polar fleece job: very cozy)
1 set of Giant Floor Cushions for Little Sis
1 king sized patchwork quilt (large pieces of textured cloth rather than small intricate cotton patchwork)
1 wedding outfit for me (for the bigger wedding set above: daughter of a dear friend)
Something for GMNT to wear to the wedding if he goes
Rework Himself's suit for the wedding.

I also want to make myself a long 1950's style winter coat!  I have my eye on some delicious purple Doeskin from Hainsworth for that.

Needless to say, some new project might be found and jammed in there somehow...

Kate, one of my mundane projects is a velour sweatshirt (from this KwikSew pattern (http://www.kwiksew.com/catalog/cat_detail.cfm?pid=3393))!  I have some absolutely gorgeous pewter-grey velour, and I want to put some of my jacquard trim around the hem and neckline.  I've never worked with velour before (and don't have a serger); any tips?

**
Well, it's, what, the 4th already?  And I've done absolutely nothing, sewing-wise.  I guess I had a good excuse--my parents were here for the weekend *and* I was proofing the galleys for my book.  Maybe today I'll get the Gimli tunic pattern traced so I can do the alterations Kate suggested.

I've also signed up to participate in my needlework boards' Guilt-Free January stitchalong (fun stuff only, no obligation pieces, stuff you really "shouldn't" make because there's all these other projects waiting already, etc), with my corded corset being my project for that.

the most important of my projects is my Snow White recreation for Rendevous. I'm gonna finally be getting started this week...I'm gonna have to push myself to make sure i get it all done in time. I've never made any form of noble garb and I've got to make a farthingale and bumroll for it too...i hope it turns out as good as i'm thinking

First check to see if your velour has Lycra/Spandex/elastane in it.  If you don't have a label from the shop, then just stretch a bit of it: if you can see tiny gleaming threads, then it has the Lycra/Spandex/elastane in it.  Use a STRETCH or SUPER STRETCH needle.  If it hasn't, you can probably get away with a knit or jersey needle.

For get the 'overlock' or 'stretch fabric' stitches on the Husqvarna for this stuff: they are seriously thread-hungry and give a rather stiff and uncomfortable finish.  Just use a short narrow zigzag to sew plain seams and a wider one using the over-edge foot on the trimmed seam allowances, or zigzag them together and trim them down later.

Use a walking foot if you have one, and always sew in the direction of the pile whenever possible.  On true woven velvet the pile usually goes UP the body to give a deeper and richer colour.  On knitted velour the pile goes DOWN as it is longer and will be less prone to wear this way.

As you sew the seams, stretch them slightly.  Be VERY CAREFUL to keep the tension the same in front and behind the needle, and let the machine feed the fabric.  This builds a little extra stretch into the seams.  Use a good quality polyester thread to sew it.

Steam the seams gently (no pressure on the iron) from the inside when sewn.  You want to shrink back any unrecovered stretch in the fabric without pressing lines into the pile from the seam allowance.

Hope this helps.

We are working on a character re work.

For Pirate gone Ranger:

1. Semi fitted tunic with a mandarin collar:  We worked on this yesterday and the mock up is complete. No pattern used and this was the first time I just draped pinned and sewed.  Didn't come out too shabby. Linen swatches on order
2. Pants:  he is doing these on his own using an old pair of jeans as a pattern
3. Leather gorget, hat, half chaps and probably something else that I have forgotten.

Myself:

1. Fitted English gown: Bodice, lining, facing and contrast all cut out. Bodice flatlined and ready to be sewn together.
2. Fantasy forest huntswoman garb to match the new Ranger:  Pattern pick out and cut.  Lining purchased.  Waiting on Linen swatches
3.New hats and pouches
4.Candlewicked Pillow case just for fun when frustrated with the garb.
5. 2 skirt reworks
6. Finish Chemise from last year

New Kirtle and Chemise for my Youngest Daughter.

I need to make some petal skirts for my mom and me.
A new 1/2 bodice with no boning because it bothers me when it digs in to my ribs.
I want to make a outfit like the ones worn in Hocus Pocus ( torn between which one to do because I don't think I could do all 3 )
I want to learn to make some bloomers in a plus size for me.
Going to try to make a pixi outfit with pants instead of a skirt.

The only bad thing is I have no idea when I can even start on any of this since I hand make all they jewelry I sell in my booths at ORF and KyHRF.

Oh fun!  I don't usually have a project list, I generally get a bee in my bonnet about some piece of garb and then try to make it.   But in general:
I hope to make an outfit for my DH.  I'd like to try some simple beading on a doublet for him.
Some more hats! I had such fun making them last year.  Big.  Bold.  Crazy!  lol
Since I'm down 30 pounds (Since Feb of 09) I am pondering a fairy outfit for the hottest weekends (not that we had any in MN last year).
There has been some talk about a Day of Wrong so who knows what will happen with that.

I've seen MG's bonnets and she hides more than bees in them.   ;)

2009 2010 Garb List
Brown & Blue Elizabethan
Underpinnings to go with it
Black Pirate Coat for Rune
I found some really nice linen at SR Harris that is just hoping to be made into a chimese.
And someday I'll try my hand at a hat or two.

Please keep me progressing.  I have a tendency to plan and start stuff, but not finish it :P

Here's what I have planned:

* Medieval gown for RenCon (April 9th)
* gypsy skirt and top for PARF
* finish hoop skirt and make Tudor style corset
* finish 2 skirts (green and yellow)
* DOW Tudor gown

There are other things in the planning stage but I'm not sure if I'll get to them this year.  Whew! For someone who hasn't really sewn before, I can be a bit ambitious! ;)

I divide my costumes into three categories. Character garb, Follies and Halloween.

Character garb is a costume made for a specific character at a specific faire or event where I am actually working. These are made on schedule, on budget, and with input from any directors there may be. They are work. I don't know what I'm doing for these this year because the only event I've got a solid offer for already has a costume that goes with it.

