Title: Pix of finished Simplicity 3782?
Post by: gem on May 01, 2010, 06:51:41 PM
A couple of people have mentioned making one or more variations of this gown in a couple different threads, but I haven't found a lot of finished pictures on the boards. I'd love to see any that people have (particularly of View A, the low-necked bodice w/shoulder rolls)!

I've been trolling the web for pictures, and they're mostly *awful,* so I'm kind of afraid of this pattern! I was hoping that the RF.com boardies would have better results (as in, not making the thing out of floral "apolostry" [sic] tapestry and wearing it with modern undergarments). I had great results with the Simplicity corset pattern, but I don't want to invest time in this if it's not going to come out as well.  (It's closer in shape to something I'm eyeing than Margo's 'bethan pattern, which is why I'm considering it.) I found one dress diary by a costumer who seemed to know what she was doing, H/A-wise, but she never finished it!

Pix to share? (Links to where you shared before would be just fine, too!)

Gramercy!!

Here's the pattern I mean: http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/3782/3782.jpg

I started it but I didn't like the way it was turning out so I abandoned it. I was making the top left version.  I ended up tossing what little I had done away but was thinking of trying it again however my persona is not really that if nobility and I think that is where my frustration was.

I made View A with adjustments--no attached sleeves or tabs at the waist.  I liked the pattern and if I need to do a quick gown in the future, I'll definitely use it again.

All Simplicity patterns are 99 cents @ Hobby Lobby right now.  YAY!  :)  I bought this pattern as one of the 10 I was allowed to buy at this price ;) and will be trying it shortly...;)

Done with major tweeks to the pattern.

~Seperated the doublet and skirt
~Added picadils to the doublet
~Made the sleeves detachable
~Made a spilt over skit

Used the doublet pattern only for this

This is one of the patterns I bought at HobbyLobby for 99 cents.  I have not even opened the envelope yet.

Gem, I made the maroon version of this one... attached sleeves.  Here is the pic:  I thought the pattern was fairly simple, and I would definitely make it again.

Thanks, everyone!!  You guys DEFINITELY look better than some of the stuff I was finding online!

I think Museum Replicas has coopted this pattern for one of their newer costumes:

It has the same unique combination of trim placement + shoulder rolls + square tabs at the waist.  (You guys all look better than she does, too.  ;D)

I did a custom gown from this pattern.  It was ok, but I didn't like the grommets I used.  To be honest if I do it again, unless it is a customer's request, I'll jsut use my Jean Hunnicut pattern.
