Chapter 9: Claim your prize!
If you kill Black Edward Ehresmann it only the matter of opening his throat with your gaff hook. He dies quickly and quietly, the only sounds are the waves and the cries of the gulls. The crew then awards you the position of Quartermaster with a round of cheers that break the silence! You earn +4 to your Pirate Code score and now earn 4 shares of the treasure!
If you offer Black Edward mercy you hear him breathe out a contented sigh. As you turn about to address your wounds Black Edward rises from the sand and swings a blow with his hook at the back of your neck! Suddenly the Spaniard springs into action and slams the shovel blade into Black Edward's temple shattering his skull and killing him instantly! If you were kind to Pedro he gives you a brief nod of friendship. If you treated the Spaniard with indifference or cruelty he mocks you saying that he is keeping you alive so he can slay you himself! You then see the Spanish captive beaten unconscious by the rest of the crew and dragged back aboard Neptune's Daughter in chains. The crew then awards you the position of Quartermaster with a round of cheers! You earn +2 to your Pirate Code score and now earn 4 shares of the treasure!

Captain Gilbert Lanoue also tells you that as the victor of the duel you make claim one of Black Edward Ehresmann's personal items for yourself! The remaining two items will go to his followers. Black Edward carried a mortuary sword that was rumored to once belong to Prince Rupert; a pair of ivory handled Portuguese flintlock pistols, and wore a gold ring with an onyx stone. Which one of these items do you choose?
OK I'm going to choose door number 3 the onyx ring.
The sword is only RUMOURED to belong to Prince Rupert. He's German and as a Welsh woman, I couldn't care less about it. Besides, I have a neat little bodice dagger with a ruby and inlaid with mother of pearl.
And a really neat rapier I bought when Charles II was having a castle-sale. Got a good deal, I bargained him down!
The pistols--what do the Portuguese know about firearms that the Welsh don't?
Probably nothing since I don't know anything about firearms either.
But the ring, on the other hand....
MAY THE SCHWARTZ BE WITH YOU!
OH! I'm taking the ring!
I'll get it resized when I get to Port Royal. Edward had fat fingers and mine are slim.
Until then, I wear it on a silver chain around my neck.
LOL Wenchie, I love your imagination, and sense of humor girlfriend. :)
Hmm..what to take ? You mean you only get one...but i have been really good ...no bad.. no i mean good ( crosses fingers behind her back and stares downward ) this year really i have . ::) ;)
Hmmm..what to take. Eeeny, Meeny, miney, moe...catch a pirate by the toe, if he hollers ... my mother told me to pick this.....
Hm.... I'll get back with you...can't decide.... ;D ;)
Okay... I have a fine Dutch cutlass, that I got from my Dutch father. I also have a pair of English made flintlock pistols so why would i want another pistol ?
So I am thinking I would take the ring, especially since I love onyx, and who knows it may be worth something, but then again the sword may belong to the prince and he may be give me a handsome reward for it. But then again, it is only rumored to belong.........hmmmmmmm....
< Takes out a coin >
Heads it is the ring.
Tails it is the sword
< Flips coin >
And it is Heads. I'll take the ring.
OOO..give me the ring ? You like my precious ? Yes, Precious likes. My ring..where is my ring ? Where is my Precious ?
< Sorry could not help thinking of Gollum from LOTR > ;D
<Looks at Wenchie. Sees her with the ring and follows her >
MY Precious. Give me back my Precious. You got my Precious. ;D ;D
HA! Should have gotten up earlier and posted before me!
If the ring has no mystical properties--and I am waiting to see if it does--I am going to swap the stone out for an emerald and two diamonds.
I mean, have you ever heard them sing, 'Onyx are a girl's best friend'?
*shakes the ring and listens to it like a ticking watch*
C'mon.....DO SOMETHING!
I have no use of firearms, or sparkly things fer me fingers.
But a weapon of steel..... ahhh. Now that feels good in the hand!
Being a man of sworded ways I choose the Mortuary sword. Prince Rupert Smupert! I don't collect weapons for their historical rumors. Rather I collect misguided souls that get in the way of my weapons!
*closes eyes and wishes upon the onyx ring*
'Please get Captain Spleen off my back...please get Captain Spleen off my back...please get Captain Spleen off my back...'
In a matter of speaking...hey, it's a metaphor, OK?
I think it is.
If I get around to it, I will wish Captain Spleen a new ship.

Oops! Guess I forgot the oars.... :-[
Wish again Wench! You wish way too small!
The ring is bunk!
Ersides, the size and color be all wrong!!!
Count your blessings, Spleen! She didn't try to park it for you. ;D
Though it could use a fresh coat of wax to shine it up...
While Spleen's off polishing his dinghy, I'll make my choice. Drum roll, please?
The blonde with the ring! What? I'm stuck with whatever Dead Eddie had on him? OK, fine. He was boring when he was alive, and slightly more so as a stiff.
I'll take the pistols. Always have had a fondness for things that go bang. ;)
Wow, what are the chances of this happening again? Even took all the paint off this time!