Follies are things that I sew for no good reason. I don't NEED a blue velveteen tudor gown with all the trimmings. My boyfriend doesn't NEED a pirate coat, vest or breeches (oh how he wants them. But he doesn't need them). But they are on the list. I am working on them. But only when I feel like it. They may or may not get done in 2010. We'll see.

Halloween is a mad slapdash of whatever I can think of. There is a year of planning, but no work done until October 25th. That is when I will realize I do not have time for whatever it was I was planning, and then I go as something else entirely. The current huge ridiculous plan? Beheaded Anne Boleyn. Rock.

Sigh...

1. Lose weight! I have a small (okay, giant) chocolate addiction.
2. New red court gown, to replace the old one which is getting worn out after 4 seasons of hard wear. I matched the red (yay! after years of looking for anything at all in that color!), so it's time to relegate the old gown to rain day wear...
3. Black silk court gown, with peacock blue silk accents, gold/red iridescent trims. Low-cut bodice, and doublet bodice.
4. More and more dolls!
5. Learn to embroider! (I'm making progress!)

1) Tunic and undertunic, but first I have to replace some linen.  This needs to be done quickly as it's for Sherwood (last weekend Feb.)
2) Then I don't have anything "planned" but I want to take a look at my closet and decide if I want anything else for Pennsic.  I may make some bloomers and thigh (or knee) length chemises.  If the tunics come out nice, I may work on a second set in a different color scheme...nice to be moderately period  :)

you know I was real pumped about getting going on several projects...that is untill I completed a duct tape dummy for myself finally.....*sniffles*  I got a good look at it and have decided to put some of the more fitted pieces on hold for a few weeks and get back on the diet/ workout wagon ~ARG!!
..so for the moment I am only gonna be doing:

making a second embroiderdd coif (I just have to have two of them for the weekends at the home faire!)
making a second embroidered chemise- same reason- have to finish the embroidery before I can generate
          the units!
new linen kirtle- I'm going all natural/lighter materials for garb this season..
new tropical wool outer gown- so soon as I figure out the trims- how rich do I get to be??
Victorian gown, jacket and maybe blouse...gotta settle on the picture to copy first!

This is easy. I am a total procrastinator. I can take my 2009 list and just change the date. List done. See you in 2011, with the same list. Eek, I hope not.

I did complete (to a wearable state) my kirtle, sleeves and corded petticoat. The kirtle is a tad large. The petticoat needs the waistband finished.
2010 (previously known as 2009) To Do List

To Do Garb

-Oatmeal Kirtle A kirtle of oatmeal linen embroidered all over in leaves and stems of the same color. Trimmed in olive raw and dupioni silk. Spiral laced on each side.
Finish and adjust
- trim band
- closure/pockets on skirt

Next on Deck
-pink flower chemise - It cut and partially sewn.
-tangerine dupioni corded petticoat
-Italian camica
-Venetian Courtesan
-Italian partlet
-test doublet - cut, waiting sewing
-blue petticoat/skirt
-Natural-blue linen doublet
-blue linen bodice
-effigy corset
-middles farthingale
-red silk gentry/gold linen
-Tudor overpartlet
-copper silk/black velvet gentry
-harbor mistress
-black sun forepart/sleeves

Ambitious (and unrealisitc) as ever:

Drawstring linen chemise and bloomers
Bumroll
Corset
Hoopskirt with ruffles
Re-do navy Elizabethan gown
Black and gold Tudor
Re-do light blue Elizabethan
Re-do Tudor wedding gown
Make my friend a gown
Make my hubby an ensemble

Between my job and LIFE in general I should have the above mentioned projects completed...oh...say...

Remarkably short and completely realistic list;

1) Knee length trews for hubby.
  fabric & pattern in hand
2) New blue skirt, pleated.
current is gathered, wanting knife or box pleat

Yes, yes, yes!

Want a few things, but not much in the way of sewing projects...

Middle-class gown, possibly middle German, if I can find the right
pictures to crib design from...  I would prefer not to have hoops.

Linen coif, embroidered, to go under hat

                      Hat, Germanic  not Landschnecken...

                      New shirt, linen, blackwork...

Yeah, I don't choose easy things.

If Genievea's working on stuff, then I'd better be, too! :D

Actually got quite a bit done today.  This afternoon did a test for the front section of the corded Simplicity corset, and I think that's going to work fine.  Tomorrow I'll mark channels on the real front pieces, and try a test of cording closed channels (it will require a new tool, or at least a new approach).

Tonight made a tentative pivot & slash alteration to the Gimli tunic pattern (pending Kate's approval), and if I'm on the right track, I'll finish that up tomorrow and maybe cut a new mockup.

...And then there was the Cursed E-collar Project.  I'm making my dogs a soft e-collar (one just had dental surgery and another one has an injured ear), and it just. Will. Not. Cooperate. It vexeth me sorely.  I've made one before, and this one went together brilliantly until I tried to bind it.  I've pinned the binding on three times and sewn it on twice, and something goes horribly wrong each time.  I *may* have another go at it tomorrow, but after that, I quit.  Forsooth.

The Long & Fanciful, If-I-find-the-dollars-and-when-will-there-be-time List.

1) Robin Hood style hat for my rogue
2) Set of trews for my 15-year old son
3) Tunic for the boy's friend, Tristan, with his family emblem, which is a smithy's hammer.
4) More embroidery on the midieval bonnet.
5) Totally JFF bodice & skirt in the purples I could not resist. (admitted fabricoholic, here)
6) Leather jerkin (or even doublet) for my rogue.
7) New snood.
8. Mob cap.
Continuing with the Pie-in-the-Sky portion of the list.
9) Full length cloak for son, he wants it hugely embroidered.
10) High class gown for myself.  Style & fabrics to be determined.

If half the list is completed in 2010, that would be doing really very well.

Well LOTS to do this year and I'll be happy to get a third of it done. Some of it is a must and some of it is dreaming.

