I just finished this one in time for Scarby second weekend. Though, like I said in Finished Projects thread, I reworked the bodice a bit. I love this dress and plan to make another as soon as I can afford the fabric!

from Photography on the Run. You can kinda see how I switched the straps from attaching on the front to the top of the shoulder. Well, you can at least see that it's not attached in the front, lol.
I made the French hood, too, but I need to attach ribbon to it, because my hair is so fine, nothing likes to stay on my head...
I love showing this gown off. My favorite thing I've ever made so far!
Did you make any foresleeves? I don't see any in the photo.
One reason I went with the Tudor Tailor pattern is the foresleeves in this pattern had no definable wrist ending and were attached to a fake chemise sleeve.
Did you use all that yardage of Fabric it required? It seemed like an insane amount.
it's a really simple but better than average pattern.

I have this pattern. Could you make the bodice and skirt separate without too much trouble? or would that throw the pattern/dressmaking off?
You could, but the attached skirts make the front point lay much better. In a seperate bodice the point would tend to curl up unless you boned it heavily.

I know zippety-doo-dah about this era of clothes. I do appreciate that Simplicity put out a pattern that is relatively correct. ( please don't beat me with a wet snood for saying that)

I haven't yet. I plan to, but haven't found any fabric I really like for them yet.

I made them seperate. But then, I also boned it quite a bit. But I'm planning on making a sleeveless bodice to go with it for the really hot days, so I didn't want to attach them.

Actually, except for the foresleeves, this one tracks pretty close to the Tudor Tailor pattern
And yes, both of them call for insane amounts of fabric which you could cut down by a 1/3 on the skirt portion and have a beautiful dress.
I'm still trying to figure out how to regularly manage the turnbacks since it ended up being about 1 1/2 yards of fabric for each outer sleeve.

I started to make a gown based on Simplicity 3782A when this pattern came out, so I based my sleeves off of this pattern (rather than trying to draft them entirely myself, which is what I was going to do). This is the finished product:

All of the pieces are separate - the sleeves tie to the shoulders (which unfortunately weigh the shoulders so much that they fall off - I need to figure out how to fix that, still), and the two skirts are separate from the bodice (they are both full skirts, shown here over my farthingale and petticoat).
That is a breath taking gown! Im hoping to start a similar style pattern once I get the hang of sewing im still doing skirts and about to attempt a chemise if my mothers ole faithful kenmore can hold up to the task thanks for sharing the pics im getting wonderful ideas for something nice when KCRF starts up in the fall.
Thanks! Just to warn you, though, it's completely impractical for faire. The skirt length sweeps along the ground, and the fabrics probably are not washable (I haven't tried). It's also really hot - especially with the sleeves. And it's over $200 worth of fabric (even after using coupons). It has definitely taught me a lesson for my next faire gown attempt!
Good point there on the heat! Oklahoma spring can be unpredictable sometimes! Im doing good to stay cool in my current outfit and with a three year old running about...expensive fabric doesnt stand a chance against a toddler tornado. :D
For the life of me I cannot remember if I purchased that pattern (apparently I have "too many patterns" lol. But I'm definitely liking the way it came out. I don't know something about the finished product on the pattern cover didn't appeal to me, but to see it made on you ladies, is awesome

First, of course, the model is
soo slender, and the trim overwhelmingly heavy-looking. Now that I think about it...
The twist-cord girdle is very distracting - I can't look at that photo without thinking of the Carol Burnett take-off of Gone With The Wind, when she came down the staircase wearing the curtain rod as part of the dress!!

When I look at patterns (for anything, not just for garb) mentally I strip off all the crap and picture it in a plain fabric. That way I can judge the lines better and 'see' it more clearly. That's usually when I decide to buy or not.
