Title: Plus Size Bodice
Post by: PerkyPeasant on February 14, 2010, 08:01:47 PM
I need help!

I cannot find a plus size bodice that is well designed and of good quality.

I lack the skill to make my own bodice so I need to purchase one.

I need to fit my curvy size 26 body.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

You are in the right place! Lady Kathleen of Olmstead is on the boards here and does wonderful custom work and you can not find quality and price like hers.

So I have heard.  Thank you, I emailed her.

Also, I would recommend Devlyn from Oddbodkin. She makes bodices for all sizes and you can send her your measurements for a custom fit.

She's moving to Texas today   :'(

I was your size exactly and have a black Moresca bodice that is very flattering for sale. Worn just one season. In great condition.

I second the idea for Moresca. Women of all sizes wear it, and it looks FABULOUS.

I don't know if you can see much of it, but above is my black Moresca bodice. Below I am a bit smaller wearing my dark blue Moresca pirate style bodice. I am the one in the middle in dark blue.

Im also a size 26 and I recommend Odd Bodkin. Here is the link.   http://www.oddbodkin.com/
Devlyn is wonderful to work with and she has a payment plan, if you want to go that route.

I had an Odd Bodkin bodice and was happy with it, but there's no comparison with a custom bodice.  I also recommend Lady Kathleen of Olmsted.  She's made several outfits for both my husband and me, and they last and last and still look brand new.

I just found out she moved to my small town! Well I guess it was a small town, it seems to have been getting bigger and bigger over the years, but I was so surprised when I looked up her store and saw she was stationed where I live :)

Curious: I looked at Oddbodkin and am wondering if there is boning where the grommets are. I don't see any, is there?

Yes, she puts them next to the grommets

When I was purchasing my Odd Bodkin, I was told the support was enough to not wear a bra.  However, in reality, I found I need to wear one.  There is some boning, but it's not all around and solid like Moresca's or Lady Kathleen's, both of which I own.

For the price, the Odd Bodkin worked for me until I lost weight and it was too big, again, as long as I wore it with a bra, otherwise the support wasn't enough.

I also found that my off the rack Odd Bodkin looks better on me with a bra, however, I know several other people who it looks just fine on without one.  Also, I am pretty sure that at least one person I know who ordered a bodice from Devlyn was able to order it specifically with additional boning, and she looks FABULOUS in hers...

I wear support no matter what bodice I use. I have always Locklaced, but being generously endowed, just a deep exhale can result in an uncomfortable slippage.  I do not lace extremely tightly, because I like to wear the voluminous style of chemise which has a lot of material and is pretty warm.
I prefer not have to adjust myself in public, thus I hedge my bets  ;)

I have not had to wear a bra with my OddBodkin yet. If the girls start falling, then its too big on me. At least for me