1. Puppy costume for my 2nd grader's play in 2 weeks
2. New bodice for myself
3. 2 new sets of garb for my 4 and 7 year old girls because they just won't stop growing :)
4. New shirt for hubby (hopefully 2)
5. New breeches for hubby
6. I would also like to make him a sleeveless jacket that resembles a captain's coat. It gets mighty hot here in the summer (except last year) so he would like something that's not too sweltering. We'll see what I can come up with.
7. Italian gown for myself
8. New linen chemise for myself
9. Finally make the pillbox hat I've wanted to work on for a year
10. 2 cloaks for the girls because if this summer is anything like last summer we actually had a few chilly days.
11. Irish dress for me

OK I think that's everything. Other than notions, trims, and a few patterns, everything else will be coming out of my stash. I bought some fabric with my birthday gift cards and I'm calling it quits with that. If I add anymore fabric to the house, I'm afraid my husband might have an apoplexy. He just doesn't fully understand my fabricholism :)

Oh goodness, I need a list.  I have it all swimming about in my head....i need a list.  Well first I need to loose weight.  There...that is #1 on the list.  After my husband came home from Iraq this past June....I gained 22 pounds.Last season I squeezed into garb, made one quick and easy Itailian gown and now I refuse to sew anything else for myself until I loose those 22 pounds.  There are a few things for others though....

TO SEW in 2010

-black linen shirt for my husband
-sporran for my husband
-black wool doublet for my husband
-various items to sell at our highland fest in june...mens shirts, hats, chemises, skirts, maybe a cloak or two.

and that is all i can think of specifically at this moment.  :)

Oh I just thought of one more thing to add to the list!

I want a DOLLY!!!!!!! And I wanna make her teeny tiny clothes to match all my garb!

This is totally in my "Follies" category of sewing, but it would really make me happy.

A brand new ensemble for Katya Ghuttzhout- my character at MiRF. Expect more Elizabethan Goth!

Also a lot of steampunk.

I'm going to make this costume:

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu101/potocostumes/elissa/th_ushanson2.jpg) (http://s638.photobucket.com/albums/uu101/potocostumes/elissa/ushanson2.jpg)(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu101/potocostumes/elissa/th_vegasbatman2.jpg) (http://s638.photobucket.com/albums/uu101/potocostumes/elissa/vegasbatman2.jpg)
It's from "Phantom of the Opera". I've made a red version of it before (used in Europe), and now I'm attempting the green version (as seen in the USA).

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/operafantomet/renaissanceportraits/roma/th_vittoriafarneseromaelurbino1540s.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v31/operafantomet/renaissanceportraits/roma/vittoriafarneseromaelurbino1540s.jpg)
I'm also planning a Roman renaissance outfit. It's quite similar to Tuscan dresses, but more subdued colours and almost always a golden veil on the head. http://aneafiles.webs.com/roman.html

Plus maybe finish my many in-progress projects...?  ;D

As far as renaissance fair garb stuff goes I have to make

1- 1 bodice! for myself, it will be reversible
2- 2 skirts for myself, one will be a 2 colored panel skirt, the other will be a solid colored skirt
3- a chemise or two in different colors
4- two cavalier/pirate shirts for my husband, one blue, one back
5- 1 pair of tights for my husband
6- 1 pair of loose pirate pants for my husband
7-random jewelry pieces, bags/pouches and accessories.

and most of this will need to be done before April for Rendezvous
and the biggest problem is that since I had gastric bypass in December, im not sure what size to make because ive lost 30 lbs so far, and April is 3 months away! who knows how much i will lose then! i guess elastic or drawstrings for the skirts! and back and side lacing for my bodice!

Well, my grand goals kind of dwindled away to not much!  But the good news is I've actually made some decent progress on my corded corset this week.  A few days ago I marked all the boning channels and seam lines, and today I sewed the pieces together and started sewing the boning channels.  Huzzah for progress!!

I've told Milord I'd like to get the Gimli tunic done for his birthday in March.

Started the overtunic.  Wound up using a cheapie pattern, following the pattern and winding up with something that will double as a tent!  Need to take almost 2.5 inches out of the center, then will finish up the hem and neckline.  Then I'll fix the pattern before cutting the undertunic.  Also need to add gores to the undertunic.  Should I only add gores to the sides or to the front as well?

I think (important word being think) that I have decided to do a theme this year for garb.  Woman from 16th century-ish history.

Grace O'Mailey 1530-1630 Irish "Pirate"
Elizabeth Bathory 1560-1614 Hungarian serial killer
Mira Bai 1498-1547 Rajput Princess, poet and Hindu Saint
Sofonisba Anguissola 1532-1625 Italian artist
Lady Sanjo Mid 1500's wife (one of several) of Takeda Harunobu Shingen
Helena Snakeborg 1549-1635 Swedish born  noblewoman and Maid of Honour of Queen Elizabeth I

And if time permits I want to do Mina Harker from Bram Stoker's Dracula for Day of Wrong.
Technically I have nothing but time, sooooo....now to get motivated!

;D

Things changed! A dear Friend has been asked to join the Laurel so she is being honoured for her cooking skills which are plentiful.
She has an Italian Persona, so to again honor her, I want to have Italians made up for the family this will happen we think in June.

So here is the one I have been wanting to bring to life:

I am making this out of linen and lining it with linen because of where I am (California) and the heat issues.  If I can find cotton sateen in orange and deep green I would much rather do it in that because it mimics the sheen we see in the portrait.  I found what looks like the perfect colors from Fabric-Store, and I have 4 yards of each of the fabrics on hold for now I might have to move to having 5 yards for each for just in case issues.

Wish me luck!

No more ren garb as yet, but to add to the pile:

ANOTHER red wedding dress, 50's style!  Not heard back yet on that one, but the bid is in.

For Maquerade next year:

A complete set of 18th C garb for a 3 day event!  This is set in the Venice carnival, circa 1760...

3 chemises
1 pair of stays
1 pair pocket hoops
1 under petticoat
1 quilted petticoat
1 carao jacket
1 sack back gown for the masked ball
1 polonaise a la Anglaise
1 velvet cloak
2 fichous
At least one hat!

And I need to sort out hair and find shoes...

