Title: Eek! Help with Victorian Patterns please
Post by: Baroness de Vale on February 10, 2010, 10:15:25 PM
OK so I know this isn't renaissance related but I know that some of you ladies sew fashions for many different eras. I need patterns for about 1880-1890. Priority is for children and then adults. My daughter's girl scout troop is doing a presentation of this time period and they would like to have clothes. I would like to have one or two outfits done and I am short on time. I have 2 weeks. So if you have any suggestions, I am all ears. Thank you for any help you can provide!

If you are after the more rural prairie look this is a decent pattern for a School/club program http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m9424-products-7183.php?page_id=915 (http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m9424-products-7183.php?page_id=915) they have a few more along these lines along with the under clothing.

Truly Victorian also have lovely patterns, though only for adults. And it might take more than two weeks for them to arrive.. So maybe not for this round, but a good link to have for later. Also a nice place for inspiration and sewing help (their forum)

TV patterns arrive within a week or ordering when there are plenty of them in stock. I have ordered several patterns from them and are easy to follow.

www.patternsoftime.com (http://www.patternsoftime.com) carry period patterns for Children. I have seen a  number of patterns for girls and boys that are Victorian in design. It will also help to look at photos of the time as to how children dressed.

www.laughingmoonmerchantile.com (http://www.laughingmoonmercantile.com) is another good source for Victorian patterns. I have a number of them as well. When doing Victorian, I love the 1890's to Edwardian periods.

Here is my 1890's Victorian ensemble that has a Gothic feel to it. The Bodice was a pattern from Truly Victorian and the gored skirt was from Laughing Moon Mercantile.

With added false bottom sleeves.

Thank you so much everyone! I had definitely been figuring on doing a prairie dress with pinafore. I may even have that pattern in my stash. Then I think I'll order a pattern or several from Patterns of Time. All of these links have been very helpful so I can find patterns and get ideas for the fashions of the time! Gotta love these last minute projects. This is why I never finish all the garb I want to make for myself lol. Well I had better get cracking if I'm going to get this done.
