Title: Boot help...
Post by: Tammy on April 21, 2010, 10:36:17 PM
I took this photo this weekend at the Loch Norman Highland Games in NC. I have a friend who is in LOVE with the boots this lovely fae is wearing. Anyone seen these before? Know where she might have gotten them from?

Those look like either Catskills or one of the custom boot places.

Try Mystic Soles and Windwalkers as well.

Its also possible that they are Sandlers as well.  Hard to tell since many boot makers have many different designs.

Look at Son of Sandler. They have a similar style. They now charge as much as the others though.

Those aren't Sandlars, as Sandlar usually has the token piece of leather up the toe. See how the foot is molded? That's a custom boot. Also, may check Native Earth and Olde Soles.

Ditto the Sodhoppers.

Though it may be others make a similar boot. Looks like these anyway...

Well...actually...the other boot makers make a similar style too, now that I look. You could probably visit with a couple of the vendors at faire and see what kind of price they will give you for a custom design so you can get exactly what you want.

Thanks everyone. I directed my friend to this thread, so she's been doing some searching, and freaked at the prices. LOL!

Any normal, sane person would freak at the prices. Even though I am an abnormal, insane person, I did.

But ...

I had wanted a pair of good boots for some time, and was sore tempted when I saw Catskill Moccasins at the Florida Renaissance Festival. I thought about it overnight Saturday, then ordered the boots on Sunday. Even so, I had a bit of "What the heck am I doing?" later that day, and as I paid off the balance. It IS a lot of money.

But you know what? I'm glad I bought them. They are comfortable even for the insane amount of walking I do at faire. Saturday my wife and I were at Scarborough, and I marched all the way around the faire with the Scots, and walked and walked and walked, and while my calves hurt from all the effort, my feet felt fine.

To top it off, I have yet to wear them without getting at least one compliment.

Personally I'd take the fae over the boots but that's me ;D

I too paid a lot for my Mystic Soles but I have no complaints about them.  The workmanship is excellent and they could not be any more comfortable and I march in parade each day at Scarby.

I have boots from Catskill and Sodhoppers.  Enjoy them all.  Very comfortable and they last.

Those look just like some Sodhoppers that one of my Sci-Fi friends wears with her Leela costume.

On a possibly discordant side note, why oh why do folks wear their faire garb to Highland games?  ???