I'm aiming to start on the underpinnings over the summer, and do the main bulk in October/November/January/February, as the event is in March.  We shall see!

Here it is the beginning of April and I have done absolutely no sewing!

#1- Finish the green wool Florentine gown I finally started back in Nov. from fabric purchased 2 or 3 years ago!

#2- Possibly make a Venetian gown from the deep red and gold  damask purchased for the project last year.

Honestly, I'm not holding my breathe on getting any new garb done this year with a second grandbaby coming any time now, one kid graudating highschool this spring, one getting married in September, and one getting married in October.

Cilean, cotton sateen would be beautiful in that gown! If you can't find yardage, you might look for cotton sateen sheet sets. A couple of king sized flat sheets should be enough.

However... I've always pictured that gown as being velvet! And Renaissance Fabrics has the most beautiful orange velveteen (http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/cgi-bin/showAll.cgi?id=484) in stock right now:

I just spent yesterday and today making a new corset for my daughter.  Same "rat grey" outer, and same maroon inner, but she wanted it to be less plain.  I sewed verticle ribbon (alternating 2 then 1) on the outer piece, and then assembled the outer with the cord layer.  Made the pockets for the boning (I used nylon ties) and for the busk (I used a web belt).  Also had 6 pockets on each side of the back.  Still have to make the eyelets, the straps, and possibly a bit of decoration along the top and bottom edges.

It went fast.

I am making a shirt, sleevless doublet, and slops for a friend (already have his hat!), and will possibly make garb for his wife and daughter for the MN renfest opening day.

Cool!

Well I'm not really sure what I'm doing now.  With Hubby being deployed in the fall (meaning I'm not sure how often I'll even make it to faire this year and when I do go I'll have to have garb I can get myself into and be able to drive in) and the slight lack of fabric fund-age, I really have to rethink the the whole garb sewing priority list.  Maybe I'll just put some effort into making the garb I have, a little easier to put on by myself.  Maybe I'll just make a few easy to wear working class pieces to mix and match.  AHHHHH  I don't know.

Approaching the end of a new garb project this year- split skirt, bodice- both with veleteen guards, forpart with pearls sloshed all over it.  Still have to make the paned sleeves and arrafet - likely as not will make 2 new chemises and coifs as well....got a "raise" in social standing- wouldn't do to show up in old crummy looking chemises!

going to  Costume College in Aug- gotta get going on a Victorian with Steampunk leanings after that - from the underwear out!
still looking for a piece of "just the right" fabric to go with a couple of other burgundy for some lacey or gauzy finishing touches....had one all lined out- but by the time I had the $$ stashed it had dissappeared!

Imestra, I have done a little bit: I've finished construction on the corded corset (just need to bind it and put in the eyelets), had a catastrophic start on Milord's Gimli tunic and put it away in frustration (but will be getting it out again this week), and I've started a new kirtle mockup (not an item on the list, but oh, well!).

Let's see...  No, sister Imestra, I merely pressed the older chemise for a fresh look.  Finished the mitts with blackwork to wear in the sun, and new bloomers...   Still looking for the right weight of linen/cotton to make a new chemise.  Want to make a doublet style gown with a small ruff collar.  Found a self-portrait by Sofonisba Anguisolla(SIC?) of her and her sisters playing chess.  They all wear square-necked gowns, with chemise-shirts with blackworked collars and plackets and cuffs, with small ruff edgings.  I'm thinking November at the Castle.  Covered.  Good.

Almost finished a couple things on my list. My new shirt is done, except for the bottom edge needs to be finished. Amara has a new, reversable bodice all finished off, except for maybe some simple trim, and a new skirt, which has been worn, but not hemmed. Also finished off her cloak.
After finishing hems, guess its time to hit the thrift store to get a couple dress shirts, and cut them to peices to try to get myself a doublet pattern. either that, or at least embelish my jerkin.

Well I just figured out what I have to do before we can even consider going to faire....

1.) Dresses for my 2 daughters - I will keep them simple and they will consist of a chemise and some sort of over dress.  Fabric for the over-dresses already purchased and prewashed.
2.) One or two skirts for myself - one in black and one in another color.  Black fabric already purchased, but not yet washed.
3.) A full-length chemise for myself - need to purchase fabric for this and will most likely do so in the next couple of days.
4.) A pair of pants for my hubby - once he makes up his mind what color he wants I can buy the fabric and get started on these.

The kicker?   Faire is on June 5th!  I guess my life will consist of doing nothing but sewing for the next month.  *sigh*  See you in a month! LOL

Lady Shadow, ain't that the truth!

***
I've finished the kirtle bodice mockup; just need to baste on the lacing strips and do a test-fit. I had to make a second set of lacing strips, so now I have two with the machine-done eyelets: one that's something like 20" long for front/back lacing (no, I'm not quite that tall! LOL; I just cut strips to practice the eyelet function0, and one set that's about 10" long (for side/side back lacing). I can't do the fitting until I get a new seam ripper (Milord broke mine).

Taking a break at the moment to work on a little cross stitch.

well, Scarby is over (for us at least) so I have till opening TRF to make/mend:

mend both chemises (linen one is torn at gusset seams, silk one lost it's cuff buttons)

mend/make new bloomers

Sherwood garb for hubby (thinking linen/tropic weight brown wool hose/pants, bound at calf with leather thongs, with cream linen shirt and quilted green linen doublet)

more fanciful/faerie stuff for me (inc new wings...my first pair are, pretty much, dead)

and this!

both nice wool- 3 yrds of the pink, 2 of the plaid- thinking a circular skirt with plaid gussets... could wear with my black pirate Moresca, maybe find a blue/turquoise for a top? I know it's LOUD, but... kinda awesome! am i crazy?

Oh geeze.. am I behind... here it is the first of May and I haven't made a thing for myself.  Though I have been very busy with sewing for others.  I actually made 40 pairs of stretch velvet tights in 2 weeks.  They were all ordered!  Didn't think I would ever get those done.

Right now I am working on a prom dress.

