I have asked this before but it got buried. I'm a theatrical seamstress so I have most of kit set for traveling. Would it be appreciated by our fellows if I brought my machine and kit. I can't do rebuilds, or constructions, but I could do "Oh crud I lost a buttons" or "Ack! my hem/trim/strap is loose!" or "Oh crud the elastic broke!" situations. Would this be appreciated?
I need to know by tonight so I can pack accordingly. ;D
I'm not attending Scarby but my opinion would be bring it. I would have loved to have someone around to fix small items like that. I could think of one instance every weekend that someone was asking me for safety pins to reattached little things.
I would think it would be a very welcome thing if one had a problem with costume to know there were someone available to make repair. IMHO
That sounds like a great idea!
Last season, I suggested to the Royal Guard that we have some sort of garb repair kit in our tent. I think we got some stuff together, but it was much more of a "do-it-yourself-if-you-know-how" thing. It would be nice to know there's someone capable to fix things.
That is a very generous offer and I'm sure that if you brought it you would have plenty of customers.
When I go to the theater I have all my stuff neatly packed into my shoulder tacklebox/sewing room in a box thing. It rides on the top of the rolling sewing machine case. To be honest it works better than some rolling suit cases. ;D
heh put out a tip/ love offering mug.
So many times I'm going to TRF and I'm being asked "Hey my button came loose, or this is too small can you move the snap?" If it is happening in my camp I know it is happening in others.
A couple weeks ago I was joking I needed to turn my Lady Stitch coat I'm plotting into a wearable sewing room, but I'm thinking it will be a practical one. The bandarerr of threads the pockets with various things to fix stuff. Needles, saftey pins, and buttons sewn on everywhere. It might acutally be useful now. LOL "Lady Stitch the little sewing fairy. Pay her with shiney bables, or coins. Though she rarely will turn away a good necter either." ;D
Seriously, I'll pack what I can in the kit tonight and have it handy should any one need it.
This is very generous Lady Stitch!
Be sure to let us know your room number lol, for the just in case happening!
My husband and I always have our "Emergency Kit" with us in the Keep at faire. Should you need anything ranging from a safety pin or needle and thread to a replacement lacing, we probably have it. We try to keep the kit fully stocked, including things like moleskin, single-use eyedrops, disposable emery boards, and so on. We also have basic medications, but if you're going to need those, you're probably better off hitting the handsome men at First Aid up for them.
So visitors, just snag me if you need something like that and I'll grab the kit and bring it out of the Keep. Scarby regulars, grab me any time you see me in the lanes if you are in need as well.
