I can't decide what colors I want for my pirate coat that I plan on ordering from White Pavilion.
I will be using one custom color and it's a very light green, the seller called it "celedon" and on the color charts it is "OAC086."
This is where things are getting tricky for me though... I had originally wanted to use hunter as the base color, and the light green as the trim. But with the amount of fabric that I managed to get, there is more than enough to use it as the base. Now, should I go with my original idea, or maybe use the celedon as the base instead? If I went the second route, I would have the trim in either black or the hunter (more likely the black) with the brass buttons (I'm thinking about getting away from the hunter base as my gentleman has one with the hunter and black, and I don't want to be matchy-matchy with him lol).
Any suggestions?
Here's where I'll be ordering it from: http://whitepavilion.com/pirates.htm
How about a lined Burgandy Velveteen Pirate coat with Black velveteen Cuffs and Pocket flaps, with Brass buttons? A scrolled gimp works wonders as a finishing touch.
Eventually I would love to own a coat such as that, but currently I've this insatiable itch for the coat from WP. Plus, I've already purchased the fabric for my coat. It's just a matter of deciding whether or not I want it as the base or the trim.
This is what the fabric looks like.

When I have color dilemmas like this, I make a sketch of the garment and color it in different variations. I normally do this by printing off a picture from the website in B&W, taping it to a window/lightbox, and tracing around the image to get a line drawing. If you're handy in PhotoShop, that works too.
I think one reason you're not getting more responses is that this is such a matter of personal preference! We can't tell you what you will like more. I think not matching your gentleman exactly would be nice, but light green will show dirt more. Beyond that... what do you like?
I say use it as the base and then black as the accent color. It does look good (I held your fabric against my husbands coat. it was closer) and it looks good together. And it will be unique.
I would go with the hunter, it would look nice with the celedon.
I like the idea of the hunter, with the celedon for the turned back cuffs, collar, and any other accent pieces. It won't be exactly the same as your gentleman friend. As gem said, the lighter color will show the dirt easier, and it won't have the same visual eye "pop" as the darker color with the light trim, if that is something that will matter to you. You could use the extra material for a skirt or pirate bloomers to pull it together.
Based on the photo, I think the dark green as a trim would be fine with the fabric as a base. Since it's a coat, you don't have to worry about dirt quite as much (unlike with a skirt!) and a bath of oxyclean tends to work for pretty much anything. You can use the darker color for a vest and breeches.