When all the paying jobs are done, I have a ivory and gold doublet for hubby, a surcoat with fur for hubby, and.... wow.. that is it for hubby, normally his list is longer than mine.

For myself, I really want to complete all of the gowns that I have started.  My white/pink/grey I need to finish the sleeves, (mainly beading).  My blue, is all beading.  My red, all beading.  My gold needs sleeves and to finish the beading.  I also have a black and white gown that needs to be done before the end of the year for the Renaissance Masqued Black and White Ball.
IF I can get all of that finished,  I have materials for a new pink dres, a new blue dress,  a new purple dress, a new red dress, a new peach dress, a light blue dress, ummmm.. I think that is it.. LOL

Some plans change, some never happen, and new things get added to the list!  Mine is a different shape from several months ago:

Customer stuff:

1 Regency hat for 16th May
1 proto pair of gloves for the same...
1 glove alteration for same...

1 Victorian gown
1 Victorian straw bonnet

1 tuquoise top and skirt mundane set for VERY large lady...
1 Demerera sugar coloured set the same...
(Both of these in rather splendid and different broidery anglaise cotton, one with a border that will mean some canny cutting on my part to get a nice even hem on both top and skirt)

1 cherry red silk dupion wedding gown
3 bitter chocolate bridesmaid gowns to go with it
1 mother of the bride outfit (to be determined)

3 pairs of trousers to alter for a friend
Little sis's giant floor cushions to finish

Personal:

1 set 18th C stays (3/4 finished)
1 set pocket hoops (done!  Yay!)
3 shifts (all cut, one 3/4 sewn)
1 under petticoat
1 quilted petticoat
1 caraco jacket
1 polonaise gown with matching petticoat
1 sack back gown with matching petticoat
1 cloak
1 tricorne hat
1 straw hat
1 mini tricorne hat!

one set of mundanes: velour trousers and cardigan jacket: cut but not yet sewn!

Kate, I want you to post progress pix in the WIPs thread!! Eighteenth Century is my second love in costuming.  :D

My list has *totally* changed from where I was in January, and that's OK!  I spent yesterday prepping fabric and studying patterns, and today I worked on last-minute details to finish up my ensemble for Fair next weekend. I added a modesty panel to my pink Simplicity corset (should have done that last year), and I've just sewn up a bumroll from that same pattern. Just need to pick up some fiberfill tomorrow, and I'll be ready for GSLRF on Sunday!

I'll also be looking for some Tru-Grid, so I can transfer my Margo Anderson patterns to it. I hope to get some smock pieces cut out by Thursday.

Onward!!

I have to finish my blue Tudor (ish) gown and all the various bits that go with it- opening gate is apon me on friday!

When I'm done with / recovered from that I want to build a victorian outfit for Costume College this year...not sure about steam-punk...might just wait for next year to get my brain really wrapped around it!

To do before May 21 (for Dubuque on May 22!!!)

1. Finish converting the bodice on my black gown to lace at the side backs in addition to hooking in the front (to deal with weight fluctuations). - Just have clean up work to do on this.
2. Add new shoulder loops to black bodice to spice it up.
3. Two new high-necked smocks, to replace the smocks I made 3 years ago. I have pretty blackwork-like embroidered cotton to use for the sleeve cuffs and neck ruff.
4. One more shirt for my ever-growing son.

I may have to bring the sewing machine with me...

I am in deep envy of those of you that have been working on any of your projects.
We are almost half way through the year and I havent done a single stitch of anything.
I am supposed ot be moving in July and my goal at the beginning of the year was to go through and utilize at least 1 bin from my fabric stash.
Ya I have done diddly squat.
At least I have been good and haven't added to the stash.

:'(
im gonna go sulk now

Lady R, when you recover from your rush to get finished for Dubuque, would you consider putting up a post about how you made the alterations to the black bodice? I think it sounds like a tremendously useful alteration, and I know I'd love to hear how you went about it all!

And Auryn, I hear you! I mentioned in another post that I'd all but given up on getting anything done the first half of this year... and then we found out we'd be at GSLRF this month and the sewing bug hit me big time. Maybe you need to throw in an extra, *early* fair to get you going!

gem,
wish I could but here in south florida faires are all done until the late fall and there is no money in the budget for traveling to any faires. All our pennies have to be saved up for the move.
btw- I love your colored embroidery on the "blackwork" fabric you got your hands on the other day.

I've completely resigned myself to not sewing anything until after the move.
I'm gonna start packing up all the sewing accoutrements next week.

Epic Fail on it all, moving killed me on getting my work stuff done so this all is on the back burner for a while

Bodice flatlined and ready to be sewn together.abandoned for something else!
2. Fantasy forest huntswoman garb to match the new Ranger:  Pattern pick out and cut.  Lining purchased.  Waiting on Linen swatches Debuted 15 May STL Ren Faire
3.New hats and pouches
4.Candlewicked Pillow case just for fun when frustrated with the garb.
5. 2 skirt reworks
6. Finish Chemise from last year

New Kirtle and Chemise for my Youngest Daughter. Decided she didn't want anything new  :-\

Oh, finish the fitted English gown!  I'm thinking of one, too, if I can find some charcoal grey wool flannel. We can wear them together at KCRF! (And watch, it will be 100 degrees when you come this time.  :P)

Oh...my list for this year...all depends on money, and cooperation from family and friends.

For me
Overskirt (got the material)

peasant blouse for faun (just bought this lovely burnt orange crinkle cotton!)
bodice/vest for faun
underpants w/padding for faun
fur pants for faun (edit...SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! The free swatches for the fur shipped today!)
white chemise (I've got the material)

For mom

bodice
chemise/peasant blouse
Now she wants a medieval style dress, I have the pattern...so now I gotta start hunting fabric.

For dad
hooded robes for his Druid persona
tunic
pants

For friends
2 skirts (they have material)
chemise (blouse)
pajama pants (teaching her to sew, these will double as bloomers) (she has material)

I'm evaluating my garb requirements for Pennsic right now, so I may be throwing together some things.  Two things that have to be done are 1) I have to finish that gauzy brown blouse!  It just sits with pins it it  :) and 2) I need to add a few inches to my linen undertunic.  Seems I had a brain fart when I hemmed it.  I marked where I wanted the tunic to fall to, then used that as a cutting line!!!  oops.

