Title: Faire Favors and Tokens?
Post by: Drac on January 25, 2010, 09:50:07 AM
Good day all,

My wife and I while have been Rennies for years have never done it as a social concept.  Started out with me wearing a kilt as garb to connecting to Scottish heritage to wearing a kilt away from the Faires to back to this site.  Talk about your round abouts...

Rather than high jack the thread over in the Crafts section can someone give me a skinny on the favors & tokens?  I've seen them for years but though they we just something that they put together for their outfits with some of them being pins such as the Scarby Friends pins but from the above mentioned thread I take it there is more to it?

Thanks,
Drac

Have you read through the entire thread?  I know it's long but all of your questions could be answered there.

Other than that it is basically anything you want to give out to people. ;)

Martin Montgomery was the first to give me a token that he makes and hands out....it has his "brand" on it.

Some of the pins you see are Friends of Faire pins... RF pins and this year you will see Rendezvous pins.

Make up something and hand it out to the first who buys you a pint!

I made favours as just a fun thing to hand out at RenDezvous.  They represent Marietta's name and where she's from.  They are just fun items so that new friends will remember you fondly (hopefully! ;)) later on.

Damn, I knew I should take up drinking.  Me and my tea tootling ways..  Actually I do drink, very rarely but I'm a single malt or rum fan.  I friend recently brought me a bottle of 15 year old rum from his home town in Haiti and will be bringing back a bottle of 18 year on his next visit (his family is fine and didn't have any major issue from the quake).

I will think of something.  Probably won't be a whole lot of them but I think I can come up with a couple things in the next couple months.  After working at Micheal's for a while I think I can remember a couple of the craft classes.

I have my R/F & RenDezvous pins on order.

Jim

And I'm glad you posted this in the garb area otherwise I would have never known what a favor was until it was to late.  To many forums to read and so little time!

I have so many favors and tokens I just can't put them all on my outfits for events. So I attached them to a nice piece long material sewn in like a line with a ribbon loop at the top and pin all of them on and then if I want I can attach the thing to my belt by the loop and let them dangle down my skirts.
Personally, it bugs the heck out of me seeing people with tons of favors all over their outfits and you can't see the outfit! :-\

I like having a brag rag/favor cloth for all the gifts of favors. I made mine, our captains and my husbands to hand out last year. I just like to bead  ;D
For us it is a way to let our faire friends know that we like them.

Not to pull the thread of topic, but it wouldn't have been Barbancourt would it? If so, you have the best friend in the world. Those are limited run, fine rum!

Swag rag/brag rags are seen a lot down here in Texas, to put all of the favors that you've been given on.

I know I dissected a really pretty bag from the hippie store in town to make mine.

Well I got the 8 in the wrong place.  This bottle is 8 years old and the next will be 15.

I never looked it up because I thought it just was a local distillery, kind of a micro-distillery, and also not to look a gift horse in the mouth.  It tasted real good and I appreciated the gift.  Now because of what you said I think I need to kick his butt for giving this to me.  He just said it was in thanks for all the food I bring into work (I making myself skinny by fattening up the rest of the world (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/evilgrin/evilgrin0007.gif)) but I think this is a bit much!
