My turn to start a thread.

Preview event - perfect light for pictures.  

I was experimenting / playing with a new camera & lens.
Also trying out some new settings on the camera, more experimentation will follow.
I've got the right camera gear - now if I could just get the technique up to the level of the equipment.

Nice photo set again Paul.

I also want to voice Hollie's and my approval of the new jousting troupe.

The horses we saw this Sunday were well muscled which meant they had been getting good care, the right feed, and proper exercise for a performance animal.

The knights showed some excellent horsemanship.

On those days when the light is right, I will try to get some better pictures of the joust.

Paul, I'm glad to hear that Hollie is really impressed with the horses this season. I know she had expressed her concern before.

The group shot was fun.  They actually took an official one, I just happened to be there at the same time and snapped my shots too.  There are serious versions, and not so serious versions.  I think that everyone had fun with both.

Costume parade isn't open to the public.  That was in the first part of the day, when just the cast was on the grounds.  It's a traditional part of Dress Rehearsal day, and is always quite fun.  They usually allow the various seamstresses to come and watch if they care to, and I got permission from Dan to come and take photos for the cast members.  It's always a light-hearted ending to the workshop portion of the season. *grin*

OK fess up time. In Sunday's Grande Parade there was one poor lass with a set of sunburned twins  :o (can I say breasts here?!). Was that any one here? When the lady walked by I contemplated snapping a pic but thought she might not want photographic evidence.

Thanks Merlin but don't throw away your camera just yet. I was testing out some pro glass I'm thinking about buying from the Stalkwells. That glass made a world of difference but OMG is it heavy. Sat was the 1st day I had used it and I'm still getting used to how it works. But I can honestly say I haven't gotten pics that I've been happier with in any of my other lenses.. ;D

Hey Squire Gaby! I mean: Hey Lady Gabrielle! I've been at every joust and have been taking plenty of pictures of both you and Lady Katherine. However, I just got a new camera (less then 2 weeks ago) so there's been a bit of a learning curve. I think I've got a better grip on how to work it now, so hopefully next weekend's pictures will be better. Anyway, you'll both get cds with all of the pictures (that don't suck) just like the Noble Cause knights did last year :) Miss getting to see them on the field SO much :'( And the reason so many cameras were aimed at you is because you look absolutely lovely on Marcus ;D

The ones they got after Faire closed.....I wasn't with them after it closed and by the time I saw them again they'd all misplaced them....silly boys.
Lol we've made that joke more than once :P  Come at a dead time and you won't be the center of attention :P

OK, I'm really behind on post-processing my Scarborough pics for this season.  (Hint: Don't go to a conference during renfaire season, really blows your schedule apart.  :P)

However I did create a panoramic of the Sat 4/24/10 R/F RenDezvous group photo from 5 shots stitched together.

There are 2 versions of the same photo:
  RenDezvous-Pano-Final-Large.jpg is HUGE 8250x2144 (about 14 MB)
  RenDezvous-Pano-Final-Med.jpg is more screen-viewable at 3078x800 (about 3 MB).

Move your mouse over the photo (if you've got JavaScript enabled in your browswer) a pop-out window should allow you to "Save Photo" (yellow folder icon with a green arrow pointing into it.)

Hope that helps until I can get caught up on the rest of the galleries.

Thank you for the comments. My nickname does not come from the Pongo Twistleton character you referenced. It actually comes from the "Daddy Dog" character in the "101 Dalmatians" movie. My daughter called me Pongo when she was around 5 yrs old.

I would also like to point out that unless you have a signed release from the subject, you do not have the legal right to sell pictures of them to anyone else, regardless of the venue.

The pictures are nice - offering to sell them is both illegal and in very poor taste.

I interpret that as no different from downloading one of the photos and sending it to Walgreen for printing. You personally are not profiting from the photos that you took so you are not using the photos for commercial gain.

I was not aware that I was breaking the rules. I have removed the ability to purchase my Scarborough Fair photos. Charging for prints and digital downloads is how zenfolio.com works. There is not a way on zenfolio.com to allow digital downloads without a fee paid to zenfolio.com. So, I will have to investigate other options to make digital downloads available to people. I did not intend to break any rules and I do not agree that it was in poor taste.

There will be a delay in regards to further photos from me, I'm afraid.  My computer monitor died an untimely death last night.  Unfortunately, the photos and the software to edit them are on my system.  I can post from my hubby's computer, or from work, but I can't do the photo work.

While your at it ;)  Keep a look out for that awesome photo you took of me Rendezvous Saturday after opening cannon as we were getting ready to go through the gates...also...your better half took the most amazing photo I have ever seen taken of the Dirt Fairy EVER!!!  She took it on Rendezvous  Saturday (I think).  I think it was taken over behind the Cat and Fiddle.  It is simply exquisite!

Since everyone else was making demands...I thought I would simply submit mine as well...lol!  ;)    *ducks so she is not hit by flying rolls of film*   ;D

I have some good intel that this past weekend (5/22 or 5/23 but I forget which day specifically, I think the 23rd) there was a hula-hoop involved in the afternoon Court Dance in Pecan Grove. Do any of our esteemed members have photos?

I have created two special PhotoSets on Flickr, one with the character names I know (or think I know), and the other for character names that I need.  Any help in naming the characters would be greatly appreciated. Just add a comment to the photo with the character name and I will update the tags. Feel free to correct or expand on the names if I have something wrong. I will keep these two PhotoSets on Flickr for everyone to use as a reference if they desire and add new characters to the "Names Needed" set as this progresses. They can be found here:

4/4 - #114 & 116 generally marched in the parade with the Scottish Court. The Queens Own Highlanders members may be able to help you out with identification.

4/10 - #30 is the gentleman at Jake's Toys.

4/10 - #505 is, I believe, one of the (or "the", not sure tho we've talked to him a bit) of Wild Wolf Forge. Just to keep me doubting myself, the Scarby website calls it the Wild Wild Forge. If his name turns out to be James West, I'm never posting again [for a day or two at least]...

4/11 - #336 is Pi (spelling uncertain), but I believe she is mainly a TRF'er but was at Scarby all season (she had the most precious toast at the pub sing on closing weekend!)

4/17 - #350 is Robin Hood from Sherwood Forest Faire in Austin...I think! :)

Thank you all for responding with names for some the these characters. You have been so good at giving me the whole filename of the photo like "20100531_1234.jpg". This makes it much easier to tag the correct photo. I have updated everything that y'all have provided except where a real name was provided instead of a character name.

I'll keep tagging as long as you keep naming. You can PM me if you perfer not to overload this thread.

I hope the "Scarby Character with Names" photoset can be an asset for the whole Scarby community.

I just realized this morning that I never posted my few, precious pictures from Scarby.  Still new to the photography thing, so the redundant pics are due to my experimentation with different shutter speeds, etc.  I don't know if I captured any of you; if I did, please let me know so I may remember and say 'Hi!'.  :)

That's wonderful! Thank you. :)  I'm still working on my skills and hope to get somewhat semi-professional pics with my camera next year.  The parade is my favorite part of the Faire as it is a plethora of awesome garb (and people).