Actually, I have what I usually bring, I'm just having to see if it all still fits  :-O  and if I want to throw together any more lightweight skitrs.  Besides, I got pretty turned off to the chiton when I saw someone wearing it in a very modern pattern, like stylized sun, moon and stars.  Now, I'm no authenticity police, but I know that that material was decidedly not period  ;-)

This is what I wanted to finish before my friend's Laurelling which will be this weekend:

I was lucky and was able to purchase 5 yards each of Burnt Orange and Deep Green Linen (heat is tough for me) for $4.00 per yard plus the gold buttons was a bag for $4.00.  I have lining Linen for $5.00 a yard so the whole gown including thread and lining fabrics will be under $50.00........ :-X

But with the Rotator Cuff injury and now I am still waiting for the surgery.... I can't cut or sew for very long. Even with my lovely special Diamond of luciousness.

So instead I am going to use my Venetian that was going to be my 12th Night Gown, so I shall still look good so I need to put together a fan and hem the gown, and I am done!

I will be using what time I have to finish my Hubby's outfit and my 2 sons tunics (they don't like Liz gear-Go figure)

Ouch, Cilean! Rest up and look at pretty things, and let those men fend for themselves!!

Do you have a dress diary for that orange gown? I'd love to hear more about the construction details, particularly of that odd ruffle-flounce-thing at the top of the skirt.

And most importantly: are you making that curly headpiece?!!

The fluffy hip area is due to an extra long skirt, folded up and gathered/pleated as a double layer in the waist. The same feature occurs later in the century in wheel farthingale fashion. I'm guessing it was done to make the hip area more prominent, but it might also originally has had a practical reason (from Medieval times when skirts often were constructed too long, and they were pinned, tugged or held up when walking - Queen Margareta's golden dress is an example of this, see a replica here: http://www.durantextiles.com/newsletter/documents/news_3be_10.asp)

Several portraits of Queen Elizabeth I shows such a "peplum" in the upper skirt, and of course it became fashionable for most English nobility. It can be seen in these links:
http://www.marileecody.com/gloriana/elizabethditchley.jpg
http://www.gogmsite.net/_Media/bessthrockmorton.jpg
http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/images/h2/h2_11.149.1.jpg

In Italian fashion it occurs early in the 16th century, especially in Veneto (as the green/orange dress is an example of), and it also disappears early. I dunno why.

Much to do this year.
     Eldest son: white shirt w/blackwork
                     blue shirt w/ribbon
black velvet doublet w/blue embroidery scrollwork
                     hat
maybe new pants (if I have time)

     Youngest son: finish doublet
                         finish hat
                         white shirt w/blackwork

Daughter: new gown with farthingale and bumroll and hat

     Son-in-law: white shirt w/blackwork
new doublet-black with 2 different types of fabric pieced to have a chevron design all
                      over
                      new hat

Husband: white shirt and another color (haven't decided which, blue or green)
                   doublet
                   pants

     Self: farthingale
            bumroll?
partlet w/blackwork or maybe just a new chemise (green?) and bloomers to match

all before the first w/e of November for TRF.
Yeah, I need the equivalent of the Keebler elves for sewing.

Okay mine is ;

1  Short doublet for me
2  Shirt
3  pants
4  Long doublet for my lord.
5  shirt also for him
6  pants for him

Okay, :P  I have been procrastinating but not totally. I have the short doublet cut out and lining. As well as the long doublet outer shell cut out. Once I get the doublets finished the rest will be a breeze.

I just need the distractions to stop, and motivation to kick my butt. Any suggestions on that last part? Anyone?   ::)

Hmm, project list for the year?
For me:
Shirt
doublet
pants
hat I can't believe it, but I actually got snarked about this one. I have a large head, and it is difficult to get hats to fit proper. I've made a couple testers, but haven't got a final one finished enough to wear. This weekend I had somebody ask if I had done my wagon (see below) and the family's garb. When I said yes, he said "then make yourself a hat" and walked away.
But first, decide on style and fabric.
For the wife:
Bodice (she likes her old one, but I can do better now)
fix/finish last year's skirts
linen chemise started
hat
For the kids: Most likely 2 or 3 complete new sets of garb each, depending on how they grow. Thinking kilt for Tristan, just so I don't have to make too many things. I shortened Amara's chemise from last year to fit Tristan, and tacked pleats into a soft plaid flannel for 'insta-kilt'. Amara has new reversable bodice, with a little room to grow, and new skirts, as well as a new braided belt.
Misc/multi purpose: Decide what to do with purple velvet, organize & inventory stash, get new notions/tools box (and still need to organize), build new kitchen cabinets (I stow my sewing table/cart under a cabinet in the kitchen, and tend to use it as pantry overflow as much as for sewing)
New project added: wagon cover for kids wagon. Started, and about 3/4 done. Took it on a test drive this weekend, and got lots of comments. Unfortunately, there was some kind of spill on the top fabric, and a couple days of sun has bleached a large spot, so I may have to re-build the actual top.
I may have to add new boots for myself to the list if I can't get inserts to fit my old ones.

My daughter informed me that her Boyfriend will need some simple garb for this MNRF season as well as her good friend's husband. Nothing fancy. A step above peasant, but not Noble class.

Then! My 13 year old granddaughter wants a gown, more in the Cavalier style in reds and blacks. She liked my Cavalier hat I made, so I am going to make her one in a  smaller size. Nothing too girly, but feminine all the same.

Looks like summer is going to be busy as I am looking to add two more vendors who are interested in working with me. Don't worry! I will be making time for Ren Festing!!

Pink Pirate:
-Make a nice favor sash for his belt

M'Lord Tristan Flamingo
-New Doublet
-New Shirt
-New Hat!

Lady Stitch
-New Coat
-New Blouse with Embroidery
-New Patchwork skirt
-New Top hat with Sewing 'Things' on it.

Then add all the theater work I have to do.  Some where in there I get to have some fun for myself.

Yes, I am planning on making the Curly piece from Wheat because I have no earthly idea as to what it is on her head!!!

I am not making the silly extra on the gown I never have liked late period 1580's to 1600's because of the exaggerated waistline and the  Wheel of death, I just don't think anyone looks good with it.  But this gown will be on hold probably until next year...Heavy Sigh, because of the injury I just don't know what is going to be, and how my arm will react .....

I just can't get myself to sew.  Ahhhh!!!  It's really kinda frustrating.  I know that alot of you have talked about running into a wall from time to time.  How do you get past it?  I can't even make up my mind about what I want for garb this year.  I'm sure that would be a good start huh?

At the beginning of the year I had my heart set on doing 16th century woman.  I had it all figured out who I wanted to recreate.  But money is an issue this year so then I figured I just needed to fix up, and in some casses, re-do garb I already have.  But I am trying to lose weight, and since my husband will be gone most the faire season, wearing nobles isn't sounding like a good idea (most of the garb I have now is upper class/noble).

So then I got thinking about what kind of garb would be easy to get into myself, easy to drive in and be something different.  Lower Class, Middle Eastern, Medieval and some Italian styles...come to mind.  If I could just figure out how to make all my noble bodices front opening and adjustable...I'd be all set.

Thanks for letting me clear my creative mind.  It's been a jumbled mess in there.

-1780's gown

Ren:
Two Bodices
Petticoat
Chemise

I have the patterns for all of my ren stuff, but I would LOVE suggestions for my two non-Renaissance pieces...I haven't really done much work outside of Ren, (one Regency gown, but they aren't terribly hard) so I'm kinda fumbling along on how I'm going to do all of this.

A friend of mine who does tudor upper class costuming has her bodices hooked down the front as well as laced in back.  Probably not for someone who wears their clothes really snug but otherwise it works very well and is practically undetectable.
You can't go wrong just 'wenching' it.  It's cool, easy to clean and easy to dress. You just need a chemise/bodice and skirt, kerchief, muffin hat or a snood.  You probably have some, if not all of the pieces already.

Flidais, you just need some inspiration!  (And another project you're SUPPOSED to be working on wouldn't hurt, either).  Also, if you have too much free time in which to work, that's definitely going to mess with your decision-making skills.

Flip through some art books. Pull out some movies you haven't watched in a while (I'm going to recommend "Much Ado About Nothing" here. Hee!). Fondle your stash. Or better yet: stroll through the fabric store when you need absolutely nothing.  I can almost guarantee something will fling out and bite you. :b

CapnFaye That is awesome! I first looked at the picture and thought "what is this a picture of?" But then I read it - Kaylee Frye's green coveralls - it is perfect! I love the teddy bear patch. I don't remember that, is that your own touch?

Thanks for the compliments! I painstakingly looked at a TON of pictures of the green coveralls to get them just right - the Chinese writing, the patches, the pockets... The teddy bear patch is actually on her green coveralls, and I got lucky and found the same patch for a pretty good price!

The most fun was taking the coveralls out and beating the everliving snot out of them and dragging them and running over them to age them a bit. :D

Lady Rosalind, I'm going to try to make it to the local Can't Stop the Serenity event! I won't have the Shindig dress ready in time, so I'm hoping to finish that in time for Dragon*Con or maybe seeing what the local Browncoats want to do around holiday time and have our own shindig. I just know I HAVE to make the dress! I've had several requests lol!

Thanks for the inspiring thoughts!  My stash has upper/noble written all over it. Some wonderful velvets, silks and things like that, that I've picked up over the years.  I've been go threw all the pics I have saved (I have a memory card full of idea pics), reading (again) my Tudor Tailor book and looking threw Historic Costumes in Pictures.... I still am torn.  But always find myself totally drooling over middle and upper class Elizabethan garb.  Lucky for me that just happens to be what sort of fabrics I have, as well as existing garb.  As much as I'd love to dabble elsewhere, I have made up my mind.  Besides I cannot afford the right fabric to do medieval or middle eastern.  Those both would require alot of linen that I just don't have the fundage for.

Tonight I am going to sit down and sketch out some ideas.  Woooohooo

Sometimes I get in such a creative rut.  Trying to get my thoughts flowing is like sucking a really thick shake threw a tiny straw....mmmmm chocolate shake....

I marked where I wanted the tunic to fall to, then used that as a cutting line!!!  oops.

OK, since I leave in two days (squee!) I thought I would update.  I finished everything I needed for this year and then some.  Brown was the theme this year; I finished the brown gauze blouse, plus made another one that I'll describe as caramel, I bit the bullet and made a chiton out of some brown homespun check/plaid, added 2 inches to the linen undertunic (which actually went easier than I thought it would) and made myself a new brown skirt.  I'd post a picture of my chiton (bog dress) but I can't get to photobucket at work.  It's up on facebook, and I'm actually pretty happy with how it came out.

Finished the chemises and the pairs of bodies for my friend's wife and dau.  Have completed his wife's skirt, except for the hem and the fasteners.  About to start on his dau's skirt.  Have one of their hats done, will most likely make another.  Yay!  Almost done with everything!

Next project is a sleeveless jerkin for my son for next year, and a new shirt with blackworked sleeves.  Gonna by the Margo Anderson men's patterns for the jerkin.  Maybe even make some sort of trousers for him; we'll see.

I will!  I want to see what they look like on them.  I got a few of my buddy modeling his garb when he first got it, but he had no idea of how to wear it.  The trousers were on backwards, the shirt was untucked, no socks or shoes.  It'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get photos (that is, after I come back from the MN renfaire).  I will post them, though!

I'm updating, because we are two weeks away from opening weekend (well, less now!!), and it's a good time to share what my actual to-do list for Fair turned out to be!

Much Ado About Nothing garb:
--One muslin skirt (all but hemmed)
--One white linen skirt (needs a new waistband & hemmed)
--Two cream twill vests (not yet started; need to go fabric shopping this week)
--One cream button-front bodice with pleated peplum (mockup finished; final not yet begun)
--One 18th-century-esque cream vest (needs its peplum and buttons, and it's done!)
--Two pairs of blue men's pants (on order)

Other Projects:
--Corded, curved-front-opening linen gown (bodice mockup complete; contemplating guards)
--Gimli tunic (need to start the mockup)

I have nearly 3 weeks to get the Much Ado stuff done, and I think I can manage it. Tuesday's project is assembling the Ursula jacket peplum, and Wednesday I'll tackle the corded linen dress in earnest. Once the Much Ado and linen dress are done, it's Gimli all the way!

My list as it stands:

-make late 1930's cocktail dress (one of my costumes for Dames at Sea) by the beginning of Oct done!
-take in another dress that I bought at Goodwill for another costume for Dames. done!
-finish Ren corset (I have all of the boning channels in, one side needs the reverse fabric added, then I need to add 3/4 of the eyelets, insert the boning, and bind)
-finish the chemise (I almost forgot about it!) that needs a little altering, plus the other sleeve and collar added.
-finish hand-binding eyelets and bias binding on my 17th cent stays (possibly adding tie-on straps)
-new navy velvet doublet bodice and skirt for faire. I'm hoping to finish by the Lady of the Lakes faire.
-Civil War gown for the SF Dickens Fest
-probably something for my parents for Dickens
-and at some point, figuring out how to do my 17th cent gown. It's been in the planning stages for over a year now.

So I completed (or gave up on) everything from my original list...so its time for an update

Ren projects
-knee length chemise for roomie
-25yd skirt for roomie
-cropped underbust...to add to my pirate look...

NON-REN projects
-star trek uniform (commission/halloween costume)
-lolita kimono (commission)
-either link or Obi Wan Kenobi (ep 2) (commission, client still hasn't decided, for halloween)
-various pokemon hats for people

I'm pretty sure I've got more...or will have more....but for now I really need to finish the pillowcases for my moms preschool class...

I have finished the Ursula jacket! (all but buttons/holes, which I'll do when my in-laws arrive for fair)

Everything was going swimmingly, until that last hand-stitching of the peplum facing. For some reason, the white cotton broadcloth (an old fitted sheet) was MURDER to stitch through! I was thinking of lining my Beatrice bodice in it, but after this, I'm going with muslin!

I also picked up the fabric for the men's vests today, but didn't have time to iron/cut yet. Milord will have to go back and pick out buttons this weekend. I am not looking forward to all those buttonholes, that's for sure!

Tomorrow I'm going to work on the vest patterns, and hopefully carve out some time for the linen dress. I have some Real Life work to do (updates to my website and some book trailer stuff), so that will eat into some of my day.   >:(

Well, I am bumping this up as 2010 draws to a close to see how we all did! I just made a list of what I actually accomplished this year, and it doesn't resemble my goal list AT ALL! LOL

Here's what I said I wanted to make:
1. Gimli tunic for Milord
2. Corded corset
3. new middle-class skirt
4. doublet bodice
5. Margo Anderson Tudor kirtle
6. Promenade kirtle
7. a hand-made linen shirt (for me or Milord, I am undecided)
8. Some piece of Milord's Tudor Claus ensemble

And here's what I DID make:
1. Bum Roll
2. Much Ado skirt for Milord's mum
3. Much Ado skirt for me
4. Much Ado bodice for Milord's mum
5. Much Ado bodice for me
6. Much Ado vest for FIL
7. Much Ado vest for Milord
8. Gimli tunic
9. Tree skirt

Projects I started & didn't complete:
10. Green corded corset (item #2 above)
11. Corded curved-front gown
12. Frankensmockup (mockup for a smock of embroidered linen I'm working on)
13. purple skirt (item #3 above)

Yet again, no progress on Promenade, and I didn't finish a project I really wanted to wear to Fair this year (the corded curved-front gown), so overall I'm sort of disappointed in my output. And yet I finished NINE projects! Seven of them pretty big ones, and a couple that were long overdue!! So it's good for me to see everything listed out like this. The people I sewed for were absolutely delighted with their garb, so at least I made somebody happy!

How did the rest of you do?
Title: Re: 2010 Sewing & Garbing Projects

So since I made my list in August, I think I'm cheating, but this is what I have accomplished since I got my sewing machine in May of this year:

-Pirate pants
-red chemise with blackwork
-Frankensmock
-reversible Ren corset
-turquoise late Victorian skirt and jacket
-blue late Victorian skirt and jacket
-late Victorian bicycling skirt
-1930's cocktail dress
-short white crinoline
-short bloomers
-satin and tulle circle skirt
-black underbust bodice
-bum roll
-ruffled "bustle" (that seems more like a bum roll to me)
-white chemise with blackwork
-navy velvet doublet bodice
-navy velvet cartridge-pleated overskirt
-underskirt with snaps for forepart
-hand-beaded forepart
-bustle to go with a Queen of Hearts costume
-1850s cartridge-pleated skirt
-matching 1850s jacket
-1850s blouse
-decorated two straw bonnets
-decorated three baskets
-green cartridge pleated skirt
-brown boned sash (with the points in the front)
-one crocheted shawl
-two crocheted scarves
-satin-lined wool frock coat with attachable capelet

I think that's everything...

So basically, I think the only thing I didn't get to on my list was finishing the hand-binding on my 17th cent stays.

Arte's Year in Review

I wanted to make these:
1. Steampunk Mad Hatter (includes mad scientist, aviator and salesperson) for Wicked Faire
2. Blackwatch corset, matching skirt and maybe a sash.
3. Light green florentine w/maroon trim ala Unicorn
4. Navy wool gamurra.
5. Camicias and partlets.

I only got these done:
1. Steampunk Mad Hatter (includes mad scientist, aviator and salesperson) for Wicked Faire
2. Blackwatch corset

It was at that time hubby and I moved from NY to NC. All I got done after that was my new sewing room (http://dressdiary.blogspot.com/p/sewing-room-design.html).
